Domingo you like better the great F: Corelia is a matter of taste, on what he saw and heard in Verona on "Turandott" and sang lousy, do not deny that I did not see, I would doubt that he always was much sought after by the big stage of the lyrics in the world, even after retirement continued to seek voluntary, since it debuted at the Met. until his retirement was permanent success clerk barely knew were sold out.
Timeless. I was fortunate to see her in Rome when I was a little girl. It was my first Opera and I cried for hours. Even now, decades later this makes me cry every time. She, together with Renata Tebaldi, is my favorite Mimi.
!!!GRANDE MIRELLA FRENI, MAGNIFICA "Mimi".LO MEJOR.
I actually *like* the more syrupy timbre her voice has in this later performance--I don't think the fullness and softer edges take away from the performance, rather they add to her range of vocal colors and the depth she can bring to the role. Proof that Mimi doesn't have to be totally insipid... she can be a soulful character with some dimension.
In the era of pre-packaged, flavor-of-the-week recording stars, I wish more people would go back and listen to the artistry of REAL soprani.

Callas-We're talking about the meaning of words and not their origin. The origin is fixed in time past. But meanings do evolve and loose their connection with their origin as seen in the very word on which you have been opining. As such, you're reference to the origin of that word does take the accepted meaning of context!
Domingo is actually the biggest artistic fraud of the modern era. He made a living by transposing anything and everything. La Boheme, which he transposed as early as 1967, is just one of them. In many occassions he transposed an entire operatic roles. With 130 roles under his belt, he's the textbook example of artistic prostitution. A strive for excellence is a concept which he avoided throughout his career. He's been the ultimate used car salesman of the opera business.

Callas-Thanks for showing your stupidity! You seem to be too dumb to know the difference between being "inquisitive" and being an "inquisitionist". I'd suggest you find a dictionary and first learn the meanings of those words. Then take the book and hit yourself on the head (not too hard though) to remind you that you should not comment on things you do not comprehend. Now get lost you dimwit!

What's a disaster is Domingo's transposed rendition of Rudolfo. With his hooted, throaty and pushed voice and his piss poor vocal range he cannot do justice to this role! Try Freni and Pavarotti -a much better duo for La Boheme.
This one was always my favourite Boheme combi. Mirella Freni almost looks and sings if her consumption is real. Especially in the scene, when she waits outside in the snow (TV-film version). I've also got the record, still in mono. And finally the curtain is closed: finito!

Freni is good, even great... but... NOT in Boheme. I prefer her Desdemona, her Elisabetta, her Buterfly. She sounds too dark as Mimi, her Mimi is older, without such grace and innocence, without so big emotions... Teresa Stratas as Mimi is my favorite, or maybe also Cristina Gallardo-Domas.
Teresa Stratas - vocal disaster?! Well... your opinion. IMHO Mirella Freni didn't really understood Mimi, I don't mean she sings bad. Technically she is great. Anyway, de gustibus non est disputandum.
You must have a very conservative opinion on what dark sounds are then. Freni has a beautifully dramatic sound but it is far from being too dark for Mimi. However, if you really think it's too heavy, there are recordings of her singing it when she was about 28. Still, this is her most famous role of all time, and many stupid critics even criticized her for being too light at times. It's funny. I think the balance is amazing. She is by far the most famous Mimi of the last 50 years.
Grazie Mirella!
I can't stop watching this! No wonder that they received the longest applause in history of opera - on hour, fifty minutes! (Guinness Book of Records).
Domingo and Freni: Dreamteam for this opera! Best performed version of "sono andati"! Tender, emotionally but still very passionately sung. Complimenti, cara Mirella! Bravo!

Why it is so difficult to accept the truth??
Domingo`s narrow vocal range and his undifferenciated interpretation can never honor this oper. Please listen Freni and Pavarotti and learn!

Why don't you stop trolling Freni Mimi clips. Your two Mimi's don't come close.

I just watched the MET Boheme with Stratas.
I think there is NO comparison between the gorgeous italianate voice of Freni and the quite arid voice of Stratas.
Also, the use of words is of course a vantage for the native Freni.
I found also Stratas a bit too affected as an actress, even if with good moments.
Freni WAS Mimi.
And Domingo is SUCH an Artist!
