the exam is useless dont take this they just want your money studying chinese in this way is not a good one cuaze we people dont speak like that and to me its stupid
I think a Beijinger can understand about 60% of everyday Sichuan dialect if it's spoken clearly. However, I doubt a Beijinger can get 10% of the problems right in this test, lol.
Sichuan dialect is actually Chengdu dialect(or Chongqing). This dialect is a kind of Southwest Mandarin, which is a branch of Mandarin language. Some of the Southwest Mandarin dialects are not very difficult for Beijing person to understand, but some are. Sichuanese is the easiest one in Southwest Mandarin.
@ted2924 Sichuanese is closely related to Mandarin, at least closer than Canto or Shanghai. If a Mandarin speaker was to get lost in the street he/she could perfectly communicate. The video, however used a lot of idioms ("shenanigan" for example, is an idiom) which Mandarin speakers will never get.
Man is this like a parody of the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) exams for Chinese? Haha the format is the same and everything!
BTW I spent 5 months in Chengdu in 2006, taking the HSK in Sichuan University, tutoring some English on the side, eating a lot of CRAZILY spicy food and just chillin'. Thx for upload
@glenngou local vocabularies are vital part of a dialect, keeping just the pronunciation is not really keeping a dialect, I hope there can be some more research and compilation of dialect dictionaries. Saw a series in the library when I was in school.
Vocabularies of all Madarin dialects are similar to Standard Mandarin, especially the core one. But the other non Mandarin dialects are different, such as Yue, Minnan and Wu.
Hello, my name is Kauê, I'm from Brazil, I learn mandarin, but I want to translate a chinese song in dialect, I think it's from sichuan, if there's any sichuanese person here, can anybody translate for me "闭上眼睛你推睡着" in common chinese or in english? I can't understand it. Thanks.
that sentence doesn't sound very sichunese though,...it just means "close (闭上) the eyes (眼睛) and you (你) push (推) fall asleep (睡着)", but as you can see, this "push fall asleep" part doesn't make sense to me, I can't think of any Sichuanese counterpart of it either......are you sure you got it right?
Although Sichuanese is very different from standard Mandarin, it is a kind of Southwest Mandarin, and Northern Chinese people can definitely understand Sichuanese if it is spoken slowlier. However is test is too fast!!!
Since only purely state-owned or government owned programs are shown on TV before, this doesn't have too much problem, but when TV gets more and more culturally diverse today, dialect become more and more vital to it.
Some local dialect are lost only because that area become more and more economically unfavorable, people need incentives to protect the language, when people are still hungry, they don't really care what they have to speak.
It has been 18 years since the failed democratic revolution in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China. I hope one day PRC will let us learn other Chinese dialects, such as Zhejiang dialect (based in Hangzhou) and Southern Jiangsu dialect (based in Suzhou), only after the Communist regime falls. I can imagine and feel how bland our Chinese culture be without those "lively" dialects spoken around here and there. God save the Chinese dialects!
Well, no offense, nor did I want to defend anything about Tiananmen, but I don't understand why everything has to be related to Tiananmen. PRC never forbid people to learn or to use dialect, it's just not widely used on public TV, and the original purpose was of reasonably good will - for better communication -- dialect arts are still vivid in local life.
If you look at the linguistic situation in Taiwan, it's getting better as time passes by (even better than China (PRC)). Although Mandarin is still used in official broadcasts and announcements in Taiwan, there has been a resurgence in the use of Southern Min (Xiamen/Amoy), Hakka, and Northern Min (Fuzhou) dialects, which are now taught in schools. Those dialects are now easily heard in media as well.
I really wish there is a TV show that will teach us to speak various Chinese dialects in China, since most of us can already speak Mandarin. As a native of Zhejiang province living in USA, I still have no chance of learning my ancestors' dialect and I'm still struggling to find someone who can teach me Zhejiang dialect. Wish me luck.
Dialects are not widely taught because they are not standardized (except a few, like Cantonese), and there also lacks enough research on the ways of teaching dialect in the past few decades, as well as the research into dialect itself. Government's discouraging use of dialects on TV and other public media also make dialect less and less prominent in many places. However, the situation is getting better now.

其他源自我的经验,我所接触的几十号上下的广州同学同事没有一个是不会广州话的,而普通话就麻麻得(导致我现在只要你们说话不是太快,我都能听懂,会简单对话),但是首先我得澄清,我出生在重庆,四年大学在上海,学了一口半吊子上海话。
walterleu 3 years ago
至于电视频道,香港对广州的影响大不大?不少地方可以收看香港的电视台吧,现实造成的结果是广州的年轻人都会听普通话,很多年老的人不会,大部分年轻人会说普通话,但是小部分才说得相对标准,而都会广州话。
walterleu 3 years ago
而会不会地方话,取决于出生后父母对子女的教育,我想真正的广州人不会在头五年长期坚持让孩子学习普通话吧,事实上是真正的广州人是从小受到地方对话语言的影响,而后才是听普通话,进入学堂才开始学着说普通话。
walterleu 3 years ago
滿州話表面上被滅絕,但其實滿州話早就融入了北京話的口語中,例如北京國語中的「兒化韻」就是典型滿州話的風格。這是我從書中看到的。
本身不懂國語
klsuperman 3 years ago
那你能说北京话是满语吗?不能吧。满语是有文字的,可是现在的很多人还在做恢复文字的工作。整个大陆儿化韵最严重的地区就是北京,这的确是满族人的功劳。
walterleu 3 years ago
满语对汉语影响很严重,今天的普通话很大程度是满族口音的汉语。清初的时候的北京的汉语很可能很今天江南一带的语言更接近。还有g,k变成j,q,越东北越严重。
wangtianthu 3 years ago
儿化音杭州话里就有不少了

humoursg 2 years ago
因为少数民族天天都对着汉族人,而很多少数民族的父母又不把自己的子女送到民族学校去学习族群母语,所以一些少数民族的语言才有消失的危险,例如满族(不过满族的语言打压开始于大清皇族自己的政策,而后中华民国更是到了极点,到了中共统治,基本不用高压都到了灭绝的边缘,现在还想着恢复)
walterleu 3 years ago
口音還是和國語有點相似度(雖然我國語也是不懂),我說眾多省份方言中廣州話是最跟國語風馬牛不相及而且也是最複雜難學的
klsuperman 3 years ago
推广普通话是好事啊,如果每个地方都有一个方言那谁知道谁在说什么?我就是四川的,没有听说谁要逼你出门都要讲普通话,我也可以选择方言和普通话并用。如果你们要这样攻击中共的政策真的很无知。现在为什么都学英语,因为英语全世界通用,如果照你这样说是不是全世界都要被美国同化?
ttmyr 3 years ago
我也很反感那些一天到晚批评推广普通话的,推普和保留方言文化应该并不矛盾。中央做错的是过分抑制方言——比如广电局在电视上限制方言使用。难道东北方言不是方言!?还到处说。我觉得各地方言都该加强研究,本地文艺作品都是方言,传统文化也都是方言,不能流失了。很多人都不会说本地语言了。
wangtianthu 3 years ago
靠 有点搞笑哈 还有锤子 哈哈
我重庆的 100分
hurenyuan54 3 years ago 3
中共的「推普」運動實在做得太極端,現在越來越多人不懂得自己地方的母語,這些地方的方言也有快被滅絕之趨勢。為了維護政府統治權威而實行單一文化這是好事嗎?和人民真的是利益嗎?對文學和文化算是好事嗎?值得我們深思
klsuperman 3 years ago
这跟国民党在台湾推国语一样,其实地方语言也是国语。
建议你促进民进党,驱赶国语,拥抱台语
walterleu 3 years ago
台語?我不懂
我是HK人
klsuperman 3 years ago
哦,台语就是福建和台湾都在说的闽南话,当然两个地方在某些遣词造句等方面有些用词上的差异......就跟广东话和香港话,在表达上总有一些差异,但是只是某些用词上有差异,语音略微有差别,但是基本是一致的
walterleu 3 years ago
共产党要维护其统治当然要紧跟国民党的后尘推行普通话,其实普通话就是是中华民国所说的国语,只不过在大陆,涉及到其它少数民族所以说成是国语的时候不多,而是用普通话来代替......
这是任何政府都会干的事情,美国人立国的时候,法国人德国人也不少,到最后还不是都变成了说英语......
walterleu 3 years ago
像你所说的,也许并不是为了人民的利益,特别是对少数民族的影响较大,但是对解决内部争端有利益,实际上对汉族人影响并不太大,汉族人只是稍稍需要改变一下发音习惯而方言完全能保存下来,而对小部而语言文字又不太完善的少数民族由于涉及到工作、人口基数等的限制,则较难保存下来............
walterleu 3 years ago
这是一个很武断的结论——把什么都归到维护政府统治权威上面来,总觉得是有阴谋。我还是倾向于把推普过度理解为时代理解的局限和好心做坏事。
wangtianthu 3 years ago
我說他們不止好心做壞事
中共政府解決一個問題的方法通常會帶來十個問題,而最終那個問題還是解決不了,語言政策只是其中一項
klsuperman 3 years ago
越来越多的人不懂自己的地方母语,那应该是对少数民族才有的影响,而对汉族人不懂自己的地方母语的人是少之又少........
walterleu 3 years ago
那你就錯了,君不見現在越來越多廣州人連廣州話也不會說了,一來是外來人口和外省民工大量移入,二來就是各大電子媒體受到中央的「推普政策」影響。現在廣州市的電視台只有一兩條頻道可以繼續用廣州話廣播
klsuperman 3 years ago
你说的这种情况其实很正常,外籍人员进入广东地区,她首先会说的肯定是地方语言,广州深圳东莞等都是几十年移民的功劳,这部分人不能称之为广州人,只能算是有广州户籍的广州人。
walterleu 3 years ago

On the other hand, I agree 广电总局 banning dialect on TV before was totally absurd and wrong, and this rule has more and more exceptions today.
wangtianthu 4 years ago

Wish me luck.
crazyball8e 4 years ago
Dialects are not widely taught because they are not standardized (except a few, like Cantonese), and there also lacks enough research on the ways of teaching dialect in the past few decades, as well as the research into dialect itself. Government's discouraging use of dialects on TV and other public media also make dialect less and less prominent in many places. However, the situation is getting better now.
wangtianthu 4 years ago
