  • Is it just me or in this picture Suppé looks like Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows movie.

  • Regarding song v. piece...fair enough. But then what do you do with Holst's Song without Words? Perhaps a little tweeque there?

  • LOVE this

and im 13 so you know we are not some rap obsessed monsters.

  • This has to be absoltely one of the most beautiful pieces von Suppe ever penned. It is also a brillliant preformance.

  • BRAVISIMO ONCORE!!!! I have not heard this piece in a long time!!!!!!!! :-D

  • 4:37 - 4:49

  • I was driving the dogs home from the park and this came on Classic FM. I haven't listened to it for years. Now I'm hooked. Fabulous. Thanks Franz. :)

  • Marvelous!

  • It's quite amazing how a bunch of notes played on a bunch of instruments can give you such a feeling of being so alive and fulfilled.

  • That cello solo... ohhman,

  • nun wer is deutsch

  • This was the theme song on two Popeye episodes: "The Spinach Overture" (1935), and "Tots of Fun" (1952).

  • This is the music for a comedy chase scene in this years panto I am doing. There's demons, goblins, rabbits, dames and humans in this scene. There's waltzs, cancans and anything you can think of... It's amazing

  • The cello solo is the same music they play when you arrive in heaven.

  • A baboon beating up Stimpy.

  • @OddishThing18 There's no dog...but there's a babooooon !

  • This is the song that the carousel in Roller Coaster Tycoon plays.

  • 1974 Phantom regiment!

  • Oh Memories, Ren and Stimpy. Good times

    This is Awesome!

  • getting blow to yhis... nerds

  • love this overture.... been playing it since I was a kid in a portagee marching band. Thanks for posting it.

  • em português: "Poeta e o camponês"

  • en español: "Poeta y aldeano"

  • maravilhoso

    perfeito

  • 3:32 epic part

  • The cello solo is one of the selections they play when you go to heaven.

  • we played this at music camp, in 2010. not a symphony orchestra, just a string orchestra. it was so awesome - one of the best concert's I've ever played in..the songs are still stuck in my head...

  • Franz von Suppe is a great composer!

  • Incantato, estasiato ringrazio! :)

  • Gran Hobra Classica "Poeta y Campecino" Del Austriaco Franz Von Suppé.

  • I've been working on the railroad

  • Whats the other song that the merry go round plays called?

  • @braders790

Fairground Organ #1: Die Regimentskinder Marsch (Children of the Regiment March) [Julius Fucik]

  • 3:36--aha! Here comes the part I've always heard in cartoons!

  • 3:33 --> AMAZING REN AND STIMPY MAD BABOON THEME STARTS. Gets me everytime lol

  • This is really underrated.

  • This is also in Hou Hsiao-hsien's A Summer at Grandpa's!

  • Music to have an epic bowel movement to...

  • My favorite part is the part that starts at 0:00.

  • When I was younger, this music used to be everywhere, like the William Tell Overture: the cartoons, TV shows, etc. I don't hear it as much anymore.

  • 0:59-2:05 Full epicness

  • I've been working on the railroad....

  • @Gr0mmet

exactly what my orchestra teacher said when we played this piece....

  • This is the theme music for Popeye's "Tots of Fun" (1952), that his four nephews practice while trying to build Popeye's Dream House.

  • Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo Cavaliere Suppé Demelli...bahahaha

    thats 50 letters.

  • I could listen to this piece all day :) ahhh

  • Somehow this reminds me of a bad storm and then the weather clears up.

  • A primeira vez que ouvi trecho desta música foi em desenho animado...

  • Merrie Melodies served this up with relish in "The Major Lied 'til Dawn" when the title character gets rowdy with some animals. Elsewhere, Popeye has also done his stuff to the beat of this tune. Hard to make a list of where this piece of classical music has been featured in cartoon-land. I still like it.

  • Bugs Bunny fucks everyone with this simphony!.. :D

  • This was my grandfathers fav. song... R I P opa

  • @ronofontario Not "song" angel. Songs are for voices, pieces are for instruments. I know iTunes tells you otherwise, but they're wrong. Your grandfather had good taste. :)

  • @jd7x7jd You know your right... I'll correct myself in saying " this was my grandfathers fav. overture"

  • @ronofontario this nearly made me cry. RIP

  • @ronofontario Your grandfather heard this played at the gates of Heaven.

  • @edcircusitch Thx. that meant alot.... cheers

  • Rocko's Modern Life.

  • @elbuenbeto666 ED IS DEAD!!!!

  • @elbuenbeto666 and Ren & Stimpy

  • @elbuenbeto666 It was also used in a lot of early 'Popeye' cartoons.

  • @elbuenbeto666 You have tarnished my listening experience with your ill-placed remark. I came here to appreciate the beauty of this piece, yet here I find your nocuous comment distracting from the godlike gloriousness of Franz von Suppé's masterpiece. Shame on you.

    lol jk XD

  • @borgoat21 Shame on yourself.

You are way to full of yourself, chill out and enjoy the music.

  • I'm related to him!

  • 4 people here are stupid

  • This music remember me my grandfather..He always played it... "Ciao nonno, mi manchi tanto.."

  • So..is it weird that I started conducting randomly? loljk I really like this piece :)

  • we're playing this in my concert band and it's kind of hard... we don't usually do much classical stuff.

  • @Neptunequeen42 lol noob, this is so simple.

  • @BRp4e I can find more simple than this ;

    4 people don't like.

Anyway as a fan of Roller Coaster I love this piece

  • Very difficult piece to play.

  • 4:10 spunkyyyyyyyy nooooooooo!!!

  • This piece reminds me of a medieval fair. :D

  • I think von Suppe has been to a wide extent underrated. I find this piece so much nicer than the "Light cavalery Overture". Don't get me wrong they are both nice but between the two this is my favorite.

  • I remember my uncle introduced the violin to me but I didn't appreciate this kind of music before. But now, I have no regrets, I love this kind of music and I love my violin.

  • Sometimes I wish I was born in 19th century Europe so I could have been part of the musical scene as it was developing then... there is a lot of potential for music today, but it seems all the potential talent and technology is being wasted by the demands of the mediocre and underachieving mainstream media.

    Elitist? maybe... but true.

  • @246trinitrotoluene Well said!

  • I like the way that theres only over 100.000 views in this and compare it to Justin Biber his videos has over 20 million views when this is a million times better.

  • we are going to play this piece yhis semester, it is really a beautiful song!

i am the cello solo and it is really difficult to play it well and smooth, but i'll try my best:)

  • @loxa950521

good luck. I'm starting on early march

  • @IGITnBLACK

    u too^^

  • @loxa950521

Well I'm performing this song tomorrow along with Wed, Thur then Sun

  • i am a freshman in high school and we are playing this piece. it is hard but so beautiful and fun. i am a clairnet so i have a lot of the runs and things. :)

  • classical music nowadays doesn't have any thought put into it, whereas in the 1800's it really meant something

  • @braders790

Modern "Classical" music does have thought; it's just different. We can't play Bach, Chopin, and Tchaikovski forever. They didn't get where they were without musical experimentation. :|

  • switched the key sig to d flat major, due to lack of strings.

  • They dont make music like this today- excellent rendition

  • I've been working on the railroad... =P

  • Absolutely Beatiful cello solo.

  • @TheVideoReviewer123 wonderful piece of music

  • I Came

  • oh my fucking great master chuck norris

  • WOW! My orchestra is playing this and the arrangement we have cut out the cello solo.

  • @AccountHacker17 and I play first cello.

  • Ever since I heard this song a week or so ago I've thought it was one of the most genius pieces of music ever created! INCREDIBLE!!!

  • 1:00 IIIIIIIII've been woooorkin on the raaaaaaaaailrooooooad...

  • @noahsark769 Mind. Blown.

  • I had my first record player as a Christmas present in 1958 and one of the first discs I bought included this wonderful overture. I played the disc until it wore out and my parents were driven mad as I conducted it as though I was in front of a symphony orchestra.

    Oh what happy memories!!

  • running baboon from ren and stimpy.. yeah i said it

  • The orchestra and I are gonna play the overture pretty soon in March! I love it.

  • @IGITnBLACK sounds fun :-)

Its a beautiful piece of music, one of my favourites

  • Of course, we ALL know that 99 44/100% of the folks out there consider the RAV E-FAVE bit to start at 3:38 or so...with the REALLY BIG BIT at 4:38 onward to 5:10 or so as the ALL-TIME UBER-MEGA-ULTRA RAVE-FAVE!!

At least it is for me, m8..

    Thanx fer this...

  • Wunderschöne Ouverture

  • I love this music because my daddies are Gods and Poets.....and in this universe both; I do not believe in death row I hate it! It makes no sense. We did not come into life to be subjected to doing murderers time in prisons and go to jail for everybody, if you don't feel like you are above the law and want to pay penance then what an experience important enough to get in volved in personally due to iniquities that precide, otherwise if it's your own nihilism you are fighting to keep then begat

  • Parts of this work make me think of cartoons involving construction, and other parts make me think of long black rubber gloves, cavity searches and big stainless steel colanders.... and full body scans...

  • @dieselheart001 wtf is wrong with you?

  • @400racr It's good music to work to. WTF is wrong with you?

  • this is in ROLLER COASTER TYCOON 1&2 when you build a "merry-go-round"

  • @braders790 lol! RCT brought me here too! :D I LOVE that game!

  • @braders790 lol

  • I played this!!!! In the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony!!!! Good job Carter!!!!

  • suppe was a relative of italian composer donizetti distant cousin suppe full name was wait for it take a deep breathe (francesco ezechiele ermenegildo cavaliere suppe demelli) he was austrian or croatian i think

  • @whatsgoingonthen that's a mouthful...

  • As a foodie, I'd like to know what kind of 'Suppe' ole Franz liked best....Erbsen, Rindfleisch, Gulasch, Leberknoedelsuppe, oder etwas anderes...es wuerde mich wirklich interessieren...wirklich...

  • @johnhofi I bet he'd probably go for a nice chilled gazpacho, with a dollop of sour cream, lol... or perhaps vichyssoise...

Leberknoedelsuppe? to steal Rachel Ray's wonderfully descriptive exclamation:

    Yum- o!!!

  • Beautiful! The end makes u wanna get up and dance and jump around or take a run around the block. WOW

  • @landruatfestival This makes taking my Metamucil and prune juice a manly adventure!! Bully!!

  • is it just me or are the flutes etc. not playing loads of their pieces? I've played this and I hear only half :S

  • I'm playing this in orchestra now...KILLER violin part :D

  • If you died and went to heaven the sound you'd hear would be the cello solo.

  • I've heard this in Roller Coaster Tycoon!

  • @isa123que ROFL XD

  • @isa123que

    lol me too

  • We played this in high school, too, but it was in the mid-1970's.

  • Check out Mickey Mouse's 1930 Barnyard Concert on youtube.

  • this reminds me the rocks modrn life episode when ed bighead was killed by his wife

  • Put your hand up if you like the part that starts at 0:00.

  • This is one of the "great" overtures of it's era. The opera didn't really survive, but the overture did (a great testiment to how well it is written). vonSuppe is not considered one of the best romantic era composers today, in American circles, but the Europeans still love and revere him. Unfortunately, this overture has been really overused in all sorts of "melodramatic" formats such as cartoons, etc. But, that doesn't detract from its place among opera overtures that stood the test of time

  • This song was featured in thje underground movie hit "TraSHy Lesbians of Dixie" staring the late and great Annie Z., a famous porn star.

  • Does anyone else think of a train fight whe this music plays? the part around 3:49? Is it from a movie or something?

  • @Perroramirez Ok, I think the question SHOULD be. Was this piece borrowed to put it into a movie?... and not backwards...

  • @GothicalSOberhauser Well EXCUSE ME, you are right, although it's rather obvious if you see the date, it's not like I didn't know, do not worry... But that doesn't answer my question...

  • @Perroramirez Oh, I'm sorry. Now I'm getting I said stuff in a preposterous way. I owe you an appology.

  • @Perroramirez Maybe Disney or some cartoon

  • @Huneiyue Well, this plays during an episode of Rocko's Modern Life, but I think the train fight per se was "Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat"

  • @Perroramirez I thought on " Hep Cat Symphony" Cartoon too :)

  • @Perroramirez HA! My father used to play this on the piano----my brother and I used to get down on all fours and chase each other around the living room in a frenzy during the section you refer to---- HAHAHA me poor dad trying to concentrate and the rug rats running around screaming lol

  • @ilovebobthecat See? fits perfectly.

  • It is play by Mariachis in Mexico, is fabuluos

  • this is on rollercoaster tycoon xD for the merry-go-round. Love the song

  • I play viola, and my high school orchestra played this. The band accompaniment we had when we played this at a competition was great. A lovely piece, and fun to play.

  • @amabensta JEALOUS!! haha i play the cello and i ALMOST got to play this but we ended up not for lack of a decent brass section :( it's an amazing song

  • I want that trumpet part!

  • Oh, how I love this overture with all kinds of moods in one music piece! Thank you for the upload.

  • This was my grandfathers fav. song R I P
