  • Hahahahahahahahahahaaaa!!! Why were you just holding the key?! Do you drive that bus? It's bad for the engine if you kept holding the key, but this is soooo funny!

  • wot a nob parking it so u cant get the hood up!

  • NICE WAY 2 BURN OUT THE STARTER U IDIOT

  • Grinding up the starter.

  • And u wonder why it won't start. Maybe cuz u need a new starter and battery

  • Change the title to "How to destroy a starter and melt down your battery cables".

  • What the hell was that

  • What's he trying to do, use the starter motor as an auxiliary generator??

  • Hahahahahahaha!!! That's a very funny sound! It sounds like the bus is spitting!

  • Hahahahahaha!!! That sound is sooo funny! It sounds like the bus is spitting.

  • wow this kid is stupid it was already running and u just held the key ur an idiot way to get revenge on ur mom/dads day job

  • @0GravyGrav0 How many 8.2L engines have you worked with? This is one of those engines that may sound like it is running, but if you let off the starter, it will stall right out. Also, did you bother to read the description at all? This bus was junked due to many problems. This is why I didn't care about the starter, it was going to the junk yard and I wasn't going to bother waiting 2 minutes for every 10 seconds of cranking. It would have taken forever.

  • Good way to burn out the cranking motor

  • Propane buses sounds wayy better than the deisels and they start up right away in the cold but not as easy to start when their hot

  • @impala3607 Yeah, some of the buses around here are CNG and they sound awesome.

  • DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG YOU ARE KILLING THE STARTER lol

  • That was cool, too bad you got rid of it.

  • I would never hold the starter for more than twenty seconds at a time. Longer than that and you'll overheat the starter moter. Let it cool for a minute or two.

As a kid while on road trips with my parents I used to enjoy reading the owners manual on their Oldsmobile. There is a lot of useful info in there. This was in the days before fuel injection. Not all engines are the same so be sure to understand how yours works.

  • That starter was probably red hot by the time doofus a the throttle got it going.

  • umm why dont you try pumping the gas while your starting it.... instead of killing the damn starter.

  • To stu2zoo31: You don't pump the "gas" pedal! It's fuel-injected AND it's a WEASEL! (: It sure looks and sounds like it's begging for linux' right foot! That would be hot to watch in an old gasoline bus!

  • @stu2zoo31 There is a good reason for this, there was a crack in the fuel line. Pressing my foot on the pedal didn't help it start at all. Now with my new bus that is a different story.

  • holy shit dude, ur a moron sittin there rolling it over for a whole minute

  • MAN! This reminds me of trying to start my old Merc in the morning..

  • Guys I don't think he gives two shits about the dam starter!

  • smmm smm smmm is that burnt starter i smell

  • Did you run it out of fuel? Sounds like you may have to reprime the injectors and fuel filter.

  • dude ur gona like blow the starter! 5 sec should be the longest u hold it !

  • 10 seconds at max, with 30 sec spaces!

  • 51 seconds. That's very long to continue to operate a starter motor. I guess it's okay as long as you don't mind replacing the starter frequently.

  • Let go of the ignition! That's way to long. Otherwise you are going to damage the starter.

  • i have five of my old district busses all old gas with the allison auto.drives my neighbors nuts!!!!!haha

  • Seriously, I don't think a little ether would hurt. It would take a lot of ether to wash the oil off the cylinder walls, and even if you did spray that much in there, it only takes a stroke to re-lube the cylinder wall...

  • Infact starters last way longer then many people think , it´s true and a fact , 9 years of long cranking on a lawnmower before the solenoid broke .

  • Very nice long long steady cranking , love that , it´s infact very good to crank an old diesel long since that´s the only way to start them when they get old and tired and lose compression

  • Let me point this out to everyone who is enjoying calling me stupid for cranking the vehicle for this long. This bus was doomed as it needed more work done to it then was worth. Holding the throttle to help with starting didn't do anything because there was a leak in the fuel line. Luckily I have another bus now that I have yet to post up. So enjoy! :-)

  • Something needs a tune-up there. It should work better than that. How many miles?

And go easy. The starter gets tired if you crank for a minute straight like that. The magnets'll overheat and melt the wire windings.

  • Holding the starter like that is definitely not good for it. You should release it when it sounds like it is about to fire up. If it doesn't catch, try it again while holding the gas pedal to the floor simultaneously.

    Ken Palmer

  • r u crazy? the ether would blow up the starter.

  • I'm curious... why do you have a bus? Not something that you see in everyones yard.

  • Why not have a bus? I don't have this one anymore but I do have another one. So much fun! but not for everyone.

  • Good for you. A bus just for fun. Would love to have one myself. Too bad there are so many ***holes on here calling you names! Would love to see a vid of your new bus anytime.

  • U dummy if she don't start why u keep holding it there. Put some gas in the carburetor stupid & try it.

  • Hmmm. Gasoline in a 8.2 diesel, that would definatly be interesting.

  • humm.... idk. I'm not going to try it

  • weon estupido como se te ocurre maltratar asi ese motor de arranque, gringo tenias que ser concha de tu madre.

  • Ether can be good or bad. Washes the oil coating off of the cylinder walls. Too much ether can do bad things. But a lil squirt probably isn't bad.

  • Loss of compression . 100 % sure . That happens to all old diesels . And if that happen they sound like this . Maybe it will start if you crank it 2 more minutes

  • your like absolutely killing the starter on it

  • what a waste of time!

  • wow, trying to kill the starter are we?? I drive a new bus but when i have to sub in the 88 gmc, i know it does not take that long to start...

  • How cold was it when you tried to start it. It was very cold the day I was staring this. Maybe around 15F.

  • I would say the coldest I have started one of our subs would be around 25F, and they normally just sit for about 2 or 3 months between starts.

  • Sounds like a broken rap song. LOL I have to ask do you just not care is that why you were starting it like that?

  • your stupid

  • your stupid!!! do you still want a starter for the bus???

  • it would have been funny if you yelled at someone behind you, "What are you staring at?!"

  • i drive a 1997 int thomas dt466e 5spd man. here in pa shes a runner gd [power no problem up hills with the stick

  • Yeah not this bus. Still was the best though. I noticed in a post you have a 8.2 TD. I would be interested in it if you weren't too far away (although I guess distance isn't really a concern). I am in Boston MA area.

  • hey buddy you talk to steveo here ill get u a bus

  • hey man i can get u a bus for 500 bucks only thing mite need is exhaust and tires your kool what u do ill hk u up bro

  • yo dude do u want another one lol i got 2 89 chevy bblubirds one is 366gasfi stk the other is the 8.2 td they r retired from r rafting fleet in pa both run well linux222 where u from bud

  • Typical Cold blooded 8.2 Detroit, My buddy had a 1981 with one of those engines and boy wasn't it a bitch to start in the cold. unless you had ether that always fired it right up every time.

  • You should have sold it to me!!!

  • that bus was Pure LOLocaust

  • u should never pump a diesel no need 2 just hold pedal like halfway and steady or spray with ether lol thats what we do at pleasant valley school district in pa

  • hey dude give it a shot of starting fluid it will start rite up sounds like a 8.2v8 turbo we have those where i drive they r hard 2 start under 40degrees we spray air cleaner with fluid they start rite up

  • yeah except mine was the wonderful non-turbo-ed. I got 15MPG so I was happy :-)

  • I will post some more videos of this bus when I can. As soon as I get my new bus I will start uploading those videos. Unfortunately that won't be for a little while, but hopefully sometime next month. Stay posted!

  • cool cranking man

  • you are engaging that starter WAAAAAAAAYY to long, you'll end up burning it out.... try to limit it to 15seconds.

Also, you must pump the throttle a few times before attempting to start the bus.

  • Yeah I know now. This was my first diesel vehicle and was a blast to drive. I actually drove it everywhere as my everyday driver. Too bad I had to get rid of it. It needed more than $5000 in work to get it to pass inspection. Now I have to save up again to get another bus.

Reason why it would never start is because there was a leak in the fuel line right at the injection pump. I found that out right before I got rid of the bus. Too bad I can't get this bus back. it was scrapped.

  • My bus isn't my everyday driver, however, I would occasionally drive it for a full week, to work, then to school, or wherever, then go back to driving my car, cuz it got expensive to drive lots of miles.

  • pump her up!
