  • the only thing this proves is that forged steel is strong. THAT IS ALL. a Suzuki frame would do that.

  • i'm sorry , but this Prove what Exactly ? we seen the LR3 , what abut the Other cars ?

  • i'm sorry , but this Prove what Exactly ?

  • Yeah and!!!!!!!!!! tie off to the tie down loops and i might be a bit more impressed! the lifting plates where nearly full length under that chassis.

  • At 0:05 - Time check incorrect No AM/PM please. Use the new time: 8:00 AM/PM is redundant. Otherwise an excelent klip.

  • Land Rovers Are Beasts!!!! And it look so cool.

  • Land Rover Super voiture!!

    1-mer voitur à monde!!))

  • I'd expect it to take AT LEAST 10 tons. Most people use recovery straps between 8 and 14 tons BS when off roading and most winches will pull 10 tons with a snatch block.

I think landy are great (I've got one) but I'd be more impressed if they could make one that didn't leak oil, or water or rust to bits etc.

  • Great video and yes chassic is strong, shame that as soon as you take them Offroad every bolted to the chassic breaks !

  • yea they showed the steel thing under it,, thats what their hanging from

i love land rovers,, but come on now,,,

  • too bad that the cars are actually attached to some red thing under the land rover

  • WOooow!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not sure I get the point of this: they've proved a Discovery 3's bodyframe - which has a _HUGE_ amount of material in it, has at least as much tensile strength as the far less substantial winch cable that's holding the whole lot in the air? I'd bloody hope so!

  • Nope , just great designing, engineering. Even heavy bodies wouldn't necessarily be able to do this

  • I'm not saying it's badly engineered - far from it - just that have you seen a Disco 3 chassis? They're a pair of 3mm box section steel rails! Of course it'll be as strong as a winch cable... Series landrovers, Landcruisers, Mitsi L200 etc. all share this and are of a comparable amount of material, hence I'd be willing to bet they'd survive the same treatment.

Not dissing the Disco 3 at all - I just don't get this from an engineering standpoint...

  • The Disco 3 has a kerb weight of 2.7 tons which makes the old Disco and Rangie look positively anorexic in comparison. The bodyshell alone would make a strong unitary structure yet LR then decided to screw it to a heavy ladder chassis...just to make sure. Impressive but does it need to be this heavy. And boy does it like to drink!

  • NIIIIICE

  • Amazing love it. Go ROVER go!

  • y th fuck u gmail me

    nd i speak fuckin english

  • land rover the best....

  • no sabes nada de suvs tonta

  • I am dissapointed in Toyota using IFS in the front with the LC200...but the LR3 uses inde susp front and rear, so....

So far the LC200 has done nothing but prove its worthyness of the Land Cruiser name to me.

  • Despite the LR3's IRS it is as competent off road if not more so than the LC200. The LR is substantially cheaper to buy and operate. The LC has a lower GVM and same towing capacity than the LR. The LC in AU seats 8 (5 adults), the LR 7. The LR in AU is as well built and reliable as the LC, as noted in the many COTY awards won by the LR3. I wouldnt be so dismissive of the LR3. Further you should be glad that theres real competition since you will end up with a better car on account of it.

  • Speaking of chassis, I was just reading about how many people in the U.S are experiencing major stress fractures in the new Toyo FJ. Uh oh.

(subdriven forums) Oooh yeah theres pics too!

  • you mean FJCruisers...which dont share a single damn thing with real Land Cruisers? And its body stress btw.

COMPLETELY differently built, that like me comparing your series to a LR freelander.

  • Its body and chassis stress, resulting from issues with the strength and rigidity of its chassis (or lack thereof). I wasnt trying to undermine the LC, clearly the LC is competant in that regard. Since we were talking about chassis design I just wanted to show clear and quantifiable Toyo design shortcomings as a counterpoint to alleged and unprecedented chassis flaws in LR.

  • yes mate but what im saying is that the Land Cruiser and FJCruiser are two different animals built for two different purposes. Thats like comparind the LC to a PT cruiser, just because they through the word "cruiser" in there doesnt mean anything.

  • Comment removed

  • Was it not you who referred to th LR3 as a SUV? Nonetheless I was not tyring to compare them as being in the same class of vehicle. I think the most appropriate vehicle to compare the LR3 against is the LC200, not LC's of various other types or more importantly vintage.

  • Comment removed

  • yes I agree on that point, however the LC200 is a damn good car and in my book nothing else comes close to their reliability, build quality, or performance....Except maybe a new 70 series or the new 105 series.

  • I was very much so worried about the same thing...until I drove the turbo diesle 2009 model...what a car! The engine is the best on the market no doubt, the drivetrain is still built to withstand 100 years of intence bush abuse and the body is very well built, interior is easy to use and comes in an 11 seater, not to mention all of the off road companies and teams allready using them and building things for them, all rover has is rovertym and ARB.

  • Ive replyed like ten times, and nothing is showing up...this may not...

  • It IS impossible to get a 105 into the US - come over to the 'cruiser forum ih8mud and show us pics. It's not a question of 'pulling strings'. Also show us pics/video of the LR3 driving with all doors removed. Is it your mate who thinks they have the Explorer chassis? lol.

  • How did you disable the door airbags? My previous mention doesn't appear to have got through - the LR3 air suspension will not work with the doors off.

  • I miei hanno una Discovery 3 2.7TD. E' una macchina veramente ma veramente eccellente da tutti i punti di vista.

  • I can't help but think that you could have done the exact same thing with any of the other 4x4's... perhaps not, but then again I'm fresh out of cranes do test with so...

  • I like the way they're all wearing hard hats.. That's really gonna protect you if four 4x4's come crashing down onto you!

  • i love Land Rovers,

    but

    the way they filmed it

makes it looks like its a movie,

    and not a documentary.

  • Maybe these new Discos are a little...over engineered?

  • what an asinine video

  • la touareg si spaccherebbe in 2

  • sono circa 7000 kg!!

perchè non lo rifanno con la touareg però

  • Actually the Disco3 has 2 chassis. One a standard chassis and the 2nd mono-cock.

  • hmm I wonder why they didnt show the end result...it is the strongest of all the cars depicted but if you put a Land Cruiser in the mix then the Land Cruiser would win no doubt.

after all the LR3 is on a Ford explorer chassis

  • land rovers are the best so fuck you, i bet you have owned a nissan micra

  • nope ive owned a Defneder90 93 Roverclassic, I hated them both so I sold them for Land Cruisers, of which I now have 13 Land Cruisers

  • the lr3 isn't bulit in using any ford explorer components

  • its built on a ford explorer chassis, I know what a tough vehicle the ford explorer is...

  • really have you ever own one

  • nope but I wheel every weekend with an 05hse and an 07se, they are terrible off road they get hung up on every obsticle, and the 07 is always having electricle problems, such as the suspension getting stuck

  • i was taking about the explorer, they have great chassis, there towing rated for about 7,300ib,witch is around the same as the pre 2008 landcruisers

  • HA!! the frame is quite weak if you study upon it for example if you were to take the doors off and go wheeling I bet you couldnt put your doors back on, that because the frame and body cant handle extreme articulation and twisting, dont beleive me...try it

  • thats because the chassis is designed to be stiff, for a better ride and towing capictity

  • if its designed to be stiff then why does it bend so easily? for example on my friends 2001 105 series, when I went to moab with him we took his doors off and did some insane wheeling, the doors went back on no problem but a 98 Jeep GC did the same thing and his doors didnt fit, and my friends 05 LR3 went with us and he opened his door while on the backside of hells revenge to get some pics and he couldnt shut his door back, the cruiser and LR3 were ment to do similar things, see what im saying?

  • again,i was talking about the ford explorer, but i think the the reason for that is that the lr3 was designed to work best off road with all the doors shut, plus unlike the land cruiser the lr3 is unibody chassis, neither is the grand cherakee, but that must have been expensive!!

  • what im saying is while the LR3 is a half decent frame, its not as tuff as a Land Cruiser, the cruiser was made to work best with doors shut as well but if you take them off you dont have to worry about not being able to put them back on, the cruiser has a far superior frame and overall construction. my friend took his LR3to the dealer and they didnt do anything for him, now when he shuts hisdoor he has to lift up and pull for it to shut. imagine doing that with a explorer,it would fall in half

  • i think the reason that happend was that when he open the door is because all the preasure when too that part off the body frame and twisted it up,probably wouldn't happen if all the doors where open, plus your probably right about the chassis being stronger, but it should be its is a full size body on frame layout!!

  • Land Rover chassis are second to none. In fact the LR3 chassis is far stronger than any Toyota since it incorporates a moncoque chassis attached to the ladder frame chassis.

Having to lift the door has nothing to do with the chassis integrity or strength.

  • their frames are rubish and you are a damn fool if you think otherwise, as I was sayng to the other guy they used a ford explorer chassis...the entire vehicle flexs to where if you took the doors off and wheeled it you wouldnt be able to put them back on, it doesnt return to normal state. top that with their flexless suspension and terrible reliability and you have the worlds worst 4x4

  • *Sigh* I repeat the LR DOES NOT use the Ford F150 chassis or its derivatives, go look it up if you dont believe me.

  • Comment removed

  • when Ford owned LR they USED THE EXPLORER CHASSIS FOR THE LR3.

As far as doors off, I wheeled with my neighbors 05 LR3 two years ago in Moab, we took his doors off...he tried hells gate(and didnt make it btw) we couldnt fit two of his doors back on because the frame has twisted so much...I took the doors off of my 06 105 series cruiser and put them back on with no problem, and won first in all three events. Dont get the Cruisers frame mixed with other Toyotas, they are quite different

  • No they did not! Land Rover at NO TIME used the explorer chassis!!

No car relies solely or even substantially upon its doors to maintain chassis rigidity, strength or integrity. Your assertion that the frame deformed because of offroading just isnt plausible. If it occured at all (there is no precedence of this occuring) its likely that whomever tried tried reinstall the doors lacked any mechanical aptitude. It really just sounds like a hate fabrication.

  • They did use the explorer chassis, your a damn fool if you think they didnt! When a car is built especially a 4 door SUV it is designed for the doors to be part of the cars structural integrity, whenthey go missing the LR3s body and frame flex, to the point his doors would not fit into the holes where they use to be, I personaly helped him try to get them in...the body was crocked.

And by the way a bunch of cars frame flexthey just return to normal afterwords, look at the old Scouts for example

  • You are mistaken the LR did not use the Explorer chassis ever. LR did use the same V6 motor as the Explorer for their petrol versions, perhaps your getting the two things mixed up?

As for missing doors do you think if a 4 door LC went doorless it would permanently buckle the chassis? Presumably not. Four door Series and Defenders do not require doors or even a roof to maintain structural integrity.

Why would it be any different in a LR3?

  • the LR3 used a V8 petrol. It was build off of the same chassis, get on a rover board and ask for yourself.

And no as I said before I wheel my 06 105 series at Moab for the whole week and had no trouble putting my doors back on, the Cruiser is FAR superior in design and strength. And for your other question the LR3 and defender are built for entirely different purposes.

  • I have done just that (Dicso3 forum UK) the LR does not use the Explorer chassis.

As for the door story watch?v=SWepa1vq09U

Entirely different purposes? they are all 4wd's. Toyo far superior and design and strength?

The LR has the same type ladder chassis as the Toyo combined with a monocoque chassis. More like Toyo is less strong and not near well designed as the LR.

  • once again its on the explorer chassis. That video you sent me is weak, any vehicle can do that, however when the doors are not on the vehicle even the slightest 1/8 of an inch will throw the door fitment off, when Thad took his LR3 out there he tryed taking all 4 doors off, he wheeled his rig ALOT harder than that video you sent me showed, Thads doors did not fit back on, if you dont beleive me then I suggest you come wheel with me, seriously if you ever go to Moab let me know.W'ell go doorless

  • Comment removed

  • no its a fun place to wheel, every time I travel to the US I go there, you still dont understand what im saying...which is in that video when the guy drove with doors on and opened the doors its under little stress compared to actually wheeling all week long with all doors off, to where the vehicle is under constant stress. Do you even wheel your rig? (my guess is no)

  • I am a D3 owner and have had a Toy. FJ 40 in the past and like Landcruisers.

    But I have some questions.

1 You bought your Toy in the US but you don't live there as you say "every time I travel to the US I go there". Where do you live?

  • 2 Series 105 also called customwagons. I think you have some serious sill protectors otherwise you will never be able to close you doors again. We had a customwagon stuck in the Netherlands I used my airjack to get something under the tyres. I placed it under the drivers side sill and the drivers door was open. As soon as the airjack started filling you saw the body twisting. We stopped directely. The door still closed afterwards but not as designed. Customwagon bodys aren't that strong.

  • 3 Taking the doors off a D3. Did you rely help with that?

Did the D3 give any alarms after starting up?

How did you get the wirering from the door loose? please don't say simply unclip it as it is not that simple.

  • I did help, not the whole time but the initial project, he had to trick his "EAS(i think he called it)" through the computer to get it to stay in off road mode. One problem I know he had was it kept thinking it was on unlevel ground when it wasnt so it sat cattywampus the whole trip. He made the quick disconnects, i only saw them.Thads a very good mechanic who knows alot about the rovers I bet he can do about anything with them electronically.

  • Im talking about the Land Cruiser 105 series.

  • Which was never sold in the US and, in fact, not legal in the US.....you're just embarassing yourself.

  • your correct they dont have many things that are required by law. However it doesnt make them impossible to get, for example it took me over a year of pulling strings to get my 105 over in the US, I did it legally through a mate of mine who owns a Toy dealership, I purchased it through him, he acted as my broker, he can get anything Toy makes from over seas and have it brought over, whether it be for a demo truck or a SPW, I got mine through SPW.

  • I live between Oz, South Africa, and the US, I own 13 Land Cruisers and some are in each country.

  • Does your neighbour have a picture of what happened? Im sure that would clear up any possible misunderstandings.

Do I wheel? What else would i do with my series, race them?

  • This is verbatim from (brandchannel com)

"Rumor has it that when Ford acquired Land Rover from BMW in 2000, it wanted to build the new LR3 around the same Ford 150 truck chassis that the Ford Explorers and Expeditions are built on. The folks at Land Rover thankfully declined the suggestion. They wanted to re-design the Discovery from the ground up and base it on the Jaguar engine (also Ford owned).

Rover message board corroborates (Disco3 co uk forum)

    Are we done here?

  • How did you get a 105 series cruiser in the US? Secondly, an open door on the LR3 disables the air-suspension - wth would anyone take the doors off? I smell BS.

  • I am in the process of a soft top for my 105, I take the doors off often, its breezy and noone else does it. Plus in America noone knows what a 105 series is, and its fun watching peoples reactions when I bring out my 105. BTW I actually bought my 06 105 series from a Toyota dealership in the US, has turbo diesl, 5 sp, factory snorkle and lockers. Its the deffinition of Beast, I need to make a video when I finish my soft top idea

  • You're completely wrong. The LR3 chassis is not even related to the Explorer's, let alone the same!!

In addition, the LR3 body is monocoque - probably stiffer than most other SUVs on its own, before being bolted to the frame.

Despite being older, the LR3 has a stiffer and stronger chassis than the latest Landcruiser 200 series. It also has more wheel travel.

  • No it isnt. Ford wanted them to use the F 150 truck chassis but Land rover declined.

  • my LR3 + me = :D:D:D:D:D

  • Looks good, only take a look at the thin wire on the crane lifting the whole lot !! Come on Landrover if your going to do a stunt make it a good one.

Mind you I've just got my Disco 3 !!!! and yes I do love it and all that LR stands for

  • good i just got one

  • EPIC.

  • Must admit it's a silly comercial.

  • amazing car!

  • Great commercial and great for Land Rover.

This is a real test of LR quality. Thanks to make something like this.

  • Espectacular... Sin Comentarios

  • And even dumber for adding a comment? By God, how dumb!

  • What's the Music? I love it!

  • wait...

what was the point of that?

    ...i didn't get it

  • The point was to show how strong the chassis on the discovery 3 is:)

  • would be better if they show it offroad capabilitis then that.. after all thats what im inteded to do.. offroad.. not some fucking lifting.. damn

  • now what would have been impressive and more relevant was if you attatched the 3 cars and the frame to the towbar and used a big winch to haul the whole lot up1

wheres my local multi story car park!!!

  • bye bye landrover uk .. hello india! LOL

    >_>

  • you know how much people they could have fed in africa with this stupid commercial

  • People can't eat commercials

  • I like range rovers/land rovers but geez... what's the deal with the dramatic music? This wasn't so impressive that it deserved the music. It's like rubbing your crotch in slow-mo and putting dramatic music to it makes it more spectacular. But it would be cool if that guy would narrate a video like that. "Nobody has ever rubbed a crotch so vigorously ever before. Let's see if it can take it.... AMAZING." (Cue the music)

  • Wow! Land Rover Rules!!! Now I now what car to buy!!! Woooohoooo!!!

  • Germany Cars are the best :)

  • LAND ROVER DISCO 3 The best 4x4 by FAR

  • lets see a santa fe do that...crappy hyundai

  • no additonal bracing added ,yea right so whats all that red steel bolted to the underside then ?

Come on LR show us what it can take as it would be driven striaght from the show room !

    Impresive yes suprised no !

  • looks like red steel is just the attachment point. Not a brace. Look at shot of underside.

  • looks more like they are spreading the load across as much of the chassis as possable. after all only a very short section of the chassis has been left unbraced, maybee they know the stock recovery/towing points arn't up to the job.

By spreading the load like that you could lift what ever you like and not kill it.Show us the same trick using just the stock towing and recovery points and i will shut up !

  • more like you guys cant afford one so u try to bash it

  • needs a strong chassis because the rest of it is made from recycled alloy, put it on gas and you will have a coke can on wheels. see what happens when you drop it. the chassis would be the only thing left. POP fizzz !!!! Cheers

  • What a waste of money

You could do the same thing with a piece of 6mm box steel. but, bolt them to both ends and lift it then we will see what happens

  • shut up you tart

  • MATE I OWN A LAND ROVER ITS JUST SIMPLE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING COME ON DUDE ANYTHING PUT ON ITS END WILL HOLD 4x ITS OWN WEIGHT TAKE AN EGG PLACE SOMETHING ON ITS SIDE AND YOU WILL CRACK IT BUT PLACE IT ON ITS END AND NOTHING WILL BRAKE UNLESS PRESSURE IS APPLYED

  • welll this car dose it better

  • If they did the same to one of the competitor's suv and it failed, then I would be impressed w/ rover. I think they all would have performed the same.

  • through the chassis on the longitudinal axis. Big fucking deal.

  • woah lol that was amazing

  • bunch of retards ,it proves how strong the chassis/integrated bodyframe is .....its true you can't educate pork.Don't mock what you do not understand, try a little education.

  • it proves it has a strong chassis. Don't hate. you can still love your own truck.

  • that means nothing its proves no point

  • lol the chasis is strongened

  • thick git don't you mean chassis and strengthened

  • this proves nothing i bet the check engine light came on after this.

  • bang! and the dirt is gone!

  • um lincoln mkz is so much better! =D

  • like it has a chassis! LOL!

  • lol i only said it cause my friend has this car, and i have a mkz lol

  • a really love range rovers and land rovers

  • Actually i was in an accident on the M40 with a crane and some other 4x4s and we ended up exactly like this but also with a Rav4 and a Fiat Uno dangling as well.

  • Wow... and they say manufacturers don't make ads which make fun of their competitors anymore!

  • I think he says 50 meters not 15 meters.

  • Outrageous video-I like it! Three cheers for the Green Oval!

  • Fantastic!

Does anyone know the artist/song used in this? I've been trying to find it for ages.

  • I have one.

  • and have u pulled the 3 germans suve yet ? lolol

  • the best and so is teh car !!!!!!!!
