On my old CRT computer monitor, I could easily see flicker at 60hz. You can too especially if you look slightly to the left or right of the screen. I usually set my refresh rate at 75 or 85, and it was noticeably more "stable" to me. I get no flicker at all on my flat widescreen replacement, and I don't even KNOW the refresh rate.
@Jedi0786 You can easily see flicker at 60hz, even 75hz. For most people 85hz looks pretty much comfortable on plain white. Anything more than 100hz is a waste on the human eye in the same way full range CD audio quality was on the ear. And frankly claims of 600hz is absurd since most LCDs struggle to refresh greys and browns at 200hz.
600hz would require consistent response times of 1.666ms across the board, which we arent anywhere close to having yet.
It amazes me that we have to go to such high frame rates and megahertz to get a decent picture on an lcd. Also we need to think about response times vs hrz rate etc. All crap! We never had any of that with CRT. You just bought one (even a 14 inch,) and you got perfect frame rates, perfect response times and no blurring of movement. And they call LCD/Plasma progress! What bullshit! I am sticking with my 22 in crt monitor and my 24 inch crt TV! you can keep your shiit LCD's/Plasmas.!
i tather use a 50hz tv to play video games, cuzz with a 100hz tv there,s a slicht delay wich can interrupt gameplay.
despites seeing everything much smoother but when you want to react quickly in an situation it,s allready to late becouse what you see onscreen was already happend in a fraction of a second early.
so do,nt think that 100hz makes gameplay smoother.

In 2012 panasonic plasma's have 2500 Hz! 10 sub fields of 250hz. (2011 models: 10 subfields of 60hz = 600hz).
Flicker should be gone!

The conventional image looks as if it was deliberately blurred to make it look bad.

@johneymute That maybe true for LCD and LED, but Plasma offers input delays of 0.001ms which is far superior than even LED
