SFS is far superior than any style especially than MMA. Cos in MMA you fight naked while in SFS fight is with all gear on you including thick clothes, steel boots, etc.such attack in SFS and you will get a nice straight low kick in jaws, knee or uppercut, banishing flat, throat strike, backhead punch, dual handed pushback, overhead hammer crush, throws... Also i can move backwards, forwards or sideways so you will get down on floor. You just skip the part that head is uncovered all the time....
Nice video and very informative. If any keyboard warrior is saying that the multi time MMA champ is doing it wrong, not true. This is mma, keeping your head is your opponents midsection makes you less surseptible to chokes which is common with the classic wrestling double leg with your head on the outside. In mma you have to adapt your techniques to the situation at hand.
To those who doubt Frank Shamrock's takedowns, search youtube for "igor zinoviev vs frank shamrock". He did this exact same takedown -- with devastating results :D Zinoviev isn't exactly an amateur too, especially since he beat some of the best BJJ fighters at the time in EF.
It's a shame Dana White and Frank Shamrock hate each other. Most of Frank Shamrock's fights in the UFC alone back then could've easily made top 20 best MMA fights of all time, but none of them were mentioned in the top 100
My knee will lock and not allow me to drive in with enough power. I will listen to the guy thats been doing it for years and try more duck walks. Maybe thats my problem. I have been slacking on the duck walks.
This is a good technique if you dont have knee problems or flexibility issues. Most of us cant go all the way to the floor like Frank does on his right knee and shoot into that double leg so easy. We have to find a different way cause the knees just dont allow us to move that perfectly. At least this is the problem that I have.
@Bjjscorpion In general, most dudes with f'ed up knees will have a harder time doing anything leg and mobility related, particularly when shooting in, especially if it's f'ed up a lot, (like Ken Shamrock's and Bas Rutten's - the reason why the former should've retired sooner and the latter retired at a perfect time). You can still attempt takedowns though ,and if you can't bend too far down, clinch and hip takedowns would be better, so long as you maintain your base and balance at all times
Im not saying This techniquie is wrong i kinda agree with sco40 Nobody in mma take people down like this. but what do i know man If frank shamrock said its the right way its the right way. But last time i tried it i end up haveing bloody nose
thats not really the modern way to do it. No set up, lead knee his smashing against the ground (on concrete that will destroy your knee), his chin his up and hands are down.
yea, i would rather throw both of the legs one way or the other away from my hips to gain side control, why give him the advantage of any guard...Namsayin
I watch it. It was good throw. But Igor was weak oponent. All Igor effort's was a bad punch where he missed and that's all no block, no counter attack no attempt to do anything. Some people even said that is a set up match. If grab my legs with your both hands means that your head is mine as well as your body cause will get very powerful headshot. Any MMA superstar can be beaten like baby by SFS fighter. However lets stick to MMA Watch Frank Shamrock VS Bas Rutten.
@LORDVADER357 If both your legs are grabbed, you won't have good footing to throw a good punch or elbow. Even the strongest boxers are extremely weak if they don't use their legs. Loads of ways to setup takedowns too, if people just think it's just double leg or single legs TDs. Remember, MMA guys are MARTIAL ARTISTS themselves - that's why it's called mixed martial arts. They know what every other MA guy knows, the difference is they put it to actual practice instead of just making theories
So if you grab my legs like this i cannot have enough power to punch you, throw you, or perform any powerful counter attack? Really? If you try such low grab against well performed strikes there will be no teeth in your mount after. You skip the fact that your hands are busy with my legs and your head is 100% uncovered all the time...You grab my legs i grab your head, knee strike, downstrike kick/punch. See how Bas block all these attacks and how strikes at shamrock
@LORDVADER357 You won't be able to if you don't know how to sprawl properly or time your knees right (assuming they attempt a TD from the front - you can't knee them if they go from the side, from waist, greco clinch or ankle pick). Besides, Frank never really shot for really low double legs during his time in Pancrase (and against Bas), and only did it when he was in UFC. I've yet to see someone KO a guy when their balance and footing are taken away by someone lifting them up from their legs.
Yes. I like some elements from Bas style. Some of moves are very similar to SFS. He beat Frank Shamrock and block almost all his TD attacks. However i guess SFS methods are not allowed in MMA. Especially the counter TD attacks pack because the judge gave red card to Bas. Bas Rutten VS Frank Shamrock and Bas wins. Frank was hitted in the head very hard many times. Particulary in this match his TD defence is is bad on the first part but very good on second.
@LORDVADER357 Frank doesn't shoot this takedown out of nowhere - he did this the moment his opponent throws a punch, studying what Igor Zinoviev did against BJJ fighters and devised this TD precisely for that fight. Notice that in the vid, he shot in for the TD during his opponent's punch? The TD became even more effective since Igor had this habit of making a hop of grabbing his opponent's head and neck to counter takedowns, and it only made things worst for him during their fight
@LORDVADER357 Funny how you mention Bas. I'm a HUGE fan of Bas Rutten and was planning to train in his gym when I move further north in CA, but he's not really well known for his TD defense at all (especially in Pancrase), that's why he learned how to fight from his back and had a personal crash course in submission wrestling in order to nail those leglocks.against people taking him to the ground.
actually Le was the one who just came out of a surgery, not Shamrock. Also Le had said that he would give Shamrock a rematch anywhere, anytime. Fact is, that arm was totally broken and will never be the same again. Le would break his arm again, no doubt.
I think he was just about to explain what precautions to take during his variation of the double but it stopped before he could do it...I hate when this happens cuz now I want to go buy the video! Great way to advertise
u could bust your nose or hurt your neck with this move... i saw him take a guy down and knocked him out from the impact in the ufc, but he used his shoulder not his face.
If you're talking about his fight against Igor Zinoviev, that was a different takedown. Severn used this takedown in one of the early UFCs -- it was one of the best shoot in I've ever seen, but then again, he was a Michigan wrestler, so he knew how to shoot in.
ok, I would like to say something half intelligent here. Anybody notice how different a double leg is in MMA vs. sub-grappling vs. gi grappling? This version is more like a shoulder strike to the ground compared to the other ways.
the 'danger zone' is a technical term in wrestling referring to the space between the feet of one's opponent, See the Randy Couture instructioanl video on takedowns posted on youtube

U only pulling this move off when your opponent is committing to boxing combination. Your opponent is already in motion throwing punches at your face...then u drop down and go for the takedown. Unless u telegraph the takedown...he can't knee u in the face...
Yeah. Good clear instruction. Alot of A-Holes in here who think they'd just kick him in the face or whatever (Tanner78). Not many guys would or could beat Frank Shamrock. For you muppets who don't know him & are posting zero intelligence comments. Google him & see what you get.
good comment frank shamrock is an absoloute legend and for those who ask daft questions just watch his fight vs tito ortiz 1 its a masterclass in how to fight.
Do yourself a favor and grow up. That move is not only useful in MMA, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and wrestling, but likewise in a street situation (if executed correctly).
I love you bitches talkin tough to a motherfuckin screen!!! You think you would talk to a 6'3 270 pound dude that LOVES to scrap? Come to VALLEJO California, Hillside homie. anytime Adam Thompson look it up
One of the first things any boxing trainer or martial arts practitioner will underscore to their students is to never EVER lose your composure to your adversary. It's clear to me that if you pitch a fit on your computer at someone who simply offered a rebuttal to your childish observation about shooting, you'd lose in a practical situation.
Oh, one more thing, Mr. Adam Thompson... Your height and your weight are of little importance in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (unless you're competing in a competition such as NAGA or Pan Am) so I'm unimpressed. Now get your fat ass in a dojo & learn some double leg takedowns (lol). Burger boy.

There's more power and leverage when going lower, but it's risky when missed or countered. Still devastating if timed right.
