@pussycatbeatbox Tough question. As a must listen to list, I would say Brad Meldhau (Highway Rider), Yaron Herman Trio (Follow the White Rabbit), Aaron Parks (Invisible Cinema), Frank Woeste Trio (Double You), Avisha Cohen (Gently Disturbed, Colors,Seven Seas). E.S.T disbanded due to the loss on Esbjorn Svensson but Magnus Östrom released an album of his quartet this year and Dan Berglund released two with his trio. Those three albums kept the soul of E.S.T, you may like those as well. Enjoy !
@pussycatbeatbox I love this group also So sad that Esbjorn has passed away so young, I'd recommend Pat Metheny, Brad Meldahu (spelling on his name) Giovanni Solima
E.S.T. was the band who opened my ears to the wonderful world of jazz music. Now several years later I realize that they were on the cutting edge of It.
I don't know . I've heard this for the first time a couple days ago , but I feel like I knew it all the time , was it in any movie soundtrack or something?
it's the first time i see e. svensson with long hair. i was very lucky to have seen them live once in 2004. he will be greatly missed!!!!!!!!!!! that was the best new jazz around.
This is so BEautifull and caotic at the same time.. it remenbers my inside...I just like this...I love the way this music take me to another reality...Really amazing song....
Loved everything I've heard of EST so far (not much). But this is the best so far - the first half is so raw and powerful, and the solo piano sequence moved me to almost tears. Absolutely sublime, embodies everything I love about jazz. This track has finally convinced me that I _need_ to buy EST's albums. Bravo.
Hey can you recomend an album of theres to get? iv wanted t buy one for a while but iv only seen them goin for about 30 quid so if im goona pay such a high price id like t get a good one
Join Rhapsody music service and listen to a bunch of their stuff. That's how I got turned on to them, and today I learned Esborn died in a scuba accident, truly sad.
On June 14, 2008, Svensson went missing during a scuba diving session on Ingarö outside of Stockholm, Sweden. His diving companions eventually found him lying unconscious on the seabed. Having sustained serious injuries, he was rushed to Karolinska University Hospital by helicopter, but his life could not be saved. He was 44 years old, married and the father of two sons.
Though I don't believe in regrets and the futile "if only's", I do dearly regret not going to see EST when they came last to London...thinking there would be another chance... their powerful music will always remind me to live in the moment...
I first heard E S T in 2004 & saw them @ London Jazz Festival in Nov 2006,i am so glad i came across there music ! i am so sad his gone he was just BRILLIANT ( R I P Esbjorn ) :(
When i was younger and only just getting into jazz, i didn't really get this music. It was too modern for my undeveloped years, and i developed a bias against it from then, even as I got into plenty of other very individual and modern stuff. These last couple of days, I've been listening to EST, after i saw this masquerade on here and was amazed. Now i hear him, and i feel incredibly gutted, and incredibly sad. RIP Esjbörn
I Didn't know about Svennson's death. Saw them live at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester a few years ago (they played with Bugge Wesseltoft) and they were fantastic. Very talented guy and part of a great trio. RIP Esbjorn Svensson.
May peace be with you and the one's that were left behind - no word can describe the pain and tragedy.... You and your music will forever stay with me as an influence for life...
Omg Esbjörn's hair... I don't think I've ever seen him anything else but bald ;)
Anyway, truly one of the best jazz bands out there... Been to a concert in Germany 2006, so awesome!! Love the mixture of groovy elements and a beautiful melody. Anyone who hasn't been to a concert yet: Go and see them live!!!
Sounds like Keith Jarret, and I mean the pianist solo sounds like a Twin of Keith Jarret. I have never heard a pianist sounding so close to the Keith Jarret sound. I would add this. What Keith Jarred does in solo concerts here they evoke on this types of themes as a Trio. I love their playing its my cup of tea.
