yeah... I should keep them in a little cage where they get no exercise and have no room to run or breath fresh air or have the sun shine on them... keeping them indoors is stupid! They are wild animals that belong outside.
@kickwiz Domestic rabbits are not a wild animal. I seriously hope you at least have them fenced in so they aren't annoying the neighbors, tunneling underground, or wreaking havoc on the local ecosystem and neighborhood. There is also the risk of the rabbit picking up parasites, and getting eaten by a predator, which is not humane. If you want them to have some freedom from the cage, why not set up a grazing pen fr them in the yard, where they are protected? I do that with mine.
you can also keep them in large cages too. Believe it or not, domestic meat rabbits are bred to very meaty, and they can get plenty of exercise in a decent sized cage. the cage size has to be adjusted according to the breed, ad how many litters your does have though. I raise rabbits for show and meat, and my cages may seem small to some,
@kickwiz continued. I can control how many they have, and put them outside in a tractor pen during the day. I would love to have a fenced yard to let them roam in during the day, but we don't have one, and we have a hawk that would kill them.
the yard is secure and our fence is made of concrete... they can't get out unless they dig under the wall but even for them is a lot. right now because it is 112-117 in AZ they are inside in a coop n hutch thing and they just look miserable... but thanks for your input I don't raise them for meat now after this experience that idea has left (but in a worse case scenario I know how to do it!) they are our pets now and a safe haven. :)
I liked this. Great pics, great song to go along with it. That rabbit had a happier life than any of the chickens or cows butchered for commercial profit.
I never got into raising and breeding rabbits for meat.... we lived in an apartment at the time of this video. Now I do raise and breed rabbits (they roam freely in my yard) and I sell them. If there is ever an emergency I know that my family will forever have meat and I know that I can do it.
Good that you learned to butcher. Not cool they are roaming free in your yard though.

@kickwiz You can try running a soak-er hose over the coop if that helps. As long as it doesn't have any leaks,or they get wet.

You might want to make an area outside for future killing, skinning, etc...
