  • Worked there years ago with Lane Sutherland,,,Big Bear Audio, now Sutherland Sight and Sound just down the street from this studio. Never forget the first time I walked in the men's room and saw all the autographs on the wall of all the folks who recorded here. What a piece of history. Told Lane he should have taken the paneling out of the john to new location when he moved. What a piece of history this place is.

  • actually, the first freebird was written in 1969, and recorded in 1970 at Quinvy studios in Sheffield, and then in 1971 they hired Billy Powell to the band, and recorded the first piano version at Muscle Shoals Sound.

  • Part II: At Fillmore East, which followed Idlewild, was, of course, recorded at that famed rock venue in New York's East Village with a mobile recording truck. They disbanded in acrimony following Win, Lose or Draw, in 1975, and when they reunited for Enlightened Rogues in 1979, they returned to Criteria to, again, record with Dowd. Capricorn Records collapsed that same year along with "Southern Rock's" hay days and this creamy MCI board fell silent. A lot of history was recorded on it, though.

  • One of the tourists makes an erroneous commment. The Allman Brothers entire discography was not recorded on this board. At best, two albums may have been recorded with it: Brothers and Sisters and Win, Lose or Draw; plus Gregg Allman's first solo album: Laid Back, and Dickey Betts's, Highway Call. The band's first album, the eponymous Allman Brothers Band, was recorded at Atlantic Records in Manhattan; Idlewild South was recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami, with Tom Dowd, as was Eat A Peach.
