yeah. I think this is just a great track. I remember being a little kid and my brother and I would beat the game and plug the gameboy into our parents big stereo and just let this play and I dunno,... we just loved it! And you could just let it go an go cuz I dont think i would end till you hit start or something. Thanks for putting this one up here!!!!
The Mini-Boss Theme from Sonic & Knuckles is a Top 10 8/16-bit song for sure. There are so many brilliant Genesis songs that should be far higher than the 20's. vyse19861 must not have grown up with the Genesis, but he should still see the brilliance of some of its music!
If I made this list today, I'm pretty sure this would be number one. In a way, it just deserves it, and it's a closing tune by nature, so it would also be a good closing tune for this list...
Y'know, I realized something. Is there any particular reason why the original Red and Blue Pokemon tracks didn't make it on here? There are some GREAT tunes in the original Pokemon. Lavender town
This actually makes me think of another point - Why nothing from the Game Boy Color? Just nothing played on it? (IIRC, Lufia III was GBC... I haven't played it either, though.) Perhaps the GBC doesn't qualify as chiptune...?
I never really liked the Pokemon soundtracks, but now that I think hard about it, I guess the arena boss music was pretty good. And I played very few GBC games, in fact I can only remember two - a version of Harvest Moon and V-Rally. Harvest Moon never had good music IMO and V-Rally had none at all. Generally though, GBC would have qualified for this list.
Also, it's a sad fact that all Lufia games except Lufia II are pretty bad.
Huh? I think you can easily beat this game in around 35 minutes if memory serves me right ;-)
But I agree with you about your last sentence... it took me months to beat this game, but the amazing thing was, once I got to a certain level I could always get there on subsequent runs. So it would take me weeks to beat level 3-1, but once I did I always got to 3-2 when I tried again. Back then, it was always absolutely amazing to see a new level in this game...
Man...GB music is so underrated. With only a few notes available to him, Hirokazu Tanaka managed to create a piece better than most music you hear on the radio.
I cant listen to this its too nostalgic, cant bear it! It brings back visions of my childhood playing this game for hours in the back of a baking hot volvo on holiday in the south of france...
Rejoice, this is by far one of the most emotionally impacting music of all time! ^-^'
Just building up to it while whistling or humming, can get to you and you have to just let your feeling flow through...
After going through it and replaying it, you will feel even a cumulative effect that, when you allow it, can take all your sadness and fears away, leaving you awe struck by the power of humanity which is you and all of us, that we CAN and MUST live better lives:
Oh man good choice! Totally forgot about this one. Loved it then, and still love it now! Don't agree with everything on your list...but pretty much every choice is solid! Nice work, I enjoyed it a lot!
Same here! I had my gameboy and was just like "I have to get through this game so that I can hear the ending song," and then I would leave the ending song on until the batteries ran out!
Awesome

Ah this brings back memories of the first time I beat this game. I ran though the house with my Original GameBoy on at full volume. What a tune.

See kiddies, this is what music sounded like from good games back in MY day.
Still just as great as the first time I heard it.

I forgot how beautiful this music was. Like many others have said, I used to beat this game just to listen to the gorgeous ending music.
Thank you so much for posting it! It's now my cell phone ring tone :)

I still remember this game. It's too bad I lost my cartridge of this :(
I made it to 4-3 of the first round... died at Tatanga.
Never did beat this game :(

@RaceBandit
i still have it on my gameboy, played it waaaaaaay too often
on top speed i can clear it in less than an hour :p
i do remember back in the days when tatanga seemed as good as invincible, suppose that made it a lot more fun
sigh, i miss the good ol' days when I had no game skillz :(
