  • hey, What's The Buzz?

  • Would you just listen to that bass line ...just listen. Good lord have mercy

  • Is this the version with Ian Gillan?

  • @LeonaPumpkin Yes, it is. I wore a hole in this record in 1972, then got the cassette tape!

  • @LeonaPumpkin It sure is! Best freaking version if you ask me!

  • incomparable sound indeed

  • Allan freaking Spenner...I want to buy this album because of him.

  • *well i dont hate it but i dont like it. its ok but i wouldnt want to watch it again

  • um... its alright. catchy but i hate the movie... too much singing

  • @10181022Rainbow um...it's an opera. That is the whole point. It is ALL sung. Maybe with a very few spoken words.

  • Not the version I have.

  • i came here from a picture off devianart

  • Super Awesome!

  • Anyone know who played Bass on this track and on "Superstar"? Pure early 70's Funk!!!

  • @NS9213 It's Alan Spenner. Excellent bass player, check out the last 3 Roxy Music albums. There's a track called "Stronger Through The Years" in which he really shines. Spenner died in 1991, unfortunately.

  • @Tullvideoclips thanks I've always wondered

  • I SWEAR the intro sounds just like the Super Mario invincibility music.

  • Its got the funk, no doubt.

  • Ian Gillan was awesome here, and in the band Deep Purple!

  • What's the buzz? Tell me what's happening!

  • 1.33... Ian Gillan..The speed king!!!...........

  • wow, Gillan is best! Simply Highway Star:)

  • R.I.P. Alan Spenner. His bass on this tune was the first cool bass line I heard as a child, and it totally changed my life!

  • Three people can't hear the buzz.

  • we used to play stuff like this when i was in high school and college jazz band inn the late 70s. out professors back then were old jazz cats that turned us on the the good stuff, like this type of playing. nowadays the kids play shit like "joop, there it is" in school bands. -yeah right. tunes like this simply rock and have kickass merit and there aint no way around it. i am glad i grew up playing this stuff. it made me a better pro bass player later as an adult.

  • I love this (1970) original soundtrack version best.

I'd forgotten how butt-kicking the rhythm section was. Divine inspiration for the bass line.

  • They used to teach more Music in Public Schools. Now we get what we pay for. more

kids today in 2011 are musically illiterate.

  • @coconutcrab4martin Amen. Ask any kid (or adult, for that matter) what "orchestration" is and they will give you a cross-eyed look in return. Those who don't will say some BS like "opera," "# of musicians in a band," or "classical." God help the future of live music.

  • @coconutcrab4martin There are other avenues for those who want it enough to seek it out. I did not participate in the music program in school, yet I just licensed my first original musical. It would be great for schools to to provide tools to prod students with potential who lack the personal initiative I had, but unfortunately times are tight, and for each student who would go on to achieve what I have, resources for special programs would be wasted on hundreds who just didn't want to take gym.

  • They used to teach more Music in Public Schools. Now we get what we pay for.

  • fuck music was good be4 motherfuckers rappers invaded it

  • this is the greatest rock musical ever!

  • Fantastic vocals!

  • @mcpharter Deep Purple's Ian Gillan is the voice of Jesus on the songs. Doesn't get much better than that.

  • The bass is the feeliing

  • Gillian is way too sexual to be Jesus.

    BUT HES SO FREKAING GOOD.

  • @Seligsuper ..."when in Rome"...

I don't think 'Jesus' was 'above "sexual pleasure"...I think that is the premise of being born to the material plane. Why would we exist on a 'Sensual Plane' if we weren't meant to experience it...Surely, we aren't born to merely rise above it...

  • Gillan!!!!

  • from here on out, when you go to a hotel, look for the Gillian's Bible...replacing all the Gideons....

  • I saw a band at a bar play this song and I was totally knocked out!

  • One Who Dislikes:

    You Prefer Ted Neeley?!

  • @talil9 ted neeleys version is a joke compared to this version

  • @icebergUK What a Christianthing to say.

  • this version is 10000 times better than the movie version

  • i have this Pic tattoed forearm.. :)

  • oh gillan...oh gillan! ....

  • Man, I could dance to that beat.

  • This is how Christian rock should sound.

  • @rems1995

This is some great Christian rock out there..

  • Really.... Who played bass on this fine cut? Does anyone know?

  • @JohnJWinnicki

Alan Spenner. He's had quite a career. Look up his name in Wikipedia.

  • Great bass line!

  • Ted was great....Loved the movie...

    Ian is AWESOME!!!!!

  • this is the really bible... ian gillan's my god

  • damn good stuff, it all rocks.

  • JESUS NEVER SOUNDED SO DAMN FUNKY!!

  • or my grandma

  • @iltubo literally lol

  • Hey maybe when u get a chance you can put up PILAte and Christ, cuz i cant find the original anywhere...or trial before pilate *39 lashes....or King herods song..

  • THIS is good music!

  • WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE!? that's what I get from this.

  • Gillan is GOD!

  • 1:33

    jesus goes super saiyan.

  • The film version is MUCH better! Ted is a better Jesus.

  • @dabom392 well said!! :)

  • @dabom392 I saw Ted in the stage version, him and Carl and they were great but I guess I like this version better because it was the first I heard

  • @dabom392 your smoking crack, hes good in the movie but he cant touch ian gillans vocals on this.....sorry

  • if religion was like this music would communicate i would probably still belive :D

  • I haven't heard this in years. Thank you Mayer and Armstrong being interviewed on Theater Talk for reminding me of how great this is.

  • @MaestroLeech I dust my original CD off every Easter season. Especially on Good Friday. Helps bring me back to my religious roots...

  • this track is way too fast... take some chill pills way too fast

  • Absolute classic timeless piece of work.

  • wow!! id forgotten how bloody good the original still is!!! IAN GILLIAN GETS HIS GROOVE ON IN THIS!!!!! jesus was never so funky!!!

  • Gotta love the organ. So early 70's!!!! Sounds like Atomic Rooster!!!

  • if you knew the path we're riding, you'd understand it less than I....

  • fucking amazing bass in it!

  • Tell me whats Happening...

  • Y should you need to know dont mind about the future

  • Wait... Does he say "let her stroke you, kiss your hair" and not vice versa?

  • @AlaricxMalgraith yes are u deaf

  • @zulonz I'm pretty sure in the movie it's "let her kiss you, stroke your hair." The idea of Mary "stroking" Jesus sound a lot more erotic.

  • Murray Head (Judas) is the guy who sang "One Night In Bancock" back in the 1980s. This is the first time I've heard this version that I can tell it's him.

  • Love the rhythm guitar...

  • IAN GILLAN was amazing and is one of my favorite singers. I have to admit, which is not an insult, Ole Murray Head( Judas) took the cake.

  • So...Jesus is invincible?

  • @glebs that's the Message

  • The definitive "must have" album in any rock collection.

  • Oh, Buddah also layed down some great Bass !!!

  • There are several Bass players on the album. Spenner would be my guess from the sound, but I 'am not sure.

  • ian gillan should have done the movie

  • IAN GILLAN = GOD

  • Bass like this could only be played by Jesus

  • @LetThereBeMajorRocks

    It probably was anyways :)

  • @LetThereBeMajorRocks Yes, but I would like to know who is His human ...

  • @LetThereBeMajorRocks or Flea. Same thing, basically.

  • @LetThereBeMajorRocks This actually made me laugh out loud! Awesome!

  • @LetThereBeMajorRocks Amen my brother!!!!!

  • jesus never had this much funk in the bible

  • Yes he did.

It was hidden by the Catholics and the other early "church fathers".

They didn't have the funk, and in their book(s) they wouldn't let anyone else have it either.

  • that may be the funniest comment I've read on youtube hahah

  • @blardosplats: LOL :)))

  • @blardosplats well said indeed!!!!

  • ROFL :) Dude, you're awesome (as in "awe inspiring.") Bestest joke ever on YouTube :D

  • The best album ever. Lyrics, subject, and the mix.

The second best album ever, IMHO, is Elton John's 'Tumbleweed Connection', and if possible even better mixed than this one.

  • yeah me too on TC I do Where to now ts peter; Balad of a well known gun; Country comfort; and Love song from that album; acousticly very sweet songs

  • this is the best version! it sounds very well

  • That's my thought too! This is the ultimate lesson in groovy rock bass! The whole album, actually, but this track especially.

But I must add, all players are super! This is truly a rock bible!

  • Joe Cocker's Grease Band

  • best bass line in the score... Alan Spenner baby!

  • someone gets bass player magazine...

  • Check at 1:33. Now that's a rock n roll scream! Incredible double album.

  • I'm with you!! Gillan has the golden scream!!

  • Ian Gillan is God!

  • Actually he's Jesus.. haha just kidding! He's Super amazing!!

  • Hahaha! You made my day with that comment XD

  • listen from beginning to end Bass line will be your last thought

  • Bass track rocks!

  • I'm sorry, but I have to say that the guitar part in "Strange Thing, Mystifying", is one of the most beautiful, melodic solos I've ever heard. I heard this version of the song in 1970 and very few things have held up as well over the years.

  • Thank-you so much for uploading this album. I too think this it has the best versions of all the songs--voice *and* music.

  • DITTO! Album version is the best. Ian Gillian can be touched bt no one.

  • totally the best version of this musical to date.

  • I don't know. Did you ever hear the Australian version? It was a little harder, and, incidentally, I think it fit the storyline better than the poppiness that tends to carry through all of Weber's stuff.

  • Thanks for the original uploads; playing these renewed my interest. I first listened to the original album when I was 9. Now I need to get these on CD.

  • Let me try to cool down your face a bit...

Mary OOOH that is Goood :D

    I bet :D Awesome musical:)

  • Yvonne and Ian... WOW

  • And Murray! :D

  • pretty cool stuff thats for sure!!!
