As usual, silken tones! No one will ever come close to Chet, no matter how hard they try (C. Botti, included) Chet's heart comes thru with every note!!!
As Bird said, "If you haven't lived it, you can't play it!"
The mature sound on the horn ,,, something near the 'whisper' technique. Chet's tone speaks through, not the sound of the horn. A way of playing he developed after the loss of his upper teeth. If you study his embrouchure the appearance was markedly different ... yet with both set ups the tone was arrestingly beautiful. For me that is proof that tone is all about pre hearing ...
this is my secondar channell on you tube , primary is disco' 70 (funky -jazz-rock)
i more cd and lp of jazz standard , (tengo muchos cd e lp de jazz) i like jazz , like like but i don't have time for send on you tubemy cd
Davis baker evans adderley rollins flanagan etc etc good piano and guitar , for me this cd is audiotest for my hi-fi loudspeaker self made by danish components ( sound is very good , cd is very beautiful)
Smooth and tasteful as usual .. an innate sense of understatement and economy ... just compare with some of the playing you here nowadays ... higher, faster, and louder ... valve effect sequences ... but none of it touches us the way Chet's playing did / does
Just beautiful!
