I have a Patriot Vintage with PAF's for mellow solos and a Patriot Limited with Rockfield SWC's for the juice. I sold my LP Gold Top and SG after buying these. Now have $3000 in the bank and two awesome guitars. I know there's some mystique to having the "brand" but these guitars are so well made and sound so good, I could never justify the difference. I've converted 5 other slingers after they played mine. It's sure nice to find something that actually provides value with reasonable cost!
After trying out (and purchasing) a MKP Custom, I sold my Gibson Les Paul Studio. Although it can be acquired for only $500, it feels and plays better than nearly any other guitar I have tried (regardless of price). The action of the ebony fretboard is amazing. In my opinion, it totally rules over the Les Paul Studio, the PRS SE, and anything made by Epiphone......and comes close to the hallowed ground of the high-end and classic Gibsons costing several times as much.
@CADEBRYANT my dad owned a les paul standard traded it in for an ibanez and then when i wanted to get a really good guitar i saw the micheal kelly had my dad mess with i played for a little while and after my dad played it he said it is just as good as a les paul but with the les paul you are really paying for the name
@humungonormus You posted awhile ago but it's the patriot vintage. I played one today and almost bought it but settled on the custom. Seaford Music in Delaware has one left. It kicks butt!
I find it funny that an average Micheal Kelly plays as good as a high end gibson...Okay, you may need to change the pickups, but the guitar itself is genius!
yeah they are totaly worth the money but may need to change the p-ups to get the sound ya want. luckly mine came with rockfield fat asses in the bridge and the neck and they are great all around pickups. it is heavy tho as in the guitar its self if that isnt a prob and ya want a good les paul style guitar but dont wanna spend 3000 on a decent gibson get ya a patriot in the 500 dollar range and ya wont be dissapointed i wouldnt trade mine for two 1500 gibson les pauls.
looking at the MK website I would say that the decree looks very good value, - depends if you would miss the coil tap facility to switch to more of a Fender sound. And the Patriot custom has very good spec HB pickups IMHO.
Yeah that Supreme is new for 2009 and uses the SWC pups . C for custom with more bite than the SWV used in other MK's - vintage . The Rockfields sounds good to me and the guitar is a good player
How much did you pay for your Micheal Kelly, robriani? Been looking into getting one since the day I played a show with Indorphine. They just sound amazing and when I got to play one, god they play better than my PRS.
well i traded a fantastic japanese tokai les paul and paid an extra 75 quid, but i think they retail at around 630 full price, easy worth it, i got it from the guitar shop i work in, i had to wrestle it off my boss because we both really wanted it.
i got the Michael Kelly Patriot Premium, except mine came stock with the Rockfield Mafia pickups, supposenly accident line but they put out for sale, calling it a limited edition, at least thats what the dealer told me, not a big deal, it was new, gonna put some emg's in it anyways. I paid 450.00 plus tax for mine, but by the time i add the emg 81/85 like it supposed to have it will cost the same as it would if it came in it, great guitar, very well made with top quality stuff for a low price.
honestly because i want to put the Rockfield Mafia's in my Les Paul and I want the EMG 81/85 in the Michael Kelly Patriot Premium. i already contacted Michael Kelly and that was a bullshit story about it being an accidental line, which i already figured that anyways, its just how the first line came out on that style of guitar. My preference in pickups are the EMG 81/85 anyways:)
Nice Vid from a Michael Kelly Patriot fan. Hey! As a new and struggling guitarist I like the idea of using the Youtube population to rate my progress and comment on how I can improve. There's alot of smart people out there and all your comments are welcome! Check my vids. Thanks!

very nice guitar but i would change the pickups to SD or EMG actives as they will give you a much better low-end and clear highs and warm mids

You can get them on ebay for around 500.00. They're incredible for their money. I've played two of them. Very thick, rich and heavy. Sweet necks too.

@homersimps1 sounds is awesome of these. but they are very heavy and its not easy plaing them. neck feels like tree in the hand.. =/

@ian916fun I was wondering whether to get the patriot custion , decree or the premium. Which one.
The decree is almost 300$ cheaper though. love the finishes.

@MrJackanthony
Definitely get the premium. The quilt top look amazing and a lot of people (your audience) like the sound of EMGs'.

Man I'm looking forward to my MK Supreme next check.
Mixed reviews on the various Rockfields. If I replace em, it'll be Seymours.
