@vivelavidarocka Well, they were once going to try and replace Jon with Billy Sherwood. I think David is a much better pick. My point is, Yes would have gone on with or without him, just as they did on Drama, so why would this be such a shock to the fans? Quite frankly, I never thought they could replace Steve Howe either, but damn, isn't that Trevor Rabin something else?
Excellent - solid and accurate in all departments (esp. the drummer). I love a good tribute band; people get so po-faced about 'em! Check out Nearly Dan.
Wow, I never thought I'd see a band brave enough to cover YES, you guys really pull it off perfectly! I'd swear I was listening to the record, you guys really have chops, very cool stuff!
Now that he is a member of Yes still don't rate him with Anderson. I have seen him and I thought he came across on stage as thinking his crap didn't stink. I agree he sing's the Anderson part's well but his stage vibe sure don't replace Jon onstage.
These guys are GREAT for a tribute band. In fact, they may be the best I've heard of any tribute band. And as far as the singer, he is as spot on as anyone is going to get to Anderson, and perhaps because he has to deliver as a tribute artist, he's even more precise live than Anderson was. If you've never tried a tribute band, you are absolutely missing out. What's this idea that because the actual band is no longer around, you have to honor them by never giving a tribute band a chance ??..
Unelievable! Of all the tribute bands I've ever heard in general, these guys sound more like the band they're trying to emulate (i.e. Yes) than any other band PERIOD. EXCELLENT!

Yes with a Karaoke Singer...not even close to Anderson. This song..."The greatest Song of All time" needs to be perfect...this guy isn't even close...the YES brand will never be the same. Shame on Howe, Squire and White. Selling out is what it's called. We (true life long YES fans) expected better. You've let us down...I hope the pay check makes you happy.
Yes, unfortunately. But I still like to believe that, for most persons, age does brings a certain degree of maturity... Some exceptions might just be proving the norm :)
@202Hollywood Either you're deaf or we all are. Or maybe dumb enough. My word, what would it become of us without your obviously articulate and pointed remarks. @groovyjazzbeats61 Jon anderson should have stayed with yes. When a new singer joins a band, they will never be the same, even if the new singer has no difference from the original singer.
@202Hollywood I agree 100% with you. There's no Yes without the spiritual voice of the group, Mr. Jon Anderson. Nothing against Benoit, but as a Yes fan from the beginning, I feel sold out by Howe, Squire and White. To bill themselves as Yes and charge Yes prices is an injustice, except for perhaps those too young to have seen the Classic line-ups! I think it would be more fair to bill themselves as Howe, Squire, White and Fugazi Present An Evening of Yes Music.:) Nous Sommes du Soleil!
@202Hollywood have you ever thought that THE BAND wants to tour? maybe they just want to tour again and play yes songs because they love playing them. quit thinking the band has some kind of personal to each and everyone of the members to do what they want. stop thinking about your weird pseudo-personal connection with the band and think if you were in a band and found a guy who sings just like your singer and YOU wanted to keep playing. don't even try and tell me you wouldn't hire him.
I just bought my tickets for the 2011 March 14th show in Jacksonville, Florida. I can't wait. No disrespect to Jon(Anderson) who is one of my all time favorite musicians.Check out Jon's work with Vangelis if you are not familiar with what he has done when not playing with YES in the past.
Was given an orchestra ticket from Tony back in '78 @ MSG while trying to "STUB" my way in (Thank you Tony) I LOVE YES!!! Best LIVE band going. Next to BOWIE'S "Station to Station" performance @ MSG in '78, YES kicks ass. I thank you all!!!
@19HALLOWEENJACK84 Stub your way? We came in from astoria and were the stub kings, many ways to use Knick and Ranger stubs to get passed security to get to the ticket taker. We use to also buy one cheap seat, blue back then and the one guy would get in go up to the blue seats and then walk all the way down the stand pipe staircase and open the door to the street level were there would be 10-20 kids waiting to get in. we all ran up the same stairs to the blue seats.MSG pre- corporate

Nice! It's a big thing to stand in front of such awesome music and try to sing AND sound like Jon, I think you do great job and the rest of the band too! My head still spins that I saw the Close To The Edge lineup when they toured in Australia about 8 or 9 years ago... as a younger guy, I never expected that dream to come true!! Wow, how good can life be! :))
@SibKat He has a great voice and sings almost as godly like as Jon does. So I'll join you in the sarcasm bonfire you set up, hehehe =) Looking forward to Yes Live in Argentina next November!
@jeannelovesjon1 Articulate enough for me. What kind of world are we living in when Yes are hiring cover band members as "hired guns". Jon is well enough now to do his own tour, which means he could be touring with them. Why masturbate when you can have the real thing.
Total mass retain, indeed. Awesome work. Beautiful. Can't believe this is a board mix--it's so close to the album. These guys must have their own Eddy Offord!
Upon looking at your channel, I see that English is most likely not your native language. Therefore, I should have typed: Il goûte comme le poulet. :-)
Okay, I'm sorry it went way over your head, SibKat. I will explain, just for you.
Typically, when trying to define the taste of a particular protein that is not chicken but seems oddly similar to the flavor of chicken, one says: "it tastes just like chicken." I've been told, frog legs, for instance, taste just like fried chicken. CTTE is not YES, but they are very similar. The punchline is often lost when it must be explained in full detail.
I saw Yes last year with this guy fronting them instead of Jon Anderson, due to his heart complications I believe. He was amazing, you could barely tell the difference between him and Anderson at all. Yes was great!
@mickeymarquez Of course, he didn't create this music. Even if I find his voice less dynamic, I presume that he sings well enough so that the orignal members did choose him to perform their music.
This is quite simply stunning, I'm lost for words as to how good this band is/was - I would rather see Yes with this singer then never again. Of course Jon is unique but the band wants to play on.
Jon definitely is the most responsible for most of the great sounds of Yes, but my true love in Yes is the musicianship. I know it sounds like blasphemy, but for me it's easier to watch Yes with a different singer than it would be to watch them without Squire or Howe. Is that so wrong? This Benoit sounds like a good singer to me. We all know Jon is the genius behind much of the songwriting, but not seeing a Yes show because Jon isn't singing seems like cheating yourself out of an experience.
Benoit is not in my opinion a match for Jon as a replacement! He's at best a good stand in but Jon is the true voice that YES Music was and always will be their greatest singer!
Yes, but Anderson has reactive airway disease and can't physically sing anymore without causing severe damage to his airway. I rather him alive than dead, even if he's not signing.
Saw Benoit fronting Yes the last time around here in Nashville, and he definitely can hold his own with Yes music. They could not have picked a better person.
drunksingsheep...: «Close To The Edge» is the name of the band. If you take the time to look at the video for 2 seconds, there's absolutely no confusion whatsoever, oh yeah... sorry, maybe a tiny bit of confusion is possible since our ex-singer is now touring with Yes as their new lead singer... ;)
I would like to see this guy togheter the original members. His voice sounds close similar to Jorn Anderson, more powerful cannot get the higher as Jon does. Anyway, will be a great opportunity for him, and I hope he enjoys to replace a grand master.
I have always been a big YES fan and know their music inside out. I saw them in 1974 in Madison Square Garden and felt like Jon Anderson was going to float up off the stage because he was so ethereal. Just now I thought I was listening to YES and didn't realize it was cover band. Being a self proclaimed officianado on the group I have to give big kudos to this group CLOE TO THE EDGE. That's a lot of dedication and practice to cover YES that well!
Read though comments including one saying the keyboard player isnt as good as Wakeman. Unfortunately Oliver isnt his dad. Actually seen Adam Wakeman play with YES thought he made a better job. More money but did Mr David jump the wrong way i'd watch this lot live rather than YES. Failing that Alan White being replaced with the drummer from CTTE. Only time I was lucky enough to see Bil Bruford drumming was the Union tour. Or Onion as Rick called it.
Saw YES in Manchester far better than I expected, especially after the last tour. Mr David has spent several years in ctte being Jon Anderson. He now has the YES gig for real. Plese Benoit you dont have to run around and do the Jon actions and moves. It was bad enough with Jon originally but that was part of the deal its what he did. Don't coppy the moves they are sad & it looks embarassing. Do your own stuff or if not spontanious.Dig out old films & copy Trevor Horn moves no one will remember
i love these guys--my only comment would be that David is fast with lyrics and the band is fast with the song--it sounds just a little rushed but excellent sound
2:50 APPLAUSE!!!

nixli1980 1 year ago
@jeannelovesjon1 That's really not fair to judge Benoit on your emotion with Jon.
mojo4404 1 year ago
@jeannelovesjon1 Ever think that maybe Jon is just to old to tour or perhaps to even sing?

Total mass retain, indeed. Awesome work. Beautiful. Can't believe this is a board mix--it's so close to the album. These guys must have their own Eddy Offord!

Upon looking at your channel, I see that English is most likely not your native language. Therefore, I should have typed: Il goûte comme le poulet. :-)
DominicJCircolone 1 year ago
Okay, I'm sorry it went way over your head, SibKat. I will explain, just for you.
Typically, when trying to define the taste of a particular protein that is not chicken but seems oddly similar to the flavor of chicken, one says: "it tastes just like chicken." I've been told, frog legs, for instance, taste just like fried chicken. CTTE is not YES, but they are very similar. The punchline is often lost when it must be explained in full detail.
I can only hope this helps, SibKat.
Oy Vey!
DominicJCircolone 1 year ago
@DominicJCircolone
Thanks for the explanation, and therefore thanks for your appreciation of our work!
And sorry for diminishing your «punchline»... ;)

The proverbial, "It tastes just like chicken." somehow seems appropriate.

I saw Yes last year with this guy fronting them instead of Jon Anderson, due to his heart complications I believe. He was amazing, you could barely tell the difference between him and Anderson at all. Yes was great!

Men, I really love John and I know his legacy in music, but this guy not only sings just like him, but in fact he´s technically better.
mickeymarquez 1 year ago
@mickeymarquez Of course, he didn't create this music. Even if I find his voice less dynamic, I presume that he sings well enough so that the orignal members did choose him to perform their music.

@TheManMachineGun he's also younger too, anyways I agree with you

you have to admit, david benoit sounds a lot like jon anderson. in my opinion, it's lucky that someone exists who can imitate such a unique voice.
Flophole 1 year ago
This is quite simply stunning, I'm lost for words as to how good this band is/was - I would rather see Yes with this singer then never again. Of course Jon is unique but the band wants to play on.
justintovideo 1 year ago
Jon definitely is the most responsible for most of the great sounds of Yes, but my true love in Yes is the musicianship. I know it sounds like blasphemy, but for me it's easier to watch Yes with a different singer than it would be to watch them without Squire or Howe. Is that so wrong? This Benoit sounds like a good singer to me. We all know Jon is the genius behind much of the songwriting, but not seeing a Yes show because Jon isn't singing seems like cheating yourself out of an experience.

the voice, the whole song, . very good quality for covering this masterpiece!

Benoit is not in my opinion a match for Jon as a replacement! He's at best a good stand in but Jon is the true voice that YES Music was and always will be their greatest singer!
yestor13 1 year ago
@yestor13 Jon can't sing like this anymore. This guy has earned my respect. I would have paid twenty bucks to go see the cover band.
ajdicks 1 year ago
Yes, but Anderson has reactive airway disease and can't physically sing anymore without causing severe damage to his airway. I rather him alive than dead, even if he's not signing.

drunksingsheep...: «Close To The Edge» is the name of the band. If you take the time to look at the video for 2 seconds, there's absolutely no confusion whatsoever, oh yeah... sorry, maybe a tiny bit of confusion is possible since our ex-singer is now touring with Yes as their new lead singer... ;)

Greeting from Brazil.

COIcultist 2 years ago
Saw YES in Manchester far better than I expected, especially after the last tour. Mr David has spent several years in ctte being Jon Anderson. He now has the YES gig for real. Plese Benoit you dont have to run around and do the Jon actions and moves. It was bad enough with Jon originally but that was part of the deal its what he did. Don't coppy the moves they are sad & it looks embarassing. Do your own stuff or if not spontanious.Dig out old films & copy Trevor Horn moves no one will remember
