  • ...furthermore now that I do know what it is, I intend on doing everything I can to help other people with this problem. Ran out of characters lol. Well I'm glad you finally recoverd. You're quite gorgeous btw.

  • I thought I was the only one as well for about 8 years now, but I found out that it was certainly a OCD type thing. The compulsion can be quite overpowering most of the time, but I agree will power is definatly key to recovery. No matter how many hats, gloves, or whatever little knicknak you have. If you have this disorder, it feels like a curse, but the silver lining is that it's truly a measure of how much will power you have, and once you do recover, you can truely appreciate yourself more.

  • i had Trich for 8 years... i think more.. ive tryed everything. I wore bandanna's, the whole sha-bang... then I had enough of it so I shaved it all off... so ya but my hair grow back so i'm pulling less.. well not even pulling my hair anymore... but I still have callous on the tip of my pointer finger from the years of damage. I'm glad that i'm not only one having it...

  • @kim555551

Well done! And remember if you do pull don't get down because of it, just keep telling yourself you don't do that any more. It is an old habit and it will take time to break.

  • WOW nice job!=)

  • thank you

  • good job

  • Stay strong, friends.

  • Typsydust you are a moron.

  • Great video.

I've never heard of trich, but it's great that you made this vid for others who relate. :)

I admire your will power. More people need it in general.

  • iv been battling this for maye 7 years, and its really tough when you cant hide it. i wear my hair up in a pnytail everyday because if i wore my hair down people would see that i have a big spot on top of my head and its really embarassing when your around people that like to point out everything they can. in the years iv had this disorder i have found that it will change you, physically, and emotionally. so if you have this remember you are NOT alone!!!

  • I've been battling this secretly for about 5 years now.

5 years ago it was just my eyelashes and it was while i was being severely bullied by other girls after moving.

my mother thought i was psychotic and took me to the ER and i pulled it off as a one time thing

No one in my family has ever suffered from a mental disorder of this kind and It just hurts knowing i have to hide it from everyone, its just my head hair now and your videos have helped me as i've silently struggled alone, thank you

  • Hey, gloves don't help me, I have really bad eczema as well. I've tried gloves but I always pull them off anyway.

I like to wear my hair up and keep tweezers away. That helps a little.

  • I've been suffering from this awful disorder for almost 10 years now. Your videos are a huge inspiration to me, I look at your beautiful shiny hair and it gives me hope =] Thank you

  • Comment removed

  • It's been interesting listening to your story. Thanks.

  • Go FUCK yourself you asshole

  • hey i'm 14 years old and have been struggling with trichotillimania for 11 years now. i pull my eyelashes and hair on the top of my head sometimes. thank you so much for posting your videos on trich-they're inspiring me. i've gone through THE WORST times of my life due to it..and i hurt not only myself but family too. i've told myself that i can't get control but i am going to start again now thanks to you. -thanks, drpepfrapp.

  • how lng did it take for your hair to grow back

  • turn off the background music. please.

  • Yeah, no can do. What's done is done.

  • yea im only 14 and i have a lot of bald spots and it s so embarrsing bc its that time of my life that looks are everything to people.

& i pull mine out from the root so i think to myself, is it ever gonan grow back?? & im going to try the hair band thing wehre you snap it everytime you reach for yer head

  • i was told by a cosmetologist that no matter how many times you pull the same root out, it will always grow back.

now if only i could stop pulling...

    ugh, trich blows.

  • yeah trich does blow

but i cant get over how good it feels after pulling.. my pshycyatrist isnt helping

  • well I've heard that the folical hair shaft will be damaged, and thats what happens after pulling too much, therefore the hair wont grow there, but it should still grow back.

  • Alguien me dice que dice?? Gracias

  • kudos to you for hitting trich in the face!!

oh and by the way, willpower = Godpower so you should feel very blessed :) way to go!!

  • I just watched the video to find out what that big word meant. It's clearly a compulsive disorder that could probably be helped with counselling. Of course, keep in mind, I'm a guy and regularly 'buzz' the hair off my head. So, what do I know?

  • wow you are so beatiful

  • (continued...) Before the deadline of my dissertation I ripped masses of hair out leaving me with bald areas that a month later I'm unsure as to whether they'll come back or not.

But you hit home when you said that it is different for everybody. I'll be the first to admit I've made bad choices. For me I'll stop by getting a full-time job, taking up reading, learning to cook (and consequently improving my diet) and going to the gym.

Have to ask how did you deal with the uncertain feelings?

  • Thanks for reminding me that I'm not alone. I've been really stressed out for the last 2 years. I pulled my hair when I was really really young then managed to stop for years until 2 years ago. For me it has been because I've suffered from a lack of control in what I do with my life. I finally finished university and no longer feel tied down by time demands or finances or pushy parenting. I've felt extremely uneasy and have enjoyed very little and found it too easy to go along with the crowd.

  • My friend had trich, and here's what she did (she's about to type this):

Put a hair tie on your wrist. Every time you feel yourself reaching for your head, or your eyelashes, or wherever, snap the band. The snap hurts a bit, and your brain connects the pain in your wrist to the impulse of pulling your hair out, and the impulses slowly fades.

  • stop! that is no way to think! i know for sure that i am not going to let this take over my life! and with you saying all these things about how you may leave it temporarily and just go right back tells everyone what kind of self esteem you have! and i for one like to think that it WILL go away. and it can! there are people who have stopped for good, and i am going to be one! so please dont say that you cant stop.

  • Thats a way to motivate a person you asshole!

  • You tell Um SHanna! ; )

  • you r so cute!

  • ^_^ I'm so glad i found you...someone who's gotten over it...

  • Glad that you were able to overcome it :)

I still haven't found what's right for me, sad.

Getting a hair cut helped, because I have to see the strand that I am pulling and having shorter hair made it difficult...but only for a short time, because I was able to find a way around that.

    Keep it up :)

  • Everyone doesn't pull from only their head. So for people who pull from 'other places' ..being in an area of the house where you are seen, (that prevents you from pulling.)

  • I wear bandanas. Ive been wearing a bandana for almost 5 years now. And it really hurts. I almost overcame trich recently, but relapsed, not severe but bad enough to make a spot big enough to be noticable. My family and friends support me, but its just not enough sometimes. I think i need a support group or something. Or cosmetic gloves, or something...other than my bandana you know

  • I find for me trich healing (over the past 8 months)has been mainly healing childhood wounds. A lot of it is codependency /family issues/unresolved grief. The books by Abby Rohrer have helped me understand why I have trich. I don't pull out from the root, but I feel frizzy hair, swipe my fingers over them to be straight &I feel and break split ends. My hair are better, but it gets frizzy when I touch a lot. Trich healing is about loving yourself. Rohrer's website is at pullfreeatlast dot com.

  • In an earlier video, you mentioned that watching TV is a time you often pull. That's same for me. I've found that crocheting while I watch TV helps, since it takes both of my hands. Also, just wearing normal gloves (it's cold where I am, so that works) and occasionally smoothing my hair alleviates the urge. Reading is also a trigger for me, and I often situate myself in a chair so that I'm sort of curled up, sitting on one hand, and using the other to hold the book. Thanks for your videos.

  • hi, i am 35 and have been struggling with trich for about 15 years. i have used a lot of different things to try to stop myself from pulling my hair out, including hats, gloves, silly putty and stress balls. if my hands are free, unfortunately, they are going to gravitate towards my head. anyway, thank you for sharing your thoughts. good luck to you and everyone else who is suffering with trich. i know how bad it can make you feel sometimes, but please remember that you are not alone! :)

  • (other half of comment...lol sorry its rather long...) What helps me out is my desire to be able to let loose my hair again and just be a girl, because that is part of being a girl, our hair. So I suppose that falls under willpower. The hard part is is knowing it can always come back in full force which is what I am now fighting once again. I will be happy to say that I am slowing overcomming it. So uh...yay! Lol.

  • For me I have been wearing a hat out since I can't out without one anyhow because of this cursed Trich I'm also stuck with so it helps outside with pulling, also when I'm around people who know I have it, I don't really pull around people I've noticed. For me, wearing hats out is a hassle and makes me feel, um, rather weird, because I can't take pictures without em etc.

  • Actually, taking off hats is very much a subconsious thing for me. I ALWAYS wear hats and bandanas and whatever I can, but I end up taking them off subconsiously. So It really isn't a choice for me. Even when I am wearing a hat, I just push it off and I can't help it.
