  • Made in Russia :))

  • PR2 seems very primitive compared to the Japanese robots.

  • 400,000,000 bucks for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all i always wanted was a robot butler when will this be alot cheaper?

  • I LOVE THE FUTURE

  • Truly doing the work of god here guys.

  • 1:34 one of the greatest moments in the history of robotics so far.

  • To forever alone guys.

  • Robuts can get beer now? What a world.

  • what a wonderful use of a robot

  • Sooo.... Americans completed their mission to make a robot bring beer. Still waiting for japaneese gundam >.>

  • A mobile fridge that comes to your location would be far more effecient ;)

    Cool robot though!

  • That guy is pretty hot... sorry got distracted. Okay that robot is cool but slow, still a good start.

  • oh, and this thing dosen`t just fetch beer.

  • give this thing a brain its officially better than people.

  • Anyone else type in the fridge

  • That's an interesting fridge setup you got there.

  • this is very cool welcome to the future hey willow are the robots from a place where robots build robots

  • I'd be done my beer ready for round two by the time he opened that fridge. still, mighty cool.

  • Wouldn't it be cheaper and faster to just open the fridge and get the beer yourself?

  • DAMN THAT WOULD TAKE FOREVERRRRRRRR

  • Just like asking your wife to get you a beer, 20 minutes later she comes back and tells you to get your own beer.

  • ... and after 2 hours and 30 minutes your beer is in your hands woohoooo

  • but the robot is soo slow that it is close to unusable

  • @pearlblack Give it a few weeks once they've made a full production model!! This is just a prototype! I'm sure your cell phone was slow as fuck the first time you had one, right? Depending how old you are...when I had my first cell phone, it was the brick flip phones and I couldn't text. Now I can do everything on my phone that I can do on my PC. :P

  • It's slooooow.

  • już myślałem że lodówki nie zamknie :D

  • Damn, robotic slavery and the human vs robot wars, here we come

  • this is brilliant, dont hate on a great invention!

  • Laziness at it's finest.

  • WHAT HAS SCIENCE WROUGHT?!

  • i bet that thing breaks every day

  • Btw the venus project and the zeitgeist movement are pies in the sky. Technology will arrive at its own pace

  • Lol how cute, it's so slow

  • Great work guys! Keep working hard for humanity. One day you'll displace the entire labor force allowing us to evolve into a society of labor-less abundance! :)

we'll just have to throw out that silly economy (thank god).

  • @zwest135 We'll all end up in a communism that WORKS.

  • @iceball3xd

I think you and I are thinking on the same level. The only communism we've ever actually seen is state run capitalism. This second industrial revolution were now in is going to catapult us out of the labor economy into something unprecedented and while it might resemble marx's ideals in some ways I think its adherence to the scientific method as a democratic process will be reminiscent of the "free market" where anybody is able to contribute. google: Zeitgeist, moving forward

  • @zwest135

There will be no "money" in the new labor-less economy.. as it won't be relevant. Of course, the power structure will try to preserve itself regardless of relevance but it will be impossible - the system will fail. I think its conservative to guess that in 20 years... using machines will become even cheaper than outsourcing labor to slaves in third world nations. Watch as literally everything automates. No doubt it will be simply amazing.

  • Happy birthday Paulie!

  • I hope you can make the PR get the beers a little faster in the future, because it looks like it's leaving the fridge open waaay too long.

  • serious, for $400.000 it's to slow, when you check the end of this vid were the playback is 5 times faster ...

  • @unikat73 So if someone gave you $400.000, you would make one better?

  • @kittyhawk501 you think they only had a 400k budget? no way! and i just want it faster, im sure they decreased the speed because of safety and security

  • this is fanastic :D

    i love beer

  • awesome. if only it was a little faster so the fridge wont be open for that long.

  • i wish i could have that robot :D

  • yeah, kill that fridge door, robot!

  • This is brilliant! Finally catching up with the technology promised to us in Rocky IV

  • And it only took like 50 years.

    See this - youtube.com/watch?v=UXG2eGKGoUg

  • God Bless Nerds

  • When I worked for Androbot in the 80's Topo could get a beer from a dispenser on the fridge. Believe it or not that was 25 years ago. Looks like technology has finally solved one of the most vital problems of the human condition.

  • The robot sure look autistic!

  • The perfect gift for a loved one on International beer Day.

  • i would spend my life savings for one of those

  • It's grate and everything I like technology, but wouldn't it be much easy to ask your GF to fetch you a cold one?

  • robotics are taking over, its awesome! i doubt this robot is going to start thinking for itself and take over the world.

i want one, its only a matter of programming for it to start mixing drinks for you.

Automation is the beginning of the Venus project

  • @skeight976 Ahh yes, the venus project.. We have a long ways to go but we can do it. Free power and water for anyone and everyone? its more then possibal.

  • Its a good thing scientists are using science to make beer robots instead of stupid shit like curing cancer and world hunger.

  • @ericsjohns

That's a pretty ignorant comment. All scientific projects are interrelated, this is an incredible feat of engineering, the knowledge of which can have any number of applications. The choice to have to fetching beer is just a fun gimmick, it's irrelevant to the underlying achievement. Robots like this will some day be helping the infirmed in their homes.

  • yeah.. guiness is stocked...

  • wooooow

is there any preregister to ask for one haha

    seriously

  • BEER+ROBOT=GOOD!!!!!

  • I want this robot :D

  • BRAVO!! I'm glad people are doing something useful with science. I hope one day these robots make it to the main stream so I can have one of my own.

  • I want a BEERBOT

  • so far so good but by the time the robot comes back I'll be dying

  • Guys! 3 minutes with the fridge door open, this is not sustainable!

  • Another step in the evolutional stairs

  • It's good old lovable Bender.

  • Hausfrauenalternative?

  • epic

  • amount of time you spent making this robot would be more than the time it would take you in your entire life to get all the beers you needed, but oh well

  • @ShatteredGrace15

That's why we're inventing robots to make the robots for us ;)

  • damn it's slow

    yet another useless robot

can't humans do anything right, sigh

  • and then after 4 hours of waiting I'm not thirsty any more :D

  • lol it's so slow xD

  • finally something useful

  • This is what everyhold needs :-)

  • Technology vs. God

    1 - 0

  • @roudea Dude, that robot can do much more things, this a fun example. Dont be so jerky.

  • @kablorte I know I sounded rude, but it was not my intension, I deleted the message because I know I made it harmful. As I told to one of the creators that reponded my comment, what I mean is not that this is a bad project, just that science in general, is going to a point where the use of the natural skills are losing. I know this is a very good work and for sure it taked a lot of work (and specificly this is great), and I admire that, but, we have seen the product of science without humanity.

  • @roudea There you are right. If you say things the good way everyone will be happy =) Cool robot anyway.

  • @Kali23Yuga Considering God gave you eyes, hands, legs, memory, the brain to make alcoholic drinks and build robots, (as well as the soul to appreciate it) I'd say technology vs God = 1 - 100

  • @hayabusa1x yea but it was just a joke k :)

  • it is slooooooow

  • al fin un invento útil, ese sin duda es el robot más útil del mundo

  • For God's sake, is that robot running a Pentium II with 32MB RAM? How long does it take to identify a beer bottle?

I appreciate the effort to create robots, but guys, the main thing expected of a robot is to be EFFICIENT. Like, saying "Get me a beer", and having it placed on your table 10 seconds later, uncorked, without getting up.

  • @AddictiveDissolve

I think you are the one who is slow if you can't spend 30 seconds Googling to work out that it has more than 32Mb of RAM but you sit around bitching about it's speed.

If you think it is so easy to take the first steps with robotics why don't you quit whining and post video of your robot doing something "efficiently" [I'll refrain from caps here]?

The PR2 is the result of more intellect than haters like you can imagine.

  • @DingofromOz Amazing how every time a person dares to criticize something, everyone else gets defensive. Do you realise just how pathetic you sound when calling me a "hater" for criticizing a bloody ROBOT? Are you two relatives or something?

Honestly, the demonstration in this video was not impressive. That's the unpleasant truth.

I do wish the team good luck, and hope they'll get rich of selling robots similar to the ones in I, Robot, for all I care.

    Meantime, Dingo- grow up.

  • @DingofromOz Calm down, this robot is cool, but slow as hell... it´s slow, 6 mins for a beer with the fridge open its a lot.

And well, Im an engineer too, I know that doing this is hard... but don´t try to sound smart, this robot is slow, veeeery slow and you can´t do anything about that.

  • @drcaos But you CAN and SHOULD do something about it! All of the code is open-source! Check it out on ros.org

  • I don't need a beer to stop working, i always want to stop working

  • pretty useless.

  • Robot with vuvuzelas is the best!

  • Does this robot check temperature of beer bottle? If not, you should.

  • @fjspope put an infrared camera on it and it would be able to tell the temperature of anything without even touching it.

  • Better decide you want a beer an hour in advance..... instead of just getting up and taking 30 seconds to grab a beer.

  • @captaingynu Not ment to be practical. The robot is multi function. They make it do all kinds of things. This is a test of the robot identifying objects (bear bottle, human face), manipulating things designed for humans (fridge door), interfacing with a web app, etc. This isn't a product. Don't look for this at walmart. Have a nice day.

  • @CNSTCasualty Never planned on looking for it at all... Have a nice day.

  • lol, nerds know how to get down

  • so I want to spend thousands of dollars on a robot that takes 5 minutes to get me a beer that is 15 feet away when i could do it myself in 30seconds for free?

  • Perhaps we can coexist with the machines peacefully...

  • Possibly the greatest contribution to humanity ever.

  • Very impressive stuff!

  • C3PO can do it better

  • not bad not bad fellas.... I'll take 3!

  • Stand up and make some exercise

  • my dog does this way faster

  • its so slow tho....

  • @monkeylking Gets the job done though LOL :)

  • really cool but by the time the beer actually arrived I already need another one. 2 things can solve this. 1- stop drinking or drink slower... NOT GOING TO HAPPEN 2- built a faster robot.

    My choice is #2

    Good job.

  • SO this is how bender was born! :D

  • go get it urself u lazy bastard

  • Does the robot run on Windows 7?:D Thumbs up:D

  • @motoklubi Nope, it runs Ubuntu Linux. :D

  • wow now everyone in the world needs one of those but one that will clean the house everyday XD

  • dream do come true!

  • thats too long to get a beer, but nonetheless impressive

  • fuckin amazing

  • El Robot se llama Puerto Rico dos!(2)

  • Nice. Looks like something that would come from an MSOE senior deisgn project!

  • 1:30 i remember my first beer....

  • Bite my shiny metal ass!

  • Sweet Beer Bot! I.. AM... BEER..BOT...DRINK..SOME...BEER

  • amazing !

  • When it looks at you it's okay to take the beer, haha. What happens when it's not okay?

    Damn robots taking my job.

  • beer me!

  • @menoziinrevoltado ohhhhhhhhhhh

  • finally!

  • Amazing!

at 1:26 is it operating in some sort of force/impedance control mode?

  • Soooo slooooow!

  • It should be smart enough to deny requests for Guinness in a bottle.

  • What about a cooling system until the robot came to you?

  • Robots will look at this video in the future and know why they hate us. Thank you for aiding in human kind's destruction.

  • yeah too slow (even in this fast forwarded vid) too big, but nice start!

  • Yep bit slow. But they make 'em faster. They always do...

  • Good thing it's not a bending unit.

  • F**king genius, although it's a bit slow, and getting up for a beer can help you not become a lardass and get serious thrombo, alcho-cise people!

  • That's already very convinving. - But I think the robot should also refill the fridge.

  • now they just need to robot to make a sandwich...

  • this so awesome but useless

  • @menoziinrevoltado ..LMAO, nice!

  • @ktdabull They deleted my comment?

  • I'm getting a divorce

  • sick bot but shouldnt it go a little faster? i mean i know it has to do a lot of calculations and whatnot but think about car welding bots that move a lot faster

  • @menoziinrevoltado Geeks are scratching their head, I thought that happened when we invented the internet.

  • Mines needs to support similar research projects!

  • all that needs to be done is for it to make sandwiches and we got ourselves the new "Woman v1.2"

  • skynet???

  • awesome! this is one everyguy's wish list! a robot that fetches beer and plays pool!

  • that is fucking sick!

  • Okay, thats it. I'm coming to work for you now.

  • please be gentle with the refrigerator door!!! did you see how it was bouncing back and forth??? Darn near came of the hinges.

  • These guys gonna be so fat and lazy when they use this robot xD

  • ...or you can...i dunno get up and get it yourself? i know thats crazy but...

    But really that is cool.

  • Sweet it breaks the hinges off the refrigerator then brings you a shaken up beer. Isn't that what the old lady is for? If my old lady opened the frig like that I would sell her for scrap! I can imagine these guys in these mothers basement, dude have your mom bring us a beer, no way! ( long pause) we got to build a robot! Six month later... Do you think we could just have your mom dress up like a robot? I am so thirsty. another six months... Wtf mom why did you drink all of our beer?

  • @robinson1509

It wasn't opening the fridge that hard. It was sped up to 13X at frist and then again at 5X the regular speed. This is why it looks so violent. FYI and all.

  • slow, cumbersome, expensive, gimmick - no thanks

  • Since the code is open source, I hope a diet coke option will be added soon ... at 2x.

  • ill take 2 of them and a 12 case beer!

  • i want two of them

  • I want one!!!!

  • 1:40. 2romanian names in the team.

    huray

  • i'm sure i saw a video of a giant robot at a tradeshow that was trying to do this and accidentally punched a hole in the door. anyone else? post a link if you know where it can be seen. cheers!

  • This is pretty much the coolest robot ever.

  • Team WG

    You guys are truly inspiring!

    Keep up the great work!

  • as a true blue super-nerd, im more excited about the fact they have developed a robot with item recognition, the ability to open and close things, and the ability to navigate a home. and the fact they seem to think there is enough of a market for it to just fetch beers :D

  • @soddit112 you're forgetting it also folds laundry XD

  • This makes my wife obsolete.

  • 0:13 - isn't that the guy from bms?

  • dang x5 is slow the normal speed would take an hour

  • @jeffhardy5637 5 x 1 minute = 5 minutes?

  • I would never get drunk, each time I would ask for a beer I would lose my buzz.

  • YOU PEOPLE ARE THE TRUE HEROES OF THIS WORLD!

  • It's not as impressive when you realize how much the footage is being sped up. Also, it is really a huge waste of energy while the fridge door remains open for minutes while the robot is scanning the bottles for the available types of beer. Make it faster and more effecient and this would go from something that is just novel to actually useful and interesting.

  • @imart9000 I don't think it's necessarily the idea of getting beer from a fridge they are trying to promote here. IMO the fact that it's doing a fun thing we can all relate to is a viral campaign to advertise the product - and for that it appears to be working pretty well!

  • cool! this reminds me of the heineken commercial!

  • a robochef would be awesome also!

  • I like how the robots checks that the fridge door is closed properly after slamming it. One of the greatest flaws of fridge technology; bounce back.
