  • my 2 favourite characters and these 2 played there parts the best.

  • school is doing oliver. got called back for doger. crossing fingers

  • happy birthday mr. ron moody

  • I do love how charles dickens wrote this book to show how horrible victoiran london was, and the musical is almost the exact opisite, in the book fagin gets hanged. But i love it none the less.

  • The good stuff starts at 1:00

  • i must say, dodger is more adorable than puppys. even more adorable than kittens in bubbles!

  • When I used to watch this on video as a kid, I used to fancy Dodger xD

  • Three people got robbed by Bill Sikes.

  • I love those guys!

  • This is how the movie should have ended- on Fagin and Dodger dancing down the street- they're the real heroes of Oliver! We don't need to see Oliver make it home.

  • i hope it was a millionaires wallet. I feel sorry for Fagin - hes almost 70!

  • I love these 2 so much , their bond is amazing. Fagin had many boys who helped him steal but dodger was always his favourite. I think these 2 are the best characters in the film. This was the time when real actors were about, there is so many amazing actors out there today, but not one of them compares to these 2. There is only one Ron Moody and Jack Wilde. <3

  • The music in this is outstanding.

  • Did Dodger take all the money out of that wallet since from 1:49-2:03 Fagin was looking inside and he looked at Dodger at 1:53 like he was saying "there's no money inside" with Dodger smiling back like he was saying "I got the money." However, if Fagin said that he was going to turn a leaf over, I wonder why he took the wallet when Dodger was handing it to him where I thought he would have said "no more stealing" and to give it to the police and lie that it was found in the street by Dodger.

  • @afriendofbean umm... because the whole point is Fagin knows he should become an honest man but the temptation of a life of crime is too great... and I'd say it's more like he wants to keep the money that's in the wallet when Doger gives it to him, and Doger smiles cause he knows that Fagin can't resist it

  • @blahdeblahblah939 Good point. I guess since Fagin has been a thief for many years of his life, he is very used to taking money out of wallets. I guess when Oliver, Dodger and the rest of the thief kids were sleeping in the hideout, Dodger must have heard Fagin singing "Reviewing The Situation" and he must have heard him in the street here in this scene knowing that he doesn't want to be a thief anymore. (Maybe the reason why Dodger stole the wallet was so he could see what Fagin would do).

  • As soon as Fagin, Dodger, and the rest of the thief kids ran away out of their hideout, I wonder whatever happened to that owl that was in their hideout whether it was a pet of Fagin's or, the owl was just there as soon as they moved into that hideout. That was a little strange that they left the owl there all alone.

  • what does Fagin mean by "Lined?" ?

  • @msmissjordan1 I know Fagin said that earlier in the movie after singing the song "You Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two" where after he said "Lined" Dodger said "only the best" which must mean that "have you made the wallet very well" where that means if the name, ID, and any name stitchings on the wallet have been removed. Also, when Dodger said "only the best" (just like he said in this scene) that must mean "I made the wallet the best way I can" and/or "I did my very best."

  • At 1:19, why did Fagin call Dodger as "young man" sounding like he doesn't know his name when of course he's been calling him Dodger the whole time?

  • @afriendofbean because he's acting as though he has turned over a new leaf and is starting again!

  • WILDE ALL THE WAY!! GO DODGE

i love how he just steps out from behind that lamp post thingy mabob whateverrrr ILOVEYOUJACKWILDE!!!

  • Hold on... I am Reviewing the situation. :)

  • @BritonFerryLegend Were you confused why they were singing "Reviewing The Situation?" If so, the reason they were singing it was because they were changing their lives to not be thieves anymore. The first time Fagin sang it near the hideout was where he was thinking about running away from the hideout to get a wife and maybe get a job but, he had no friends to help him which is why he didn't run away.

  • I wish we knew what happened to them :/

  • @tommychaos3 As a matter of fact I wondered the same thing especially seeing Fagin, Dodger, and the other thieves running away out of their hideout and at the same time the henchman Bill Sikes died. With them singing "Reviewing The Situation" was meaning that they were changing their lives and not be thieves anymore. However, a better ending could have shown that Fagin got arrested with Dodger and the other kids being sent to the Workhouse with Mr. Bumble while Oliver had a loving family.

  • Fagin = British Voter

Sykes = British cash in hand worker

    Orphans = The next generation.

    Dickens was a prophet.

  • The two most charming villains ever!!!

  • I wish Nancy didn't die ):

  • @101genco the funny thing is that even after he killed her, bill still blamed her for his rotten luck. that guy is such a naughty word!

  • @13fiddlerontheroof Yes i konw that's so horrible Shani Wallis did a really go job as Nancy

  • @101genco ya she did!

  • This is what bankers and wall street types sing after they screw everybody

  • i fancied dodger so much when i was little

  • ONCE A VILLAIN YOURE A VILLAIN TILL THE END!

    fucking masterpiece :D

  • i wish this was the ending to the stage musical

  • fagin and dodger together all the way XD

this is a really brilliant movie when I finished reading the novel

i was like "how about watching a movie about it"

and I watched alot of versions and always noticed that oliver 1968 was the top of them

but i was like "nooo its old i dont think it's gonna be good" but when I finaly watched it I took my words back I was amazed by everything Specially that the characters were interesting and more lively..all what I can say its timeless

  • @shahad111 if you havent check out disney version Oliver and company! just as good songs in there!

  • @melissa3289 I dont know is it worth it becous I think disney always put a different way for some stories

  • @shahad111 yeah! the songs i grew up with that soundtrack there isn't one song from disney version i dont like there a few i dont like in this version like who will buy umm i think thats about the only one lol that whole part about the roses was kinda dumb. but yes its always worth to check out a disney movie!

  • @shahad111 ironic that oliver is the least were the least of them.

  • @petrino yeah he wasn't very good but he only had the look of a lonely sad beautiful orphan

  • oh my freaking gosh!!! this is my most favorite song in the whole entire thing!!!

  • Thieving Jew.

  • DODGER IS MY HERO.

  • @Fowlfan333 Y'know, he got arrested originally.

  • Jack wilds 14 filming this film he said 'imself!

  • @chickenfillets74 you never know, the kid who played Gavroche in the 25th aniversary of les mis was 14.

@msmorewood i know, right! i didn't really care about oliver, but i cared about most of the other characters.

  • the reincarnation of Bil Sykes whahahah!!! >;)

  • I love it at the beginning how dodger is just casually stealing someones purse while bill sykes is just swinging off a building :') I love oliver but dodger just makes the film even better!

  • @megzz126xx I agree. Dodgers accent makes his singing sound great for the film.

  • he is 15 in this and he isn't exactly hot in this but he was in general

  • sorry disagree

  • No one is hotter than Jack Wild

  • Comment removed

  • @switchwitch5

    That's quite a disturbing comment

  • @chickenfillets74 actually many people would agree

  • @switchwitch5

But he's like ........what? 10 in the film. It's creepy. If I found a 10 year old girl hot, not only would that be equally disturbing, but it would be called pedophilia .

  • @chickenfillets74 Hi there, the person you messaged this to is 16. Jack Wild was 15 going on 16 on the filming of this movie, so your comment is way off base and not valid. The young lady's comment are 100% okay. Thought I would let you know this as its good to always check the person's profile as not everyone on youtube is 24+ Take care :)

  • @dorsi68

What??? No way is that kid 15 in the film....

  • @chickenfillets74 Hi there, Jack Wild was 15 when the movie was complete and 16 when the movie was released in the fall / winter of 1968 (he was born in 1952 and died in 2006). He was very short in stature but was almost 6 years older than Mark Lester (who was Oliver).

  • I wish the movie ended on this it would have been so much better

  • i love how he sings about "turning leaves" and then dodgers like "oh whats this?? a lined wallet?? betcha want this huh ragen..yeah you WILL review the situation"

  • These two are the only reason I even like this musical and movie.

  • Fagin+Dodger=Amazing! xxx

  • @pieboy013 you mean count olaf looks like fagin... ;)

  • @lordwannebo Buddy, I think the phrase is "Potato, potato"

  • @paroxysm91 he shouldn't have been sent there (I know is just a book) he was the best character :(

  • For me the film DOES end on this scene.

  • I think Dodger is a villain. He's a pickpocket who enjoys the challenge and the score. There's a dangerous rush in that lifestyle and he obviously enjoys it. In the book he ends up in prison but I like to think of him escaping to keep dodging the law. I guess that appeals to the villain in me!

  • @Brenda2OOO Thats not a villain, it's more like an anit-hero and sidekick, you know, in lines of the terminology. But potato, tomato!

  • Brilliant movie! One of my favorite musicals ever!!

  • This is my faviroute song from oliver

  • I love when right after Bill has died, Dodger is like, ''Ah man... ooh a wallet :D

  • both fagin and little dodger are soo cute!!

  • Is Dodger a villain too

  • @nickjvideos He can be considered a villain, but usually I just think he's neither hero or villain.

  • They appeal to the villain in everyone.

  • @MrBc223 I got done watching the movie and just had to get on YouTube to watch this again!

  • Best Fagin Ever

  • Ron and Jack did absolutely superb in this film. I agree, the film should have ended on this scene with them skipping down the road.

  • this is how they should of ended the stageshow.

  • I love Jack wild! May he RIP

  • 2 people need to review their situation

  • doger the lovebell rouge we all know

  • I like THIS ending much better then the one in the original book. You just can't break up a winning team.

  • "once your a villian, your a villian till the end"

  • ...yep...it cost them all an Oscar...because this is the best Oliver ever done...it should be left alone...gor rest ya Jack.

  • my dad`s grandad was in this film he`s in the scene in the market during consider yourself, it`s a great film none- the less

  • they hardly ever mention in the movies that fagin was originally portrayed to be jewish, but i love how you can spot that 'decent' of his in the way he sings his songs and his songs are played (hence the clarineth in most versions of Reviewing the situation, for example)

  • One of the best finishing scenes ever

  • I end the film here too it should be the ending it's the best film ever!!! -3

  • I love Fagin and Dodger together as a team it's just brilliant! I have to switch the film off at this part, for me this is the true ending and should finish here! Classic!

  • Dodger is the best actor ever -3

  • I LOVE JACK WILD :D

  • i love this song so much i could hug it

  • i love this song

  • Oliver could have died and I wouldn't have cared...as long as these two were okay.

  • @msmorewood In the book, Fagin loses his sanity and is executed. The Dodger gets sent to prison in Australia.

  • @msmorewood

Jack Wild died of cancer or some thing because hes vocal chords got took out or somthing its ashame.

and Fagin would of died since hes pretty old in this film

  • @dragonsrock555

Fagan is still alive. Ron Moody played him, look it up.

  • @mikethedp

Really cool i look it up

  • @dragonsrock555 fagin's not dead..

  • @AbieyieLovesYou

    I know

hes not dead i just found out...

  • @msmorewood Goddamn right

  • @msmorewood If I'm honest as soon as these two first appear in the film, I forget all about Oliver

  • @bossofalltime yep same here

  • @msmorewood Amazing comment. I laughed out loud. True too. x Ps I wouldn't read the book. Don't ask why...just...er...don't.

  • @cokieblume Yeah, I know. I prefer this ending, just them dancing off into the sunrise!

  • @msmorewood The Artful Dodger is my other persona XD

  • One of my favourite scenes of film, its the sense of adventure, and not giving up hope, but the underlying respect between dodger and fagan, just marvellous.

  • there couldnt of been a better ending for dodger and fagan!

  • Bill Sykes made 2 youtube accounts and disliked this

  • @rendijsmysterio Well im afraid your wrong there as Oliver Reed died in 1999. So how is that possible lol!

  • Fagan atrfull Dodger kinded spirts.

  • My favourite musical for sure, and one of my favourite films in general.Great acting and directing, fantastic costumes, music and choreography. All these factors are put together in such a harmony and balance that the film revives in great originality the atmosphere of the dirty, poor neighbourhoods of London of the victorian era. A classic masterpiece!

  • I love this scene, although I don't like the difference compared to the original book. Dickens wrote of Dodger being sent, after a spectacular trial, to the Americas where he would find his death, and of Fagin's rather "powerful" moments before his hanging, Those scenes were wonderful in the book, it is a shame to lose them

  • I totally agree, It should have ended here.

  • I am gonna be in this play . so excited

  • Once A Villian You're a Villain to the END!

    I just love that.

  • there shouldnt be a dislike button!

  • I think the whole song livens up when dodger starts singing! Great song! :D

  • In my mind, Fagin and Dodger will always be fascinating characters no matter how bad they are. What a great musical/movie. I saw this as a child and now that I'm 46 yrs old, I still have not tired watching it. My children and grandchildren loves it too. When I was a kid, I played Oliver in our school play. I still know the whole musical score.

  • Fagin is almost like a father for Dodger :) They're so right for eachother <3

  • i love this guy!

  • my faaaave, love Dodger (:

  • Thanks so much for posting this! :D

  • That's really the only way this story should end: Dodger and Fagin.

  • In the novel Dodger is arrested and sent to a penal colony and Fagin is hung.

But dammit, its so hard to make this story a musical without making them lovable, who'd want to see that happen?

  • @WillScarlet16 I agree. When Bill Sykes is shot in this film, we as the viewer are glad because he was a real bad guy. In the case of Fagin, however, he's more of a loveable rogue than a creepy old man like he is in the novel. It makes it harder for the viewers to see him hung. That's probably why they went with this ending instead.

  • i love fagin and dodger

  • Both parts 1 & 2 of "Reviewing the Situation" are going in my favorites and staying there...

    ...forever.

  • "Once a villian, your a villian to the END!"

    Love this line :P

    :D

  • My favorite part is when they sing:

    "Am I your partner?"

    "More a friend."

    Pure genius!

  • I love this song, in part because I'm at that time and place in life myself. A spark of hope and mostly grim cussedness to keep moving on, because going back just ain't no option, and change is an illusion

  • i love Jack Wild

  • The best seen ever!!!!! Dedicated to my dear friend Milly Bensley!!! What a cracker!!! X

  • I, too, wish the film had ended with this scene. But perfectajo has a point also-the film is titled "Oliver!" And back in 1967-1968 standards were a lot different and the film had to end on a morally positive note. I own this DVD and can't remember the number of times I've played it just to watch this scene over and over. Jack Wild singing, "Once the villain you're a villain 'till the end!" is priceless. Jack is the difinitive Artful Dodger, and I doubt his performance will ever be topped.

  • This scene just makes you feel good... Yes they are villans, but you just can't not love these two because of the fact they got away...

  • @Vukedin Arnt they the best characters ever??!!! :D its amazing that Bill Sykes has just died, nd Dodger still manages to steal a wallet

  • Dodger is the best character ever. No comparison. :D <3

  • Comment removed

  • i love this film so much, i could watch it all the time:)

  • Fagin and Dodger are my favorite

  • I think the scene of Dodger picking that pocket while Sikes was dangling over the crowd was really inspired. He must have been coached by a real pickpocket to do it that well. The way he touched the pocket one, two, three times and then lifted the flap. And the aplomb with which he tucked that wallet away and walked off with that look of cool contempt --- wow, I am just in awe of him.

  • they were a different breed of actor back then

  • Lolz Dodger's all, *takes someones wallet...then looks around*

    "You didn't see anything...."

  • Nevermind. I misread.

  • Excuse me, to whoever said he only got the Oscar for stealing a wallet, watch the effing movie. He was AMAZING. He deserved it.

  • He didn't get an Oscar.

  • Oscar award just for the way he reaches for the wallet

  • Jack Wild killed this role like a seasoned pro.

  • @Brenda2OOO and he sang his own stuff, unlike Mark Lester

  • In the actual musical off broadway, I think they did finish with this scene. At least my schooldid:)

  • Yeah, they should have finished with this! And.... they skip off into the sunset. Wow! XD

  • Best part in the whole movie is when the Artful Dodger comes out with the wallet. you just know he's going to review the situation again, lol

  • honestly the first time i saw this movie i just had one continuous mantra thru my head "plz dont kill of fagin. plz dont kill of fagin. plz dont kill of fagin" i would have died a lil myself he got kicked off. so at the end i was overjoyed that he could continue with his nefarious deeds LOL

but still tho, everytime i see it im anxious for him. grand movie.

  • The film should have finished on this scene.

  • @laurenlfc48 I agree, the stars of the film are the villains. We know Oliver will be just fine, but as nice as he is and as sincere and as honest as he is...he's just a gracious bore by comparison. The villains are the heroes here, in all their immoral glory.

  • @laurenlfc48 i don't think so becuase since the film is called oliver! and it's essentially oliver's story, the film ended properly with oliver returning to mr. brownlow's home. but i couldn't think of a better way to end fagin and dodger's storylines than this.

  • @laurenlfc48 - It's where it was supposed to end, just like in the original play. But the studio had to follow a law that said no film can end with a socially negative message or have an antagonist appear to "win" at the end of the film. Because they are celebrating criminality, the studio made them film the scene with Oliver and his uncle and awkwardly insert it in the movie.

  • @Guernicaman

This was the Hays Code which ended in 1968, the year the movie was released.

  • @laurenlfc48

interesting idea. Not sure it would have worked unles it was after the oliver goes home bit, if you're suggesting that then maybe.

  • @laurenlfc48 I agree

  • @laurenlfc48 I agree, that's a beautiful shot to finish on.

  • @laurenlfc48 I thought it DID end on that scene....

  • @WASrul No, there is another scene that just shows Oliver in the house with his new family.

  • @laurenlfc48 it did didnt it?

  • @lululemonxx No it went back to Oliver on the balcony outside his new house.

  • @laurenlfc48 I agree with you
