  • I just bought some new Audioengine A2 speakers in black hooked up to my MacBook Pro. I'm thinking about buying the D1 and am curious how much better it will make my music sound? Because as of right now just the A2 speakers alone hooked up to my MacBook Pro....sound AMAZING !!! what would the overall improvement be ?

  • @sdcaljoe In most cases it will make your setup sound better then what you would hear when using your internal sound-card. Especially with high resolution files. All your audio will sound clearer and more dynamic. Don't forget we have a 30-day audition period through our webstore.

  • what's the song that plays in the background?

  • @Muldoonite Aphex Twin - Flim

  • @deadlock2001 thanks

  • Asynchronous USB transfer mode and jitter reduction seem to be the current buzzwords. What is your opinion, where does this fit in the bigger picture and what design choices did you make in this particular product (which certainly looks nice)?

  • @deadlock2001 The D1 operates in what is called "adaptive" mode, which offers most of the advantage of asynchronous mode, without the higher cost. The "proof of the pudding" so to speak regarding the affect of jitter on the sound of a DAC can mainly be understood by looking at the distortion spec. The D1 has lower distortion than most DACs in the industry today, even those costing many times more!

  • @audioengineUS Thanks for clarification. Indeed, one would think there are more factors involved than just data transfer mode. The distortion (or lack thereof) is what counts, although sometimes certain artifacts can sound 'better' than others. I've just ordered the D1 from a local reseller and I'm looking forward to use it with my A5s!

  • what is this for exactly?

  • @PainandMotivation Simply put, the D1 digital-to-analog converter (DAC) helps you get better sound out of your computer. The D1 is a very high quality 24 bit DAC that allows you to bypass your computer's soundcard or headphone output and send digital audio through USB or optical. Plus the D1 also has a nice headphone amp!

  • @audioengineUS why is this better than a sound card?

  • Do you have this instead of a fancy sound card?

  • @utubeb14 The D1 allows you to bypass your computer's soundcard or headphone output and send audio through USB or optical. D1 is the perfect digital interface between your computer and music system and will improve the sound of ALL your music.

  • Will it work with an ipad?

  • @k12robert Some DACs work with the iPad (with the Apple USB camera connection kit), but the Audioengine D1 and D2 do not.

  • Any way this will work on a linux install/?

  • @mozaks80 D1 (and D2) DAC work with any OS, including Linux.

  • how does this compare to USB DACs at this price range?

  • @HiFiReviewer The quality of the digital-to-analog converter in the D1 is exceptional and combined with the build quality, high quality headphone amp, and aesthetics, the D1 is at the very top of the DACs in its price range.
