But the origin of this song is Dutch I think? I mean, Germans were not really know to be capers, I think? (As far as there was a Germany as we know it now..)

Friesland is both: German and Netherland.

Under Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, and king of Spain, the region was part of the Seventeen Provinces of the Netherlands, which also included most of present-day Belgium, Luxembourg, and some land of France and Germany.

btw.: Germanys most popular Pirat was Klaus Störtebecker (1360-1401). He had some kind of socialist Philosophie: equal share of the community-income for every person.

Oh, yes, that's true, you're right.

And I should've remembered about Störtebecker, because a friend of mine is in a Dutch folk-metal band and they have a song about him! :D

(My German is too poor to write, but I can read it quite reasonably ;) that's why I chose English for now.)

folk-music is international and is performed for everyone, nationality doesn't matter.

btw. for example OMNIA is a great band from Netherland...

ähem...Spam-Kommentare lösche ich normalerweise. Alles was ausserhalb des eigenen Musikgeschmacks liegt, als "Kackwurst" zu bezeichnen, ist gelinde gesagt unhöflich und engstirnig. Informiere dich mal über die Gruppe "Elster Silberflug" - und AUCH DU wirst diesen Musikern gegenüber Respekt empfinden, die schon länger als jede andere Mittelalter-Band aktiv sind.

Auch Holländer (siehe Video-Response) mögen diese Gruppe :-)

I like this version as well. It's very different from the version played by Fungus, so you really can't compare them. German and Dutch are very simular languages. This song proves so. Nice!

nee dit liedje is een oud liedje van nederland al die willen te kaapren varen moeten mannen met baarden zijn Jan, Pier, Tjores en Corneel die hebben baarden, die hebben baarden Jan, Pier, Tjores en Corneel die hebben baarden zij varen mee Al die deftige pijpkens smoren... Al die met ons de walrus killen... Al die dood en de duivel niet duchten... nederlands is leuker als duits holländisch is viel cooler als deutsch zumindest bei dem liedje
