  • Beautyful!

    Best Regards from Germany

  • man you are so good. So it's all improvised? That's fantastic! Mind if I steal some of your ideas? I got a jazz combo gig coming up and I'm soloing on this song.

  • In this video I have a 1920 Wilfer, my main instrument (German). Here I think I am using Kolstein Heritage strings, but they might be Pirastro Evah Parazzis. Im now using Velvet Animas....constant search for the perfect tone and feel!

  • Sounds great - what bass and strings are you using? Thanks for posting..

  • Solid playing Thomson, from one of your former students, I dig it.

  • Shreddin' dude.

  • Tone, technique, taste, intonation: great!

  • @simonlah Thanks, simoniah! Sorry I have to screen comments, so it took a minute for yours to show up...have too many people posting viral videos and ads on my pages. Thanks for listening!

  • Tone, technique, taste: great!

  • I want to start by saying you sound great. You have great musicality. I would like to raise one concern. Your stance (more side than approaching from back right corner) means that when you are in the lower register your wrist is at a more severe angle than necessary. You run the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome... keep playing, just do so in front of a mirror to see the angle of your wrist and try to correct it. Again, I like this rendition.

  • Yeah, yeah, yeah, but can you do Smoke on the Water?

    Actually, that was astounding. :D

  • what were you using to record with?

  • @hanaad95 was using a Mac laptop at this point. I acquired a camcorder since, so most recent videos and future videos should be better quality, though youtube still compresses the audio and video down...

  • wow. the thumb position stuff is what got me.

  • Excellent!! And your intonation is spot on.

  • i like the reference to the cannonball version of this tune at the end

  • tight man... i play the electric but love your sense of swing.... a real nice gumbo

  • Do you have the String Bass Music Sheet for this?

  • it's all improvised, my friend...you can find the lead sheet in one of the Chuck Sher real books, but I always recommend learning standards like these by ear, if possible and then doublechecking your changes/melody with the sheet music

  • I would have a tought time being that dynamic on my electric bass. INSANE!

  • You're fuckin' amazing man!

  • finally videos put out by someone who knows what they're doing

  • There are a few of them on the Tube - players 'who know what they're doing', but man, I know what you're saying. I was looking for a version of Confirmation, by Parker, and stumbled on this dude. OMgoodG! He is solid.

  • Nice tone...what kind of bass is that?

  • thanks...it's a Wilfer (German), approximately 1920. I have another made by his son, about 30 years later, 7/8 size which sounds great also..actually for sale if anyone knows anyone...unfortunately, Im not 6' tall, and at a certain point it becomes silly to have a great bass lying around that I never play...I also switched string brands after this video, so check out my latest videos for the tonal change

  • Just bought a wilfer and am doing this for my auditions, thanks for the ideas, keep plucking man.

  • wonderful

  • Tasty! I adore the timbre of the acoustic upright, cant be beaten.

  • Wow! Great playing!

  • what song is this?

  • Autumn Leaves

  • parabéns!!

  • Great feel!

  • great!

  • nice one

  • Nice lines! I might be borrowing 2:07-2:25 :)

  • Thank you for this wonderful performance!
