I remember this day. I was a little boy when this happened. I've been a Braves fan since I could walk. Cabrera's single, Sid Bream running as fast as his slow legs could carry him lol. Braves rushing the field as Bream is called safe...sends chills down my body every time I hear or see this.
One of the greatest calls in sports history. There has never been a better crew than Skip and Pete. Joe Simpson is good, Chip follows in his dad's footsteps well, but no one will beat those two.
And I seriously love the guy, one of my favorite, but John Smoltz should never be within 50 feet of an announcing booth.
While I will forever believe that he was OUT, I will always relax in the end knowing that the Braves fans ended the post season crying in yet ANOTHER LOSS, with TWO MORE WS defeats yet to come. Oh, how I loved your epic fail this season too.
BRAVES, you are the best in WS FAIL history.
Yes you won against the Indians, (I remember praying for a sink hole to swallow the stadium on that one) but does that even count?
@fyadcorp No biggie. I rest easy in the fact that in the last 20 years the Braves have lost more World Series than any other team. Also the city of Pittsburgh has more overall pro championships in that time, Steelers 2 Penguins 2.
@jck148 Typical bandwagon jumper. When your team is shit, flock to other sports. You seriously believe Bream was out? Dumbass. The Pirates haven't gone to the playoffs or even finished above .500 since that 92 season. Come back when they actually do if you happen to live that long.
@FAITHandLOGIC Ever heard the story only recently revealed that Andy van Slyke in center had called over to Bonds to move in a few steps when Cabrera came up, and Bonds ignored him. One of the reasons for van Slyke's nearly catatonic reaction sitting stunned in center field for several minutes after this play--he's realizing that if Bonds had listened to him the game might at least not have ended on that play.
@AslanJudah I was on a pizza delivery for an up-and-coming pizza joint called...Papa John's. Working in Columbus, GA when this happened! Almost lost control of my car!
@jodyfresh528 As of today they are 1st in the NL Central, a great comeback from their weak start to the season, but they're only 7 games over .500 and the Braves are 17 games over .500 :) Braves ftw.
Wow, what a memory!! I lived in Atlanta that year and I was so excited about the championship. Brings a tear to my eye remembering that magical moment when Bream, with his bad knees, pulled it off for us. I even went to one of the World Series games, but nothing was as exciting as sitting in my living room watching this on my non-HD TV. ;)
as a pirate fan watching this at the time, before cabrera got the hit my dad said they'll never send bream on a single, he's got bad knees. i still remind him of that from time to time. that being said, it's still tough to watch.
I don't even remember it and watching it still gives me nightmares. Oh well at least we're almost out of the darkness finally. The Braves had some great teams in the 90's.
Who needs the video...that was the greatest moment to me in Braves history, or at least the most exciting...I woke up the neighbors, damn near had a heart attack, just about pissed my pants...that was awesome!
Then after that it was it for the Pirates. Bonds, Van Slyke, Drabek all left and the rest of the players left too and it has been 18 losing seasons and counting. Until the Pirates spend some money and get some good young players from their farm system they will continue to suck.
I am currently thinking about put another 2 great plays. One of them is going to be Brooks Conrad's Grand Slam and the other is up for you guys to vote on. So comment!
As a Braves fan it is so much FUN to read the whining of the Pirate fans. We have well and truly made you guys our bitch. Of course, the Pirates are everyone's bitch. For the sniveling child that claims Sports Illustrated proved Bream was out, go back and read that edition and read their other article the emphatically claimed he was safe. Doesn't matter 'cause you guys haven't managed to put together a winning season since then. Call me when your diapers are changed.
I am sicken tired of the Pirates losing but I REALLY HATE THE BRAVES... and by the way BREAM WAS OUT AT HOME...(Sports Illustrated showed it spanky tagged Bream before he touched home
Fuck Barry Bonds for not being able to throw out and old, crippled bastard like Bream. Had that throw been at the plate he'd be out by a mile.
This play broke my heart and I haven't cared about baseball since... and I grew up playing the sport. Fuck the Pirates for not being able to do jack squat since.
BUST OUT THE O2 FOR SID. THE GEATEST SLIDE AT HOME PLATE I WILL EVER SEE HANDS DOWN. THE CATCH AND THE SLIDE WERE THE 2 DEFINITIVE MOMENTS IN BRAVES HISTORY THAT SHOWED THE BRAVOS WERE FOR REAL AND WERE GOING TO BE AND STILL ARE HERE TODAY. SID AND OTIS ARE THE KINGS OF THE BRAVES. HANK AARON WILL BE THE LEADER OF THIS PACK THO.
BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN.....BRAVES WIN...one of the most memorable moments of my life....along with the the centerfield robbery otis nixon commited on andy van slyke.....gooooooood shit
Worst day of my f*cking life! Not to mention the crippled turn coat SOB was out at the plate! My Buccos have never been worth a sh*t since. Why is God's name Jim Leylend wouldn't bring Wakefield in to pitch to Cabrerra for that last out was always beyond me. No one on the Braves had hit Wakefield worth a sh*t the whole series. Lost a lot of repect for Leyland as a coach that night. Yea, almost 20 years later, and you're damn right I'm still bitter!!!!! Scumbag Braves!
@gijohn1969 Yeah I can sympathize. My Red Sox lost in similar fashion in 1986. But Bream was safe at the plate. And bringing in Wakefield would not have made a lot of sense. I mean, he had pitched a complete game the night before, and I can recall another famous Game 7 walk-off hit that Wakefield allowed.
If you're going to blame anyone, blame Pirates' ownership for letting Bonds and Drabek leave and being for incompetent cheapskates the last 18 years.
No need in speaking of Bream that way....he's a very respectable person. And Leyland is one of the best managers in baseball (still 20 years later) Maybe you should try fishing or golf or wood-working, something to take your mind off that glorious Oct. night. If not, I only have six words for you, "Braves win, Braves win, Braves win!!!"
@gijohn1969 did u just say he was OUT at the plate? oh my god, you are a moron. he was safe by a ile and i've never heard of ANY pirates fans complaining about that! get a life!
@bravesfanification I am with you on that one, especially losing to the fucking Yankees! We fucking embarased ourself in 99. We just bent over and NY had their way with us. My ass still hurts 10 years later!
@gijohn1969 Bream was safe..that catcher never tagged him..lol. Wakefield just pitch in game 6 and was saved for Game 1 of the world series...but stan balinder was the closer ..
