Kimmpressive simple outplayed Serena. At every aspect of the game. Period. The really sad thing is Serena knew she was going to lose and had to make the match about her, like always. She took away the spotlight from Kim\s return and made an ignorant fool out of herself, which caused a 2 year probation period. Kim will always be a class act, unlike Serena who went on to personally attack an Umpire for a right call, yet again.
@GarvenRolah I don't think you have too much room to talk about someone who has already achieved more success than you'll ever think of achieving. Anywhere.
Kim won only since Serena played a bad match. Nobody in the World other than Venus on grass or Henin on clay can touch an in form Serena. Credit to Kim for playing outstandingly enough to take advantage of a bad Serena.
@serenakicksass That's the problem with Serena fans and with Serena herself. They and Serena can't give credit to anyone who defeats her as if the other player had nothing to do with her loss (it was all because Serena wasn't playing well lol). Serena was playing just fine here, but Kim just happened to play better, that's all. Kim has high standards as well, as do all tennis players, not just Serena.
@serenakicksass hahahahahahahahh keep lying to urself! kim was too much for serena in that match, williams didnt play bad ;) it was kim the dominant player.
@Oopstoobad6275 not the only difference - kim has class, maturity and manners. serena is an embarrassment too herself and america. she's a classless bitch! no actually she is a CUNT!

I just think Serena was just very out of sorts when they played this match. Obviously she was really nervous and this match was just unfortunately doomed from the start, IMO. I don't think Serena Williams acted appropiately in any way at all and she deserved to be punished. Having said that, I'm not about to stop being a fan of hers just because she makes a big mistake.
@Bhraihh She should coz it's not Kim's fault that she got penalized. Kim was just battling her in the opposite side of the court and nothing less than that:)
Serena committed many "crimes" on tour thoughout her career, but no one dare put her on trial for real as fear for her race card. Crime No.1: her notorious on-court behavours really are disgusting and should be punished. She got away with it again and again and clearly she learned nothing. Crime No.2 for messing up the ranking system, which manipulate/lead the media to find other reasons to blame (C-Woz, Safina, Jankovic etc) while clearly she's the culprit all along.
I think the obvious problem on the WTA is there is no woman right now that can WIN slams and WTA events. And when I mean WIN slams I mean a multiple slam champion. This is the reason why there is so much parity at the top of women`s tennis. Wozniacki is number one due to consistency BUT she`s proven she lacks the mental toughness and the weapons to win slams. Perhaps Caroline will win a slam by chance but right now i don`t see it happening.
@JordanjamesX That is not the problem because there are still few tennis players on the WTA that are capable of doing that or already have done that, but they've been injured.
This shows that the saddest thing about Serena's outburst was that both women played AMAZING tennis that match, but that's not what anyone will remember...
Whether it was a foot fault or not, there was absolutely no reason for Serena to go over and threaten the line judge like that. It just shows bad sportsmanship. And honestly Kim deserved to win this match anyways. She played superb.
I believe Kim would have won it anyway as well. And she must have foot faulted otherwise why the woman would call it? The sisters are like that! Venus was beaten by Kim and Serena wanted revenge. From the start of the match Serena's reaction is over the top.As the match didn't go her way she got more and more upset.Sad looser.
Simply: Kim played a better match than serena, williams tried to overpower kim but she couldn´t cause Kim can handle serena´s power and generate more power in reply...
@susceotible hahahahahahaha! serena wasn´t disqualified! she was penalized u asshole! the point gave kim the match, ahhaha try to accept kim was superior that day ;)
@daniolitheone I dont care whether its disqualified penalized whatever. The point is we could never know what might happened if those two point werent penalized.
@susceotible ONLY ONE POINT WAS PENALIZED! r u idiot or what? :| , the penalized point was the one that gave kim the match! serena made a double fault by making a foot fault on her second serve, c´mon, accept kim was better, u´ll be quieter if u do ;)
@daniolitheone serena Said On her Guesting at TYRA BANKS show that when they saw the replay it wasnt really a foot fault and in that case it caused her to an OUTBURST!! and that was 2 points that was given to kim,we dont really know wat will happen if that points werent given to kim.
@WielkiHrabia Are you crazy Clijsters played a great match and redirected the ball beautifully throughout the entire match. Serena played well too, Clijsters just won thats all. I also wouldn't say a 50% Clijsters is better than a 100% Serena. Maybe you should check their head to head.
@AFCompany Clijsters beat S. Williams twice in her second career. in 2010 she was the best hard court player ever. williams beat clijsters long time ago, when clijsters wasn't great.
@WielkiHrabia in her second career? You mean when she came out of retirement? Well Serena beat her 7 times in her career, and at the end when its all said and done Serena will lead their head to head regardless of when any match took place. And Clijsters was a great player before she retired she had 1 slam and like 3 slam finals. Stop making excuses for her she is a great player she was just a choker before and now shes not. Best hard court player ever? I don't think so.
@WielkiHrabia Im just saying a 50% Clijsters is not better then a 100% Serena. Thats just a really dumb thing to say. A 100% Serena can beat anybody on tour, maybe even Nadal lol jk.
@AFCompany in 2009 serena has won wimbledon and australian. That isn't her 100%? in us open she hasn't got any injuries. Clijsters just was too good for williams in her best.
@WielkiHrabia neither played well but I think you got your names mixed up there. After all, Serena leads their head to head 7-2....... speaks volumes kid
serena lost this match by not getting to the net on some of well place balls, and how many times she hit the ball right back at kim when she had the upper hand.
Kim participant well because serena did the same patterns of where she was placing her shots, same pace on every ball. serena game has change alot, but on this day she was ball basher. she was trying to hit Kim off the court, as u can see epic fail. next time they meet which can't come soon enough, i think we see a better clear mind sw.
@mekkapoo agree, serena plays ball basher when she face opponent like maria sharapova and it works, because maria doesn't have good foot speed like kim's..against kim and player like jankovic she needs to rally every point
now i remember why i don't like serena. it was this match. i knew it really bother me when i first saw it but now that i see it again i'm annoyed all over again. i know if i was in the crowd i would be one of the ones booing. kim didn't even get to lay that final hammer down. i wonder if she ever took any anger management classes after that. and she kind of made people think all black women are angry like her which is a shame.
@OkUrRight You act as if you have never lost your temper before. Get over it, everyone gets mad that doesn't mean you need anger management though. And Serena did apologize to Clijsters telling her she played a great match, they are both very close friends even still today. The lines woman shouldn't have made that call at that point in the match. Any player would have reacted this way. They work their wholes lives for these moments and to have a footfault take it away is angering.
@AFCompany i have never lost my temper to that extreme. no where near that. plus losing your temper to that extreme for an error you caused shouldn't result in yout telling someone you are gonna to do harm to them for doing there job. it's also possible that serena was just mad that she was getting beat by kim when she thought she was teh better player the lines woman did her job. it shouldn't matter what point it is. they have them there for a reason.
@OkUrRight Im just saying Ive seen way worst from other players on tennis courts it just seems the Williams are always the ones who can't be forgiven. I kind of think her being cheated in 04 was fueling her rant. In 04 she handled that with such grace and class but this just got under her skin and she thought she was being cheated again. Kim and Serena like each other though so there was no real problem between them two. However I think Kim and Venus hate each other. Idk why.
@AFCompany Ive never lost my temper to that extreme either, but Im not a professional athlete. I mean I can understand her frustration I think its more so the fact that this is tennis is what is making it such a big deal. Had this been hockey or football you wouldn't think twice about it. Ya the lines people are there for a reason but its sort of an unwritten rule you don't make calls like that in the last game of the match. Especially when its not a clear footfault. I like your username lol.
i wonder what is your dream TOP 10 of the present? this is mine: 1.Serena Williams-the best player of this era 2.Petra Kvitova-so strong and powerful shots 3.Kim Clijsters-great player, nice person 4.Li Na-smooth game, funny interviews :-) 5.Maria Sharapova-yeah... she belongs here 6.Francesca Schiavone-pleasure to watch her 7.Venus Williams-legend! 8.Daniela Hantuchova-graceful, clever shots 9.Svetlana Kuznetsova-2 grandslams 10.Agnieszka Radwanska-young, clever player Yours? and be realistic
This was a great match up until the "foot fault". I personally believe that we were about to witness another Serena comeback. Lol. But we'll never know for sure.
Thats a fun thing being a Kim fan, u get to see all the haters get bothered so much by her winning,, they her videos to talk trash, its hillarious, the fact that they do that only shows how sad they r, and i love it!
Call me old-fashion, but I'd rather watch this match over & over than watching any current match now. Women's tennis used to be so interesting with the tour filled with Williamses, Davenport, Henin, Kim, Maria, Amelie, Dementieva, Capriati etc, but all of them now are either retired or in decline due to their age and injury. Maria is the only one left, but she can't carry the tour alone. We're now forced to see second fiddles like Li Na, Kvitova, Schiavone, Azarenka fighting 2 win slams? Bleh!
@susceotible I don't think you should take Serena's opinions seriously since she was just being nice as asked of her opinions on Azarenka by reporters. She got nothing else to say except giving compliments. I personally don't see Azrenka more of any threat at all. She's a fine player but doesn't have a gift to be champion. Kvitova is the most talented young guns who can hit a lot of winners and has great serves. Azarenka seems average in all aspects compared to Kvitova, but she's still developin
@susceotible AdvertChild98 seems to have vision problems if he/she doesn't see the huge talent in players like Li Na, Kvitova and Azarenka (although I can't stand the noise) and. While I miss Davenport, Martina Hingis and Dementiava, and will eventually hate to see the demise of the Williams' sisters, there are still women out there who can play.
@AdvertChild98 I agree with you. But I think you shouldn't underestimate Li Na, she would have been a Grand Slam champion way before, if she hadn't been injured a lot in her early career. And Kvitova looks really great to me, though she should work on her mental toughness, physical ability and consistency.
@orbitalwarrior Im not underrestimating Li Na or Kvitova, they've done great but Im just not convinced how advanced they are considering they are playing in such a weak era where high-quality former champions like Kim and Williamese are sidelined by inuries & aging, neither ladies had gone through beating any active former champions to win their slams which is highly unusual in women's tennis history. Maria is still lackluster compared to her former self so being able to beat her is meaningless
@AdvertChild98 I understand. I still was surprised Maria didn't win. She's not that fierce anymore. I'd love to see Vaidisova come back, I thought she was so great :o! if she could have changed her mental game, she would have been such a champion.
@orbitalwarrior Valdisova was a fine player, she really had a great forehand, but still she seems to be lacking a special gift to beat the Belgians and the Williamsese. But of course we would never know cuz she already retired. Maria is working hard to improve herself, but what left for her after the surgery is power. She has totally lost her fighting spirit, which formerly earned her 3 slams and plenty of semi-finals.
she really didnt foot fault.. there really is something suspicious about serena's matches at the us open... like the one with capriati in it... line calls saying a lot of her shots were out but when seen with shot spot it was in. the umpire didnt even look interested at serena when she was pleading her case. new york italian mafia or just plain old fashioned racism? anyone?
@89Pleasek Haha, and the same question has I asked myself over and over again. Watching Wozniacki against Serena this other day... Caroline wasn't able to push the first winner shot before late in the second set, when the match more or less was done. And this represent the best player in the wta tour. Not a good sign for the female tennis. :-)
I have to admit, it's kinda set. It's a perfect set up for Wozniacki to be number 1 at the moment with the biggest tournament victories being spread all over the place. We had Clijsters (injured all year),Li (has done nothing since the FO), Kvitova (in a slump?) and now Stosur being major winners this year. The difference between the 10th player in the world in terms of ranking points and Wozniacki (who is no 1)is rather small.Nobody can come up with a string of good results to challenge the no 1
@laaarsn It's not Caroline Wozniacki's fault to be world #1. WTA & ATP should revise the ranking system and give extremely big points on grand slam wins. So those who won a Grand Slam but are not consistent enough or are injured to play on premier level tournaments would still be #1 and represent what we all expect of the best player in the wta tour. Wozniacki admits that she still needs a lot of things to improve on her game and she's willing to work hard on it. She's only 22.
@supersanzrival The present WTA ranking system is fine. Grand slams have already given winners the most points. If players follow the rules & play enough required events of the year, that should indicate who is No.1 accurately. Like Martina N. said: in the old days, If someone was No.1, she stayed there. I think I agree. The real problem is nowadays the true No.1s refuse or unable to play full time, which mess up the system. And the hardworking No.1s inherit the throne by luck got blamed for it
@supersanzrival Also I don't think it's fair to give GS ridiculous big points since that would make ppl think tennis only exists on GS. if that person was injuried, it would b unrealistic to let her remain No.1 cause tennis always moving on. Personally I don't think there's much need to be done to improve the ranking system if the talented players who are capable of winning multi-slams refuse to play enough matches throughout the year. Even given monsterous points they would still waste it.
@AdvertChild98 i'm directing my point towards people who's saying that "the real no.1" is this player & that player. That the real no.1 player in the world should've have won a grand slam. So for those people who thinks this way, then they should blame the wta ranking system.
I think if you want the no.1 player in the world, you just don't select few tournaments & win as many grand slams as you want. It just doesn't sound fair to the fans around the world & to other wta players.
@supersanzrival I agree with you most of the points, except I don't think the ranking system is at fault. As I said iIt worked perfectly well in the old days, but now we start questioning it only because a certain arrogant player such as Serena refuses to play by the rules. She had a chance to retake the No.1 spot from 07 - 10, but she would rather select tournaments to play and kept losing in small matches to suit her ego. It would be unfair for the system got blamed for her mistakes.
@pianomaestro2514 I don't see you talking about Andy Roddick's disgraceful behaviour at the US Open last year? I believe Roddick should have gotten fined BUT since Roddick is a white American male he can do whatever he wants and still get away with it. It is total different double standards for blacks and whites in tennis.
Don't get me wrong for this, but did she really foot fault? I was looking at the slow motion replay and I'm not too sure, can someone tell me please? :D thanks.
@ilovepoo122 whether she did foot fault or not it doesn't matter, she has no right to shout at lines person. She still didn't change and done something similar this years US open final. She should learn something from her sister about how to behave on and off court.
this was really inappropiate by serena, she shouldn't have done nor said anything it that way, she a very good player and I was really disappointed here. you could see the anxiety in the lineswoman's eyes and I really feel sorry for her. I hope that serena will pull herself together the next time. anyways congratz to clijsters.
i love how all of you can relate so well to the pressure of playing a semifinal in front of a million viewers and knowing you got what we all got to see was a bad call... people act like she threw a racket at this woman.
I love serena she is my favorite player ever but thumbz up to kim for beating her so sorry for serena an the BIG incident she had with the lines judge but its 2011 now so maybe they can square off in another final an get well serena tennis needs u
I like Serena but even I have to admit she needed to keep her nerve in this match. Maybe Clijsters would of have gotten tight if she had gotten the match into a third set I guess. But I give Kim a lot of credit I think Serena underestimated Kim and thought she would just steam roll her. Serena did not realize that Kim is a different player than the past. Clijsters is much more mentally tough and more determined player. It seems now that Kim is living up to her potential.
@kiran2914 Clijsters is great, but she isn't a legend.
And I love kim, but she needs more wins to be a "legend".......Serena is a legend, and so is Venus too actually, slightly a little more over Henin despite Justine winning the French and having as many Grand Slams (at the moment).
@TWDtv Kim has made history, and will be a legend for winning more slams after her pregnancy than before. Besides, Kim is a great player, won 4 slams; 3 masters and a lot of other (big) tournaments. Off course she's not the best player ever, but she will be remembered forever, for her sportsmanship, athleticism and her amazing split :) For Venus, I feel like she will always be in the shadow of Serena, unfortunately.
@orbitalwarrior But Kim will be in the shadow of Serena too, as well as everyone else.
Kim should have beaten Justine more in the old days, but she was just mental fragile in the big moments. She played exactly how Graf would play in modern times against Serena (and an in form Venus) without the mental calmness required to win match point against them in the Grand Slams until the '09 US Open.
@TWDtv That's true. I think it would have made such a huge difference if she'd won the 2001 French or 2003 French. After those two finals she got soooo tight, losing to Justine over and over again. But I'm glad that she's found the calmness in her second career. I'm not sure though if she'll get to her toplevel again after the injuries. Let's hope she does!
@pianomaestro2514 How do you feel about Henin, McEnroe, Sampras, Roddick, Zvonereva, and others I can't think of now? Yes, it was wrong, but she's human, it was an intense moment (lots of money and history on the line) and she apologized. We all make mistakes, and you have to learn to forgive people, and not be so judgmental. Do you even think about all the charity work she does in Africa, or does that not matter because she freaked out?
thank u for someone who cares an understands the emotion an humannity of a human being jus getting angered, wow other tennis players get mad an u understand out of so many people who dont that serena williams is just a human just as kim or henin or me or u were gonna get angry an u right about the charity work an history its a lot on the line of players shoulder
@5000futuristic Being "angry" and "human" is fine. Threatening to kill someone is a criminal offence. And yes that lines woman was freaked out. And YES that lines woman could have had Serena arrested and formally charged. It could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. It's all on tape right here.
First of all Serena did get charged for the words i beleive about 80 something grand, And a few words wont get u arrested there's a slight chance of that happening, if she did hit the lady then there she would hav got arrested an charged. And im not saying what she did was ok, but she poorly managed her temper which got her in trouble, we all hav a way of getting angry, an most ways worst than serena, but this happen in 2009 she is a much better player now an she HAS learned from this
@89Pleasek Wozniacki is an all around very good tennis player. She hasn't cracked a grand slam yet. Serena at one point said she wasn't ranked #1 in the world but she was the best in the world and it stood true. Wozniacki is still ranked #1 in the world, but experts say the best player in the world is Kim Clijsters as Serena isn't around. Kim is a very good match to Serena. I'm not a Serena's fan in anyway. She's too cocky for me but to be fair to her and the sport tennis really needs her.
It was a good match up until 4-4. Kim thinks she's a bad ass now but this was only the second time she has beaten Serena. Serena leads 7-2. We all know who's boss here.
@criskomg That was the last time they had played until this final. Not Serena's fault she hadn't beaten her in a while. And Serena won her first slam at 17, so I don't think being 20 is a disadvantage.
@TheFever77 Clijsters gave away two matches against Serena, '99 US Open, '03 Australian Open and there were two matches ('01 Indian Wells '02 Tokyo) where Kim gave away a first set advantage. It's a much tighter match-up than the head-to-head suggests; and Serena knows that as well. Take in the '99 and '03 matches, it would have been 5-4. And Clijsters has the edge over Venus. Off course, Serena has got a lot more slams, but still the belgians were the only real competition for Williams sisters.
@orbitalwarrior I would never deny that the Belgians weren't fierce competition for the Williams sisters, but in tennis, almost doesn't count. Some of the matches have been close, but Venus (and more so) Serena's mental fortitude has got them through. When you see Serena on the other side of the net, no matter who you are you see a woman who wants it that little bit more than you do. She has an iron will. Justine recently said that she never met someone as mentally tough as Serena.
@TheFever77 Serena's will to win is obviously phenomenal. But I just felt like you were very negative towards Kim in yourcomment "feels like she is a badass, everyone knows who the boss is". Kim also said recently that she believes Serena is the greatest player of the modern game, so Kim definetely doesn't feel like a badass.
Clijsters is so sexy :D

I believe Kim would have won it anyway as well. And she must have foot faulted otherwise why the woman would call it? The sisters are like that! Venus was beaten by Kim and Serena wanted revenge. From the start of the match Serena's reaction is over the top.As the match didn't go her way she got more and more upset.Sad looser.
paulinolondon 5 months ago 4
KIM WOULD OF WON anyways, my opinion!
Gaahbbriel 5 months ago
Simply: Kim played a better match than serena, williams tried to overpower kim but she couldn´t cause Kim can handle serena´s power and generate more power in reply...

@daniolitheone Serena would have definitely beat kim if she werent disqualified from the match.

@susceotible hahahahahahaha! serena wasn´t disqualified! she was penalized u asshole! the point gave kim the match, ahhaha try to accept kim was superior that day ;)

@daniolitheone I dont care whether its disqualified penalized whatever. The point is we could never know what might happened if those two point werent penalized.
susceotible 1 month ago
@susceotible ONLY ONE POINT WAS PENALIZED! r u idiot or what? :| , the penalized point was the one that gave kim the match! serena made a double fault by making a foot fault on her second serve, c´mon, accept kim was better, u´ll be quieter if u do ;)
daniolitheone 1 month ago 2
@daniolitheone Whatever it is. Serena has won 13 grand slam and kim 4 gs. Serena is better, period.

It was really bad match for clijsters, but her 50% is better than 100% williams.
WielkiHrabia 6 months ago
@WielkiHrabia Are you crazy Clijsters played a great match and redirected the ball beautifully throughout the entire match. Serena played well too, Clijsters just won thats all. I also wouldn't say a 50% Clijsters is better than a 100% Serena. Maybe you should check their head to head.
AFCompany 5 months ago
@AFCompany Clijsters beat S. Williams twice in her second career. in 2010 she was the best hard court player ever. williams beat clijsters long time ago, when clijsters wasn't great.
WielkiHrabia 5 months ago
@WielkiHrabia in her second career? You mean when she came out of retirement? Well Serena beat her 7 times in her career, and at the end when its all said and done Serena will lead their head to head regardless of when any match took place. And Clijsters was a great player before she retired she had 1 slam and like 3 slam finals. Stop making excuses for her she is a great player she was just a choker before and now shes not. Best hard court player ever? I don't think so.
AFCompany 5 months ago
@WielkiHrabia Im just saying a 50% Clijsters is not better then a 100% Serena. Thats just a really dumb thing to say. A 100% Serena can beat anybody on tour, maybe even Nadal lol jk.
AFCompany 5 months ago
@AFCompany in 2009 serena has won wimbledon and australian. That isn't her 100%? in us open she hasn't got any injuries. Clijsters just was too good for williams in her best.

serena lost this match by not getting to the net on some of well place balls, and how many times she hit the ball right back at kim when she had the upper hand.
Kim participant well because serena did the same patterns of where she was placing her shots, same pace on every ball. serena game has change alot, but on this day she was ball basher. she was trying to hit Kim off the court, as u can see epic fail. next time they meet which can't come soon enough, i think we see a better clear mind sw.
mekkapoo 6 months ago
@mekkapoo agree, serena plays ball basher when she face opponent like maria sharapova and it works, because maria doesn't have good foot speed like kim's..against kim and player like jankovic she needs to rally every point

now i remember why i don't like serena. it was this match. i knew it really bother me when i first saw it but now that i see it again i'm annoyed all over again. i know if i was in the crowd i would be one of the ones booing. kim didn't even get to lay that final hammer down. i wonder if she ever took any anger management classes after that. and she kind of made people think all black women are angry like her which is a shame.
OkUrRight 6 months ago
@OkUrRight You act as if you have never lost your temper before. Get over it, everyone gets mad that doesn't mean you need anger management though. And Serena did apologize to Clijsters telling her she played a great match, they are both very close friends even still today. The lines woman shouldn't have made that call at that point in the match. Any player would have reacted this way. They work their wholes lives for these moments and to have a footfault take it away is angering.
AFCompany 6 months ago
@AFCompany i have never lost my temper to that extreme. no where near that. plus losing your temper to that extreme for an error you caused shouldn't result in yout telling someone you are gonna to do harm to them for doing there job. it's also possible that serena was just mad that she was getting beat by kim when she thought she was teh better player the lines woman did her job. it shouldn't matter what point it is. they have them there for a reason.
OkUrRight 6 months ago
@OkUrRight I @ myself by accident but that last one is for you lol.
AFCompany 6 months ago
@OkUrRight Im just saying Ive seen way worst from other players on tennis courts it just seems the Williams are always the ones who can't be forgiven. I kind of think her being cheated in 04 was fueling her rant. In 04 she handled that with such grace and class but this just got under her skin and she thought she was being cheated again. Kim and Serena like each other though so there was no real problem between them two. However I think Kim and Venus hate each other. Idk why.
AFCompany 6 months ago
@AFCompany Ive never lost my temper to that extreme either, but Im not a professional athlete. I mean I can understand her frustration I think its more so the fact that this is tennis is what is making it such a big deal. Had this been hockey or football you wouldn't think twice about it. Ya the lines people are there for a reason but its sort of an unwritten rule you don't make calls like that in the last game of the match. Especially when its not a clear footfault. I like your username lol.

Bleh!
AdvertChild98 8 months ago 26
@AdvertChild98 I do find something special in azarenka games. Even serena praises her and see potential. What do you think?
susceotible 7 months ago
@susceotible I don't think you should take Serena's opinions seriously since she was just being nice as asked of her opinions on Azarenka by reporters. She got nothing else to say except giving compliments. I personally don't see Azrenka more of any threat at all. She's a fine player but doesn't have a gift to be champion. Kvitova is the most talented young guns who can hit a lot of winners and has great serves. Azarenka seems average in all aspects compared to Kvitova, but she's still developin
AdvertChild98 7 months ago
@susceotible AdvertChild98 seems to have vision problems if he/she doesn't see the huge talent in players like Li Na, Kvitova and Azarenka (although I can't stand the noise) and. While I miss Davenport, Martina Hingis and Dementiava, and will eventually hate to see the demise of the Williams' sisters, there are still women out there who can play.
ifluvinguiswrong 1 week ago
@AdvertChild98 Yes, especially Dementieva's matches were always full of emotions:) I loved watching her matches!:)
Kordoh 7 months ago
@AdvertChild98 I agree with you. But I think you shouldn't underestimate Li Na, she would have been a Grand Slam champion way before, if she hadn't been injured a lot in her early career. And Kvitova looks really great to me, though she should work on her mental toughness, physical ability and consistency.
orbitalwarrior 7 months ago
@orbitalwarrior Im not underrestimating Li Na or Kvitova, they've done great but Im just not convinced how advanced they are considering they are playing in such a weak era where high-quality former champions like Kim and Williamese are sidelined by inuries & aging, neither ladies had gone through beating any active former champions to win their slams which is highly unusual in women's tennis history. Maria is still lackluster compared to her former self so being able to beat her is meaningless
AdvertChild98 7 months ago
@AdvertChild98 I understand. I still was surprised Maria didn't win. She's not that fierce anymore. I'd love to see Vaidisova come back, I thought she was so great :o! if she could have changed her mental game, she would have been such a champion.
orbitalwarrior 7 months ago
@orbitalwarrior Valdisova was a fine player, she really had a great forehand, but still she seems to be lacking a special gift to beat the Belgians and the Williamsese. But of course we would never know cuz she already retired. Maria is working hard to improve herself, but what left for her after the surgery is power. She has totally lost her fighting spirit, which formerly earned her 3 slams and plenty of semi-finals.

EdMajinLee199999 5 months ago
@89Pleasek Haha, and the same question has I asked myself over and over again. Watching Wozniacki against Serena this other day... Caroline wasn't able to push the first winner shot before late in the second set, when the match more or less was done. And this represent the best player in the wta tour. Not a good sign for the female tennis. :-)
laaarsn 5 months ago
I have to admit, it's kinda set. It's a perfect set up for Wozniacki to be number 1 at the moment with the biggest tournament victories being spread all over the place. We had Clijsters (injured all year),Li (has done nothing since the FO), Kvitova (in a slump?) and now Stosur being major winners this year. The difference between the 10th player in the world in terms of ranking points and Wozniacki (who is no 1)is rather small.Nobody can come up with a string of good results to challenge the no 1
89Pleasek 5 months ago
@laaarsn It's not Caroline Wozniacki's fault to be world #1. WTA & ATP should revise the ranking system and give extremely big points on grand slam wins. So those who won a Grand Slam but are not consistent enough or are injured to play on premier level tournaments would still be #1 and represent what we all expect of the best player in the wta tour. Wozniacki admits that she still needs a lot of things to improve on her game and she's willing to work hard on it. She's only 22.
supersanzrival 5 months ago
@supersanzrival The present WTA ranking system is fine. Grand slams have already given winners the most points. If players follow the rules & play enough required events of the year, that should indicate who is No.1 accurately. Like Martina N. said: in the old days, If someone was No.1, she stayed there. I think I agree. The real problem is nowadays the true No.1s refuse or unable to play full time, which mess up the system. And the hardworking No.1s inherit the throne by luck got blamed for it
AdvertChild98 2 months ago
@supersanzrival Also I don't think it's fair to give GS ridiculous big points since that would make ppl think tennis only exists on GS. if that person was injuried, it would b unrealistic to let her remain No.1 cause tennis always moving on. Personally I don't think there's much need to be done to improve the ranking system if the talented players who are capable of winning multi-slams refuse to play enough matches throughout the year. Even given monsterous points they would still waste it.
AdvertChild98 2 months ago
@AdvertChild98 i'm directing my point towards people who's saying that "the real no.1" is this player & that player. That the real no.1 player in the world should've have won a grand slam. So for those people who thinks this way, then they should blame the wta ranking system.
I think if you want the no.1 player in the world, you just don't select few tournaments & win as many grand slams as you want. It just doesn't sound fair to the fans around the world & to other wta players.
supersanzrival 2 months ago
@supersanzrival I agree with you most of the points, except I don't think the ranking system is at fault. As I said iIt worked perfectly well in the old days, but now we start questioning it only because a certain arrogant player such as Serena refuses to play by the rules. She had a chance to retake the No.1 spot from 07 - 10, but she would rather select tournaments to play and kept losing in small matches to suit her ego. It would be unfair for the system got blamed for her mistakes.
AdvertChild98 2 months ago
@AdvertChild98 Exactly.. can't agree more.

@pianomaestro2514 I don't see you talking about Andy Roddick's disgraceful behaviour at the US Open last year? I like Serena but even I have to admit she needed to keep her nerve in this match. Maybe Clijsters would of have gotten tight if she had gotten the match into a third set I guess. But I give Kim a lot of credit I think Serena underestimated Kim and thought she would just steam roll her. Serena did not realize that Kim is a different player than the past. Clijsters is much more mentally tough and more determined player. It seems now that Kim is living up to her potential.

kiran2914 10 months ago
@kiran2914 Clijsters is great, but she isn't a legend.
And I love kim, but she needs more wins to be a "legend".......Serena is a legend, and so is Venus too actually, slightly a little more over Henin despite Justine winning the French and having as many Grand Slams (at the moment).
TWDtv 7 months ago
@TWDtv Kim has made history, and will be a legend for winning more slams after her pregnancy than before. Besides, Kim is a great player, won 4 slams; 3 masters and a lot of other (big) tournaments. Off course she's not the best player ever, but she will be remembered forever, for her sportsmanship, athleticism and her amazing split :) For Venus, I feel like she will always be in the shadow of Serena, unfortunately.
orbitalwarrior 7 months ago
@orbitalwarrior But Kim will be in the shadow of Serena too, as well as everyone else.
Kim should have beaten Justine more in the old days, but she was just mental fragile in the big moments. She played exactly how Graf would play in modern times against Serena (and an in form Venus) without the mental calmness required to win match point against them in the Grand Slams until the '09 US Open.
TWDtv 7 months ago
@TWDtv That's true. I think it would have made such a huge difference if she'd won the 2001 French or 2003 French. After those two finals she got soooo tight, losing to Justine over and over again. But I'm glad that she's found the calmness in her second career. I'm not sure though if she'll get to her toplevel again after the injuries. Let's hope she does!
orbitalwarrior 7 months ago
@pianomaestro2514 How do you feel about Henin, McEnroe, Sampras, Roddick, Zvonereva, and others I can't think of now? Yes, it was wrong, but she's human, it was an intense moment (lots of money and history on the line) and she apologized. We all make mistakes, and you have to learn to forgive people, and not be so judgmental. Do you even think about all the charity work she does in Africa, or does that not matter because she freaked out?
Leomerya12 10 months ago
thank u for someone who cares an understands the emotion an humannity of a human being jus getting angered, wow other tennis players get mad an u understand out of so many people who dont that serena williams is just a human just as kim or henin or me or u were gonna get angry an u right about the charity work an history its a lot on the line of players shoulder

TheFever77 1 year ago
@TheFever77 Yes it 7-2 for Serena but the last victory in 28 march 2003! Clijsters was 20.
criskomg 11 months ago
@criskomg That was the last time they had played until this final. Not Serena's fault she hadn't beaten her in a while. And Serena won her first slam at 17, so I don't think being 20 is a disadvantage.
aa330 11 months ago
@TheFever77 Clijsters gave away two matches against Serena, '99 US Open, '03 Australian Open and there were two matches ('01 Indian Wells '02 Tokyo) where Kim gave away a first set advantage. It's a much tighter match-up than the head-to-head suggests; and Serena knows that as well. Take in the '99 and '03 matches, it would have been 5-4. And Clijsters has the edge over Venus. Off course, Serena has got a lot more slams, but still the belgians were the only real competition for Williams sisters.
orbitalwarrior 10 months ago
@orbitalwarrior I would never deny that the Belgians weren't fierce competition for the Williams sisters, but in tennis, almost doesn't count. Some of the matches have been close, but Venus (and more so) Serena's mental fortitude has got them through. When you see Serena on the other side of the net, no matter who you are you see a woman who wants it that little bit more than you do. She has an iron will. Justine recently said that she never met someone as mentally tough as Serena.
TheFever77 10 months ago 2
@TheFever77 Serena's will to win is obviously phenomenal. But I just felt like you were very negative towards Kim in yourcomment "feels like she is a badass, everyone knows who the boss is". Kim also said recently that she believes Serena is the greatest player of the modern game, so Kim definetely doesn't feel like a badass.
