  • monzon was a wife beater and a murderer!

  • Aguante el fernet

  • Monzon not only had a great chin but also excellent powers of recuperation

  • @53redcobra , No doubt about it. But not only did Hagler have the same abilities but also speed....

  • Monzon was the greatest middleweight champion..he would have defeated Hagler on points.

  • hagler fought briscoe when he was old.

  • Hagler, Hopkins and last but not least , James Toney would have given Monzón a lot of problems. These boxers, I mentioned before, were or are still "old school" ( Hopkins is still around). Monzón would have KO'd Taylor, Pavlik and Froch.

  • @raulcitraro , Hagler would have KO'd Monzón. His style was similar to Briscoe but more destructive and accurate.

  • @raulcitraro nobody is KOing Carlos Monzon... Monzon/Hagler is a pick 'em all the way

  • @Wamz1978 , Yeah, you are right!, either one could have decisioned the other.

  • @raulcitraro monzon was only knocked down once in 93 fights and was undefeated for 13 years.he would have probaly beaten hagler.no way hagler knocks this guy out.

  • @404boxing , Let me rephrase that. Hagler would have decisioned Monzón. But Monzón would have KO'd Hearns.

  • @raulcitraro

you say that like briscoe gave monzon trouble

monzon landed 4-5 jabs for every punch bennie landed. if hagler fights like that monzon chews him up and spits him out, and wins a WIDE unanimous decision.

  • @thievinbrudda , Hagler, Leonard and Hearns would have decisioned Monzón in a 12-round fight. Now, in a 15-round fight,I believe Monzón would have KO'd Hearns but Hagler would have KO'd Monzón and the Sugar man would have decisioned him. This is just hypothetically speaking.....

  • @raulcitraro Monzon would have been too strong for Leonard and Hearns. Monzon had the strength of a light heavyweight. Would have thrown them all over the ring

  • @Luke7304,Let me rephrase my previous comment. Marvin Hagler would have decisioned Monzón in either 12 or 15 ,Sugar Ray Leonard would have done the same and Monzón would have KO'D Hearns within 15 rounds. But saying that Monzón would have thrown them all out is a huge stretch. Monzón was good but against top level opposition, like Rodrigo Valdez, he had problems.Hagler was a level up Valdez.

  • @Luke7304 , Yeah!, he could have had the strength of a light-heavy, but in boxing, you have to land punches and against the Sugar Man was difficult. I am basing my criteria on the fight of Hagler against Leonard. Hagler was the bigger man but could not find Leonard, while him (Leonard) was landing not precisely "pot punches". Watch the fight again.

  • @raulcitraro

oh right , so roberto duran goes 15 rounds with hagler but monzon doesnt?

    what a joke

  • @thievinbrudda , Styles makes fight. Roberto Durán was KO'd by Hearns and Hagler KO'd Hearns, but Marvin Hagler could not put Durán out in a close fight. In boxing, if A beats B and B beats C, it does not necessarily means that A beats C. Take for example Ali, Frazier, Foreman. Ali KO'd Foreman, Foreman KO'd Frazier and last but not least Frazier beat Ali the first fight,Ali won the second, and ...

  • last but not least, The Thrilla in Manila was the third and final famous boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier for the Heavyweight Boxing... could have gone either way before Eddie Futch, Frazier 's trainer, stopped it . Afterwards, Ali said that his body ached so much he could not breath and that Frazier (my respects for this great boxer) had taken him to hell. Styles make fights and we are hypothetically speaking. Remember, boxing is the theater of the unexpected.

  • @raulcitraro

    i know that

but facts are facts, valdez was the biggest puncher in the 70's middleweights beside eugene hart

if he cant KO monzon in 30 rounds of fighting, hagler isnt going to do it.

also , if hagler had such trouble figuring out duran, then monzon is going to give him a headache.

hagler will have trouble taking monzon at long range , thats monzons bread and butter.

but he cant go inside either, valdez said being clinched by monzon was like being in a vice grip

  • @thievinbrudda so i really dont see hagler getting work done in the clinches.

it will be a hard fight but monzon wins it , 2-3 points imo.

  • @thievinbrudda , "but facts are facts, Valdez was the biggest puncher in the 70's middleweights beside Eugene Hart"...what about Monzón?,he was a bigger puncher as well; ask Nino Benvenutti. I don't know ,bro. Hagler was a great boxer-puncher,his skills were just surpassed by Leonard. Every now and then I see some of his fights and there was one against a Venezuelan boxer named Fulgencio Obelmejías.......

  • @raulcitraro

nah monzon didnt hit harder than valdez , monzon was landing punches on briscoe all night and didnt drop him.

valdez ko'd him in 7 rounds

    valdez hit harder for sure.

  • (Cont.)...He really dissected this guy. Figuring out Duran was difficult, however, Hearns KO'd him ,I believe ,in two. And then there is the Mugabi fight. After Hagler annihilated him, he (Mugabi) was never the same.

  • @thievinbrudda ,Hagler was way better than Briscoe.

  • MONZON over hagler, all day, every day. No doubt about it. ARGENTINA CAMPEON LOCO!!! Hagler would've attempted the inside game on Monzon. Escopeta cuts Marvelous, blood trickles into Hagler's eye, Monzon goes for the kill. Fight gets stopped in the 13th. The Argentinen continues his reign as he conquers Hagler. Like I said, no doubt about it. Hagler's aggressiveness would've been an easy target for Monzon's counter game, which would've picked Hagler apart. Hagler custom made for Monzon!

  • There is no possible way Monzon beats Hagler or Robinson, or even go the distance for that matter. He is way too slow for either of those men. Monzon does work behind a decent jab, but his overall skills are overrated, just my opinion.

  • @mdmcdd1117 OMG!!!!!!! I just got finished debating a guy who said Monzon would beat Hagler!!! You are correct! Monzon was made for hagler! people who pick Monzon over Hagler know nothing about Hagler nor boxing! HAGLER KOS MONZON IN 5! THANK YOU FOR HAVING SOME FREAKIN SENSE.

  • Que aburrido es ver a un peleador sin recursos, sin tecnica, sin nada...Fue grande, porque? por que tenia una gran pegada, que asombroso de verdad D:!

  • There is a big, big difference between being knocked down, and knocked out, or stopped - and Carlos wasnt even knocked down, he was hurt and staggered though yes.

  • Overall, though, Monzon beat that ass. BEAT that ass.

  • What a cool calm champion Monzon was. Monzon nearly gets his head blasted off from a vicious right and what does he do? He very calmly checks out the clock to see how much time is left in the round.

  • 2:57 could have changed history. The announcer said Briscoe was a good finisher, but that was Briscoe's failure, he did not follow it up when he clearly had him hurt. Briscoe was a great tough Philly fighter. Too bad.

If Robinson was in that position, he would have been put Monzon to sleep in no time.

  • "had he been able to finish him..." well... duh!

  • Thank you!
