  • "producer of the sex human revolution"

  • Turns out the highlighting is better off turned on. Compared to the old Deus Ex, this game has tons of little details in the environments, so it's really hard to find all those little items placed all over the map. When I replayed the first mission again with highlighting on, I found twice as many things because I was able to spot them easily. I just wish I could disable that grid overlay thing, it gives me the feeling that my monitor is really dirty.

Anyway, thanks for listening to us, Eidos!

  • And whay aint the fucking headbob an option you retarded fags?Mny people cant play this game because of that retarded effect

i shit on eidos and on this console port

  • @TheSUBGAMER name says it all

    sub-gamer

  • This is the first game I have purchased in about five years. And this is a pre-order too. The game looks awesome. If you can turn off the highlighting and objective markers, why not the radar too?

  • Eidos earn such big big big respect points for doing this.

Cannot wait to purchase the biggest best collector's edition for DX:HR.

Don't care how much it costs, it's all worth it thanks to you guys Devs.

I fucking love developers and companies like you.

    Thanks,

    From the PC.

  • Probably gonna keep the Objective Locator on, stop from stumbling into it before I'm done exploring. +10 internets for responding to the community.

  • This along with your brilliant communication with the fans and reaction to the leak is what made me preorder your game yesterday. Keep up the good work!

  • Fantastic, I think I'll be playing this on the hard difficulty from the start :) I don't want a wussed down version.

  • and THAT is what a dev-team should do :)

  • @Millicent29776 How is it better?

  • 4 weeks to go until this BEAST comes out!

  • Listening to the customers is key, congratulations Eidos.

It's always good to never forget who is in charge, us.

    Got it pre-ordered!

  • Yeah, the highlight and locator crap is bullshit, i was just about to write a big rant about how I won't buy the game if there is no option to turn that crap off. Tired of all those companies making games that spoon feed you everything. If I want to be spoon fed, I'll go play super mario or something, k thx

  • thank you

  • thank you

  • thank you

  • I'll leave the locator on but I will switch off the highlight, thanks for listening to the fans Eidos. But now a new problem is emerging, in the fact that people are made at the pre order bonuses, I have no problem with this, but what can you do, people like to complain for the sake of complaining.

  • This is what should have happened to the 2 weapon limit in DNF. If the developers had listened to their fanbase they wouldn't have gone ahead with that terrible design decision.

  • Will you be able/willing to allow the option to skip cutscenes that aren't of the 'half-life 2' variety? Also, will you be able to allow the option to spare bosses if Adam Jensen would have a good enough reason to? Finally, how likely is it that you'll be able to allay some people's fears of a Saudi Arabia/Alpha Protocol problem with the first two hours?

  • will you be able to lock into cover in 1st person mode rather than 3rd?

will you be able to perform otherwise 3rd person take downs in 1st person?

options to toggle these things would also be much appreciated.

when i purchase this game, i hope to get the perspective feal i got from the original deus ex.

    thanks for reading.

  • This was the only really annoying thing I saw about the game.

    Can't wait for this.

  • french accent ^^ vive le Québec

  • doesnt add to the immersion it completely takes it away

  • Wait, what's the difference between highlight and locator?

  • @Jammed9000 Locator is the mission way point.

  • @terk0iz

Oh ok. I will probably turn both off.

  • It's nice to see that the developers stand by what they think is a valid and respectable part of their design, but still give us the option. It shows they got balls enough to disagree with fanboys, but still understand what they gotta do to get their money.

  • I wish it was an opt in instead of opt out. I'm not going to deliberately disadvantage myself and I will constantly feel I'm missing something if I don't have it on. It's a stupid feature that should never be there in the first place and is just another example (cover system, regen health, press X to auto stealth takedown) of how most developers are trying to dumb down games to have a larger appeal, while alienating the core fans.

  • @valleyshrew I don't think its that bad. As gamers I'm SURE we've all have moments where we've ran around in circles just because I missed a little item or something. The cover system is just keeping up with the times. Leaning is an outdated mechanic frankly, 3rd person cover works better with the updated AI. I don't know the whole deal with the health system, but the takedowns are augs and completely optional. They need the game to have appeal to a new market because its an industry dude.

  • Optionality is always good. Thanks guys.

  • Thanks for options and not just cutting it all together.

  • I never really saw this as a HUGE deal personally but it's definitely nice to have the option to turn it off (which is what I prefer) so good job listening to the community and doing something about it.

  • JC "This highlighting gives me a headache"

Alex "Don't worry. We disable it when you manage to find a simple box on the floor"

This how design process of this feature should look like.

  • HOLY SHIT, THEY _LISTENED_ ?!

    OH MY GOD

  • Preordered CE thanks guys!

  • I mean basically i see a hollywood mainstream-downloaded game reduced... HD retread of a DX-"style" conspiracy story with graphics that are going for a fully realized modern world BUT are ALREADY dated before release... It does have the correct take on DX THEME but the color scheme is very limited, instead of immersion & style it says "REPETITIVE AFTER 2HOURS OF ME SEEING THE SAME COLOR" the guns look bland the only thing that can save It is the story but everyone focuses on look instead of FUN

  • I'm sorry I''m just not getting It(yet). A HD Deus Ex without the great soundtrack so far, bunch of options to approach gameplay but adding nothing to the depth of the rpg portion or the shoorter portion just riding DX coatail. Bring something new to the table for the franchise thats already unique don't try to HD re-do It then have many diff aspects of gameplay each being subpar only as an "option"(bullet point for sales?) This seems casualized without identity, What will make YOUR DX unique

  • great news. now to take out those one-button-cut-scene-deaths....

  • It was a stupid idea as it only hihlighted gameplay wise objects/characters and not junk or other useless thingies to you guys like thoses bottles and the ladder on the left of the entrance ...

It should be forced on disabled with no way to turn it on at least for the hightest difficulty...

  • Guys - what a BRILLIANT decision. Thank you!! Got my pre-order in.

  • Great devs. It's nice that you have your own opinion, but you also listened to feedback from gamers and gave us the option to have the highlighting or not. Many devs seem not to listen or care.

This game was already a day one purchase for me, since I was a huge fan of the first Deus Ex (and even the second one). Most importantly I think this game is going to be an amazing game in its own right.

  • Well, wow. I'm very impressed. I've played a LOT of PC games over the years and I have to admit that this is the first time I can recall a developer making changes like this based solely on community feedback and discussion. Very smart move. DXHR is one of my most anticipated games of the year. It keeps getting better. Thanks guys.

  • Makes most sense if it uses bioenergy (or whatever it will be called in HR). I'm sure all gamers have played a game and gotten stuck when all you did was miss a small object or switch or something, so a highlight option is definately a good idea, but having it on permanently would just take away from the experience. Really awesome to see devs responding to their community :D

  • thx a lot, without the highlight the inmersion is much better like the old school games!!!

  • Howabout making the (horrible) 3rd person cover 100% optional without forcing people to reduce their ability to succeed in the game?

That breaks the immersion a lot more than a highlighter, and made my hype for this game go from "Holycrapthatlooksawesome" to "Oh. What else is coming out then?" and I haven't been paying attention since, up until I noticed this.

  • See, options are awesome. Instead of the fight with regen vs medkits, why not make an option to pick one?

  • puh very good step :D It reminds me a little bit at Mirrors Edge,Dice put the same option in the game :D

  • awesome, really good that was one thing i didn't like in the vids and wanted them gone, now i can get rid of them :-)

  • yeah guys, its great that you have listened to the community, a lot of developers just dont care. thanks.

  • OMG you guys are awesome ! Day 1 buy for me !

  • Very good move, I say.

  • Making the game you like and want people to experience is always a great thing. Listening to feedback is something equally, if not more important as well. Kudos.

  • Bravo, for once criticism will have a positive impact on a game without the need for an actual beta version. I think that might just be a first.

  • SON I AM PROUD!

  • Kudos to Eidos. The game looks awesome, reminds me of Ghost in the Shell which is a good thing.

  • How do you "dislike" this?

  • options options options always have tons of options yes!!

  • I am glad they listened to us about the highlighter thing. It has made me confident about the game again.

    Good job.

  • This game is looking better and better:)

  • Respect +5

  • It looks a way better with the highlights turned off. I hope you put in more manual control in the hardest setting so the player must find the codes, must find their own solutions to problem and so on. This will make the game a lot more interesting and it will give the player of feeling of control and skill.

  • Glad to see that Eidos listens to what we gamers have to say about the game.

I can't wait to play it when it comes out in august. :)

Encore merci !^^

  • I really love that you guys have listened to your fans. Not a lot of developers do it these days.

  • Oh my goodness. THANK YOU! I am so relieved I won't have to be treated like a six year old console gamer. Those of who who play these games, tend to be the types of people who don't want it fed to us. We love to explore, discover, and be treated as adults. I was questioning buying this game, but now I am buying it for sure (yes, no lie, because of this console feature).

  • So a feature that would have been par for the course 10 yrs ago is cause for these guys to pat themselves on the back? This is what's wrong with modern developers.

This title is looking more and more like console bait to me.

  • @Mindkeitaro You can turn it on if you want. It's not removed, just optional.

  • how about making a game that isnt a contarded pile of crap?

  • Great.

  • You just got me to preorder. This level of respect for the community is great. Eidos, you're ballin.

  • Devs who listen to their fans are awesome.

It's decided, I'll buy the augmented version day 1.

  • The perfect reaction to the complaints.

  • Thank you I do enjoy the addition!

I've been skipping the media for the game because I don't want to spoil anything, I'll buy it anyway one way or another. This looked pretty safe and caught my interest though.

After seeing the comparison I would definitely rather play with the highlighter off and giving us an option is the best of both worlds.

As long as the PC version is a good port I'll be happy.

  • Wow, a large game developer that listens to fans? I get a warm fuzzy sensation when I think they are listening to us.

  • Thanks for listening to the fans.

  • Comment removed

  • @raiki15 To be fair, that was in the original Deus Ex.

  • @marshviperXwins Nobody reminded you every single time that a certain mouse button or key did something, in context.

  • THANK YOU EIDOS, PRE-ORDER REINSTATED!

  • THANK YOUI!!!

  • Went from Day 1 pirate to Day 2 Purchase. Have to make sure the game is still up to snuff of course.

  • Hey Bioware, take a cue from these fine gents.

This just became a day one purchase for me.

  • @Roland1232 exactly my thoughts. Bioware fooled everyone with DA2. They didn't listen to anyone and just did their thing. These guys really went on the net looked up the comments and listen to the fans, now we know how a small change pleases a lot of people

  • Just going to say that you guys rock. Without socks.

    Thank you1

  • I will buy this now because you listen to your fans on such an important issue.

    IMMERSION!!!!!

  • wow. my hate for fans knows no end.

  • Thank flying fuck for this revolution.

  • Who is so fucking dumb they need shit outlined for them? I mean door outlines? How the fuck do you function in real life if you don't know what a door is for?

  • They thought that it increases immersion only if you remove the highlights. I always thought that it gives a challenge to the gamer since it makes you think what to do next.

  • Looks much better now without highlightning. Now I am really looking forward to play this.

  • Guys this is great, the way it should be give the player decent options. Now it's obviously too late now but DX:HR in my opinion would probably surpass MGS and the original DX if Adam could've used a mini UAV or a tiny insect like spy drone gadget and a Splinter Cell type mini cam for under door and corner peaking while infiltrating or even maybe he could access a satelite uplink that would pop up a aug reality video in his view and he could see the whole level top down with enemy patrols.

  • finally this is what were talking about its gona look so much better with it off, the highlighting could be used for the young kids which can be great help for them because they like colour lol

  • Comment removed

  • I was already sold, but now I'm slightly more sold! Can't wait, this game is the reason I'm upgrading my PC. Knowing you guys are French somehow makes me more confident that this game will be true to the DX name. I don't know why...

  • 4 people came here to see JJB and were sorely disappointed.

  • Good job guys. Listening to your customers is a massive thing in successful development.

  • Thank you very much guys! really awesome fan service right here.

  • Sooo much better with it off. Highlights on seems like hand holding. One of the best parts of Deus Ex is exploring and finding different ways. Highlighting allows me to just see what I can skip right over and loose the emersion.

  • I don't see what the BFD is anyway, in case you didn't notice, when you are looking at an interactive object a small box pops up with command options anyway.

  • you earned my money AND respect :) can't wait for the game to be released!

  • these is great but, if they just make it so they only highlight when you look at them, like other games, that would make sense.

  • Thanks Developers!

  • Great stuff guys! Match the defaults to your vision but giving the player options is always the way to go. I hope there are FOV controls and other advanced graphical options too.. Few things more annoying than a game which is locked to a FOV that isn't right for your monitor, forcing you to either tamper with the game files or get motion sickness.

  • Shut up and take my money :D

Seriously though, thank you VERY much for listening to the critique and making it optional. I think having the option to turn it on or off is the best way to satisfy everyone. I am certainly satisfied by this news. Day 1 buy.

  • @MSVai90 Futurama ftw :D

  • TAKE MY MONEYYYYY :D

  • Lol now for the next BIG issue in HR: melee kills: Put some melee weapons in-game so theres a possibility to melee kill/stun without having to activate a insta-kill cutscene !!!!!!!!

  • Thank you EM for giving the option, it's truly appreciated! While the highlighting makes sense in the augmented vision, it also makes sense it can be switched off. Actually I hoped it could've been an in game augmentation you could switch on/off rather than just a menu setting.

  • This is the proper way of doing things - give the players options. I am on the fence on the whole thing myself, I do agree with them that the highlights only make sense since you play an augmented person, however I also see how they can be distracting.

Really, whenever developers listen to the feedback and make well thought out decisions based on said feedback, rather than just changing things because majority of people want it that way, it makes me glad.

  • Thank-You ....You did yourselves a big favor in doing this.Perfect.

  • "ailait"

  • Stupid BS. The highlighting of things you can interact with was just a disguise made to avoid people complaining all the stuff that can not be interacted with. Look at the example in this video how one can interact with the boxes but not the step ladder (which btw. looks like it could have been rather useful).

Next they will present an option to not have ventilation shaft covers open when you approach them and then tell they did it as a personal favor to us.

  • I'm not gonna turn this off tho. Worthless whine. The game has a lot of items, the player needs to know which he can interact with.

  • It keeps looking better and better. Small things like this can make a big difference. I also like the names of the difficulty modes :)

  • @TerraZet Are you trolling or just dumb?

  • Consider another copy sold.

  • Great now just make the level design less like Invisible War.

  • Thank god, Thank you guys.

  • Consider me a convert. Puchased. Thank you for listening to your fans.

  • holy shit yes :D

  • PRESS X TO OPEN DOOR

  • @DrMuganda Huuh? So?

  • This is WONDERFUL news. I love that you guys don't agree that it'd break immersion, but are sensitive enough to fan response to acknowledge that not everyone agrees. This is the mark of a developer that fans can be proud to get behind.

Very much looking forward to release!

  • It was a huge fucking risk. Lives were lost. Wars were fought.

All of it just for us.

    Thank you, Eidos Montreal.

  • @Maxey1

    if object_highlight==true {

//insert all the highlight-related code here, which is already done

    }

    if show_locator==true {

//insert the code responsible for showing the objective locator on screen, already done too

    }

That, and a few lines for additional buttons in the menu to enable/disable these options.

It was kinda irritating when they said they took a big risk for us with this. But oh well, marketing is marketing.

Also: one of the greatest games I ever played.

  • thanks for making it an option.I'ma buy this game now.And I know many who'll do the same, just because you removed the highlighting. It was going on everyone's nerve who's over 16 years old.

  • Great job fellas! As Tony Soprano said: "Those who want respect, GIVE respect"! You have my respect!!

  • I love now that I will have the option to play with it off or on. Thumbs up to the developers. This is why I choose to buy certain games. Will have this game day one for sure.

  • Thank you for (putting the option of) removing the highlights. They annoy people who normally play video games since how to open a door isnt something the gamer forgets every five minutes. I know that games today are made for people who are playing a game for the first time so its understandable that you disagree about the highlights.

Its really no secret that console developers think gamers are freed of any IQ whatsoever.

  • Thank you for this. :)

  • One more thing should be optional. "Press X to open door".. Well, I don't need those kind of reminder so please remove 'svp' (french).

    Btw, youtube Dirk Ex!

  • love you guys! thanks for adding that option! cant wait to play!!

  • Thank you.

  • X sent me!

  • Great, now how about removing the giant "PRESS SQUARE TO TALK" window popping up when looking at a player? 11 to 14 years after HL1 and Deus Ex does anyone really need to be reminded that they can interact with characters which aren't shooting you? Fucking consoles...

  • simply: Thank you :) More immersion for me. I cant wait to dive into the transhumanist opus you created :)

  • Thanks, Eidos.

  • Man, French Canadian accents. "yellow 'ighlight"? "ta players"? But hey, us American's technically are the ones with the accents.

And I'll be darned, it actually does look better without the yellow 'ighlights'. I was skeptical about that argument, thinking it was just trolls bitching.

  • Fucking took you long enough.

  • @Duterasemis Calm down, at least they did it.

  • The fact that this needed a community uprising to even get implemented is kind of silly to begin with.

  • Brilliant news. Thanks for listening!

  • "which we totally disagree with" - that still makes me wonder if they know what they're doing. Immersion is a fickle thing for serious gamers - DX had a box around objects if you moved really close to let you know you selected it - but this game just highlights everything nearby. If they don't see how such a thing would jar the game immersion, I kinda despair about the developers out there today.

  • thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • While I don't care about this option, I think its going to make a lot of people happy.

  • X MINECRAFT X INGGFOSNMSABDJASBDASDASDBASDA

  • Looks good to me. Glad they listened to people since IMO it looks much better without the highlights an will make exploration more interesting.

  • There you go...OPTIONS OPTIONS OPTIONS!!!

  • Ahhh, they listen! <3 much love to Eidos, thank you!

  • The idea of showing the levels as levels, that is, showcasing the content of the levels without an indicator (e.g. highlights) of what can be interacted with, forces the player to explore. Giving the player the option to turn this feature on or off, to match a player's sense of exploration, is simply wonderful.

  • @smudboy After playing the first mission, you'll see that playing with the highlights off, for the sake of exploration of the level's content, amounts to boringly inspecting dozens of cluttered laboratory/office tables in search for tiny data chips, snack bars and other small objects to make sure you don't miss any along the way (and you end up missing half of them anyway). That, and realizing halfway through the game that you can open desk cabinets. Then again, one can enjoy it, so options FTW!

  • @raiki15 Yes, there were litteraly hundreds of extra rooms full of hackable computers and junk throughout the whole game. After a while, I ended up skipping most of that crap

  • Comment removed

  • good shout, better to have the option and not need it, then to need it and not have it

  • Thanks for the option!

  • thank you so much for listening to your fanbase! You guys rock! Ubisoft Montreal always made/makes good games.

  • @MrUpload They're not from Ubisoft Montreal... They're from Eidos Interactive.

  • @ilovelctr oh snap, you are so right. I'm kinda ashamed right now. How could I forget DE was Eidos. Thank you!

  • @MrUpload Man, that's understandable, cause it's Eidos Montreal, that's why it's easy to mix up them with Ubisoft Montreal : )

  • Love options...thanks for listening guys!

  • I was with you guys that it makes sense in the context of the PC (player character) that the highlighting would be a part of the game reality, but I'm still really pleased to see you listened to the community about making it optional, and not only that, made two separate options for objects and _objectives_ which I see myself using one and not the other a lot of the time.

    Thanks guys!

  • I will play with highlights on as I want to feel like this super powered augmented dude but options are great so well done for putting them in. My pre-order has been in for months now and I cannot wait.

  • Preordered the Augmented Edition the other day. Stoked to hear my cash is supporting such a cool team. Even if it's a trivial thing, it's still really neat that they actually responded to the community so quickly. I think it's easy to say a lot of teams out there wouldn't bother.

  • X...
