20 yrs of touring, singing some of THE most strenuous songs on the vocals and add in ciggarettes and this is the end result!! Still sounds very good, but he set the bar so high in his prime,he was untouchable!!! check out the 1987 version!!
yes i am happy that this song was put on youtube, because it is such a beauty, powerful and softness together, one of is best songs, Queensryche forever!
Oh man!! Roads to Madness is QR's most epic brilliant song. They got it all, lyrics, rythym, and voice! THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD!!! 'Ryche on my friends!!!
Seen them supporting DIO on his Holy Diver tour. Queensryche were promoting The Warning. After the concert it didn't matter who you'd asked they'd been blown away, DIO were absolutely crap in comparison, RTM has to be one of the best songs ever.
When talking about the interpretation of lyrical content, few metal singers can top Geoff Tate. "... but the door, was, was locked - I opened! ..." Great video!
Don't get me wrong I love these guys and have been following them from the start, but it is a bit sad that some singers deteriorate more than others, probably just in the genes. There are some that still hit the high notes with ease, Ian Gillan f.i. Geoff even has a classical training, you'd think he last.
Also, think about when Tate first recorded and performed these songs he was in his early twenties. The male voice goes through a change in the ealy thirties-it starts to thicken and deepen and for many, they just can't hit those notes the same, if at all. I'm convinced that Tate takes extraordinary care of his voice and lives a very clean life, but even that may not be enough to stop the inevitable. Gillan's voice, while still great, has definitely gotten very rough, while Tate's is still clean.
Abso-fukkin-lutely EPIC!! This is as symphonic as rock'n'roll gets, pure perfection. I'd do anything to go back in time and watch Queensryche in those days...
Surely, 2 decades on Geoff Tate can't reach the high notes anymore (Plant, Coverdale all legends can't either) but he did prove he could sing them live. Long live Queensryche!
I saw 'em a couple years back. it's true, he can't hit the high notes anymore,(who can?) but the rest was spot on. The show was great. my chief complaint is that, well, their new music sucks, tribe, mindcrimes 2, etc. Blech! Pure crap. See 'em in concert, they don't play that shit. They still sound good. two thunbs up for even staying alive.
I concur 100% When I met them on the Mindcrime tour, Degarmo was the nicest guy and very eager to chat with fans. I always felt when he left..the heart of the band left.
Yeah I'm amazed too. I studied with his voice teacher in Seattle because I was such a fan. He was the best, but he has nothing left. Even his body shows the strain. Watch how he moves in this video and then watch a new one of him. His left hand sticking out in the new vids is almost an apologetic gesture, it seems. He doesn't even seem to have fun on stage any more.
Man, the instrumental is just wonderful, so is the song,a nd geoff's powerful voice. the more i keep watching queensryche videos, the more of the urge i have to draw the band
unbelievably awesome..i have multiple live dvd's and cd's but cannot find the entire version of this song..is this on a DVD that i don't know about ? chris degarmo being on stage means must have been completed a while ago. great job on holding the camera..
Thank god for youtube, this is just some of the great stuff we get to see... brings me back to some good times in my life. this is fantastic stuff right here !
AHHHH..........The Empire Tour. A great, great show. One of my favorite Ryche songs. Tate shines on this tune. One of the best front men in music. He'll never get the credit he well deserves.
Damn close yer eyes and it's like bam your at the concert again these guy's were so fn awesome live as this is proof to tate's voice and the band at the time top notch.
This was an amazing time in music. I feel honored to have seen Queesnryche a dozen times before 96' Unless you lived in those times...you just wouldn't understand. Thank you so much!! Think I'll listen to some Ryche.
thanx 4 posting this...they r my favorite band in the world....i can sing just like geoff tate...he is my vocal idol....i love everything they have ever done...but this is definately one of my favorites....ryche4ever

Incredible, you can somehow feel the insanity. The emotion with which Tate interprets the song really does the job... can't stop listening to it.
15 years old, and loving it.
