Rick Danko, as much I loved the guy, had serious drug issues and made some seriously bad personal decisions. Richard Manual suffered from depression. @ClemsyDiggs Furthermore, the reason Robbie wanted The Band to stop was to try and save their lives. Levon thought he was full of crap, until they started up again in the 80's then whoops someone died.

Robbie didn't just crawl out from under a rock, and truth be told he was the most sober and stable of the members after Garth. All of them are/were great. But Robbie wrote tons of those songs.

Robertson is credited with writing all of The Band's songs because he fucked Levon Helm over, which is why they have been feuding for decades and partially why the band split and never fully reformed.

Also, his guitar playing is decent, but its too mechanical / choppy. It would've been easy to replace him especially since Clapton wanted in.

Robbie wasn't the Band. They were a collaborate effort. But he took liberties and "stole" all the credit for all those song. He essentially ripped his bandmates and "friends" off..Robbie is living like a king while the others have to hustle for work at their age. I've read Levon's book and I agree with you. Robbie took 95% of the song credits and the others got"pencil-whipped" out of their money. When you know damn well they all had a big part in the writing of the music.

The world ain't black and white. Robbie was the business man of the band, no doubt about it. But Levons wrath has also to do with the fact that while Levon and the others had a good time on alcohol and drugs, Robbie hung out with movie stars and money men...That doesn't make him a bad guy...

But It would have been an honorable thing for Robbie not to take full credit for most of the writing when they all contributed. you are right about Robbie, he was the business man and the other guys didn't know what was going on. I guess Albert Grossman infleuence had a lot to do with Robbie's business sense.

I've read Levon's book and, while I really like Levon and believe him to be extremely talented, my jury is out until I read the autobiography that Robbie is supposedly working on. Robbie should have the opportunity to address the accusations and give his version. I do wonder why he hasn't published it yet, though. Is he waiting for Levon to die so he'll have the last word?
