Matthias I owe you an apology. I made a negative comment on your 'box' construction video. I said that you could have made a guitar in the same amount of time. After viewing many of your videos, I agree with you on everything except your views on avgas. Our atmosphere contains 4.2 billion sq. kilometers. If you ran your plane for roughly 1700 years at 8 hrs. per day, you would fill just one of the sq. kilometers.
In the end you stated you retired but the reality is you became self sufficient. Retired is an industrial era idea implying that a person has become worn out and can no longer continue to do work. The true goal of life is to do something you love and make a living out of it while staying out of debt.
Matthias, I have recently been looking into Aquaponics, and I randomly thought, that since you make a living through your woodworking, it would be interesting to see how self sufficient you could get. Apparently it take's about 25 mins a day of maintainance/farming to actually feed yourself once it gets going. I just thought that if anyone can do a good job of it, it's you!
You're an amazing man Matthias! Nice to see that recognized. I see a weekly Matthias show on CTV in your future...haha. Wouldn't hurt the 'retirement' fund and would fit right in with what you're doing now. You have a down to earth way of showing some amazing things to the world. We all look forward to your next video release. Thanks for taking the time to share with all of us....
Even if this is a slightly different style than yours, we get to know a little better through this broadcast, so thanks for posting it. You truly are an amazing man with a really happy life.
PS: An acoustic guitar does sound quite nice as a project! I play guitar as well as a little mandolin and banjo and I have to say, if i had the chance to build either one(along with some know-how, I'd jump right on it!
Magnificent :) God for you! I hope some day I am able to do what I like as well! All i have to work with at the moment is my school workshop; I appreciate it but sometimes i wish i could just pack it all up and take it home...
Anyhow, I absolutely love your work and can not wait to see more! Keep it up! I'm sure your father is proud! :)
From down here in OZ. "Well bloody done mate!" Your woodgears site was my first experience of some of your genius. excelente creo que eres un visionario de la carpintería pues aqui en Mexico ya eres muy conocido, solo una pregunta los planos de tus maquinas los le Mac? gracias y felicidades
Thanks Mattias, and thanks CTV! your woodgears.ca website and creations have been a constant source of delight and inspiration to me. hope you are having a great day!
You deserve every bit of attention, coverage, and dollar you gain through your work. You dedication to knowledge, and design, as well as your passion to do what you love, are truly motivational.
Thank you to CTV for letting you put this on YouTube. So many times broadcasters are fiercely possessive of their content, and spend time and money actually trying to prevent people from being able to see it! I am pleased that they are progressive enough to let it reach a broader audience. They should be congratulated both for picking a worthwhile subject, and allowing it to be seen.
Matthias, great show ! ~ I find that I think quite similarly to you, but I didn't have a similar upbringing. Awesome that you had your father, and a wood shop in your childhood.
Beautiful, they did a very nice job showcasing your creations. This has to be the best retirement an engineer can enjoy, making things without anyone to tell you what you can't do. I hope as a young engineering student that I can look forward to a similar progression.
Wow, I don't remember the saw mill, but quite clever. Just be careful the lumber and power tool industries are going to start sending hit men after you. Better start building yourself some bodyguards.
Do space saving contraptions spark any interest with you? I think given all your talents you could make some mind blowing contraptions that would help the average jo utilize and take advantage of cramped quarters. workshops - garages - bedrooms - attics etc. Dual use components, things that fold up and store compactly, reducing wire clutter with proper organization - I think you could make some KILLER hidden compartments for storing jewelry or valuables.
Matthias, you know you've, "made it", when you start to have groupies...LOL
You definitely have a unique way of approaching your ideas and projects and I like your curiosity and especially like that you don't give in to convention. Congratulations on the show and keep up all the amazing works...
Amazing stuff, always inspires me to get back in the shop and create. i have many of your plans and unlike large commercial blueprints-------yours are thought through and correct.
