  • popcorn.

  • I love that northern soul has its own following...can someone please explain to me how it became so popular n why do you speed it up at times?? Inquiring minds want to know?

  • nice wee tune

  • just sold on ebay for £100..the type of sound that was getting played in the 90`s at northern soul venues but only seem to get played in certain rooms playin certain styles today

  • Ya thanks homeboy for the info. Sounds firme

  • 2:40min of pure pleasure.

  • good upload but not a not a northern dancer .......

  • Get on any dance floor and you know what Northern Soul is, this actualy passes now for those who forget what Northern Soul music was all about..Northern Soul is smashing its way back into the dance scene in the UK..KTF

  • POP CORN OLDIE.

  • Hi PJ Been loving your posts for a while now,,, please don't be offended by us over sensitive Brits when It comes to "Northern" Soul... The debates started years ago and will continue to do so until it is no more ( thats what keeps it alive)

Thanks for the education around doo wop I had always had an interest and now check it out all the time. As regards above track???? 30 years a go it wouldnt have stood a chance... today as Northern as whippets, mushy peas, flat caps & Cory :)

  • I'm not offended by anyone's comments, but thank you for acting as a Northern Soul ambassador :)

To be honest, when I posted this I hardly knew a thing about Northern Soul. I was being educated by the same fools that consider anything with a beat Northern Soul. If I were to post this today I'd probably refer to it as 60's r&b and possibly even popcorn.

Northern Soul is still quite confusing to a lot of Americans (myself included). I appreciate any honest education I can get.

  • @PJDooWop

Northern Soul.....is not tied down to a decade...... or tempo....it has to have soul in beat breaks in music and words.....from a fast stomper to a soulful ballard.....if its got it ....its got it...you know when you here it.....!!!!....KH....KEEPING THE FAITH

  • PJ. I totally agree with Rictic66. The debates still range around Northern, Years ago it was Northern V Southern i.e anything south of Watford gap (funky stuff played in London) but even there we had outposts in the Capitol, I personally bought records from Record Corner in Balham. Northern is constantly evolving musically wise, hence the slower tempos & R&B flavours of today, however the friendships & camaradery of yesterday still apply today.

In a nutshell "Northern Soul is a way of life"

  • @OURNORTHERNSOUL - Thanks so much for giving me even more info. As a curious American I enjoy the insight.

  • @PJDooWop I think in short, if a track had "that" melody, that special sound about it which brought about a feeling, be it a fast floor filler like the Theme from Joe 90 or a slow ballard, and the beat fitted the dance, it was quickly snapped up and adopted as Northern Soul, be it Len Barry or LuLu...

  • @OURNORTHERNSOUL

As a cambridge lad of the time we had both the northern and southern around ours some tried to mix it,but for me the many hours hitchhicking up to wigan, stoke blackpool, and who could forget wolverhampton, those where the days, the long trip home still buzzing from the sounds, the dj,s russ ,stan, down our way della.shaped my life, and still do,

  • @PJDooWop Been into Northern and collecting the stuff since '82 and I'm still confused so you are not on your own mate!

  • ACE... KTF :-)

  • This is lovely, thanks.

  • New set of ears for sluggs51, poor chap

  • QUALITY, QUALITY QUALITY this is why I collect 45's comon shuffle shuffle gurn.

  • Northern Soul Dancer........hahahahahaha ya gotta be kidding me... not even northern in any way...rare it maybe but its crap...

  • And what do you know, fat boy?

  • if this is a dancer you must have one leg

  • Immaculate.

    I mean immaculate.

  • I agree Unionjack. I dont like all this Popcorn and Crossover whatever tag they want to place on it. Get me back to the early 70s so I can hear some stompers. Almost falling to sleep here. Great soul, dont get me wrong. But Id have not looked at it twice at the Soul Bowl Im afraid.

  • Soul yes, Blinding Soul. Northern. Not the Northern I know and love Must be getting old as it sounds so much the same as alot of other mid tempo soul..

  • yayayayayayayayayayayayayaya

  • Another winner there my man! I like it a lot. Thank you!

  • These are the real treasures of Northern Soul

  • Is the record for sale???

  • Hey scarface. Although I've had a few tempting offers, I can't bring myself to sell this record unless I found a stock copy (which a few of presume may not exist) or a promo in similar condition.

  • listen to baby washington "leave me alone"

  • That's one of my favorites

  • sorry for presuming, glad you like her version to.

  • I wouldn't say you were presuming.. You're always welcome to make a suggestion, especially one as good as that.

  • ok then, one at a time, just to share the beauty.

The Ethics "i want my baby back"

  • Good job. I never heard that before.. It's great, and now on my 45 want list

  • another one to stir with : Garnet Mimms "as long as i have you"

  • god best ever

  • Love this never heard it before really mellow and groovy man!

  • wait who is this by? It's a fantastic track, I wish I had a copy of it! can't stop playing it man! everyone I've played it for loves it.

  • This is Don't Leave Me Behind by Rick Lovejoy. I don't know much about him. Wish I did

  • can anyone shed any light why this 45 is so damn hard to find? anyone own an issue?

  • I wish I knew Sherwood. I found this 45 about 15 years ago and I have never seen or heard of another copy for sale anywhere.

  • Absoultely brilliant and a track that is very relevant at this moment

  • liking it pj

  • Superb track,much appreciated

  • Glad you appreciate it

  • wonderful tune PJ!!...thanks..x

  • this is just rite, tip XXXXX top !!!!!

  • Thank you

  • great track

  • PJDoowop, thanks for posting, I thinnk all are entitled to their opinion as to whther they like or dislike this record. However I can help you wioth its rarity. This was released in 1965 and was in fact the B side to 'My last love'. It was released about a month or so before The Yums Yums Gonna be a big thing. It hardly ever comes up for sale for whatever reasons and is probably worth about the same as the yum yums track circa £600-750. Hope that helps

  • Thank you so much for the education. That's the most info I've been able to get on the record since I found it.

  • Very very nice !

  • Nice tune ;-)

  • Thank you

  • hi, if sold this records please let me know thank you.

  • I'm sorry, I'm not interested in selling my copy. If I ever do come across another copy you'll be the first person I let know.

  • I can understand if you don't like the track.. Everyone's entitled to their opions. However, I'd like to beg to differ about it's rarety. I am avid record collector and have the only copy I've ever seen. I have not seen one for sale besides this one and none is available on ebay, gemm, musicstack or the other record sites. I've asked 2 world reknowned collectors about this and they were both stumped. My question is what do you know that we all don't? I'd love to get some info on this one

  • Well, I like it, and I thank you for posting it.

  • I appreciate it. Ty

  • brill...

  • GREAT TUNE !!!! ....:)

  • very nice track.

  • sounds just a little like Brooke Benton, good record.

  • great vocal but fussy arrangement typical JP Still like it though

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH.

    What a wonderfull song.

    Thanks a lot

  • 1st time ive heard it ... fantastic , x

  • i love this kind of music...

  • This was great! Do you have Tony Colton "I stand accused" ?? also on ABC. If so, kindly post, your sight is the most!

  • this is a new sound to my ears. I like it like this. Cheers for that :-) Soul Power

  • this is sooo cool,lovin' it...ktf

  • Jazz genius Johnny Pate (who is still alive) produced this and the Impressions too in Chicago for ABC-he has a good web site.

Johnny was thus a factor why ABC had much good Northern soul from 62-66-thank you, Johnny!

  • Top Stuff.

  • Never heard of this guy or this track, but one of the cool things about the Northern scene is the discovery of new tunes. ABC was always one of the better major labels for Northern goodies!

  • Pure Northern Soul at its finest! Thanks for sharing this!

  • new one to me, its excellent

  • It was new to me too when I found it almost ten years ago. I picked this up in a collection of a former RCA Camden employee. He had tons of obscure 78s and 45s (most were RCA presses) and he had a handful of non RCA related material, such as this one. I would not be surprised if this was a promo only issue. The song is virtually unknown.

  • Superb tune

  • Thank you

  • Hey Rob great minds again, lol. Love this track!
