It is a lovely piece indeed. I've improved it quite a bit. Haven't yet heard your recording, but my guess is that you have handily surpassed my amateur efforts. If I've played a small part in popularizing this little gem, I'm happy.
have you just finished studying this? It's marked "Quasi allegretto", quite fast for a nocturne-type piece. on the contrary, your hands have very good position for someone who hasn't take any formal lessons. how long did it take you to study this? i'm reading it now as my new assignment, and those chromatic thirds make me nervous seeing them all around.
I used to play this piece. It is beautiful, technically advanced and pretty much unknown, which makes it even better in terms of forming a repertoire and surprising an audience. Your interpretation is very beautiful.
I will, skycastles79. I've livened it up quite a bit, and I added an original flourish at the end (ala Rosenthal). I changed some melody phrasing, too, to match a lovely vocal recording of the original song I found here. I'm waiting to get some technical changes in place to make recordings that are perhaps a little better quality.
What I hear in this piece is the motive from Polish Pastorale, carol, from XVIII century, very popular nowadays as well, called" Lulajże Jezuniu" moja perełko. Translated: "Sleep little Jesus" my little pearl. It is a beautiful carol, one of my favourite. You may listen to it on YT. Greetings,
You have good music. You need to have a good piano teacher. You cannot learn the art of piano playing from the comments on your videos. Also, you need a piano. Don't waste your time, go get a teacher.
Thanks for you frank comment, joe. I agree with you. My position might be a little different from yours: I have had a few teachers, and I loved them-- especially the first two, Doris Theall and Harry Whittemore. It's not that I use YouTube as a substitute teacher. But at 58, I play just for the personal fun, and YouTube is a nice way to share and get reactions. Do you teach? Do you play?
Trop lentement..
I am very sorry that I cannot understand your message; I believe the first comment is "too slow". You are right; until recently I had only one very old recording as a model; I will keep working on it. Thank you. Perhaps I can have your comment translated.
Thank you, pushkinchopin. It is difficult to find information about this piece. Do you happen to know-- was it a vocal before Chopin/Liszt adapted it, or is the song an adaptation of this piece? Any info is appreciated.
I have looked for this recording locally without success. So I'm taking the train to Harvard Square today in search of it, and some sheet music that I need. Looking forward to hearing it!
I watched this vid a lot when I was studying this piece. Very nice indeed!

Thank you, skycastles. I've worked on it quite a bit, and I will record another 'take' when I get some technical recording matters taken care of.

When you post the next recording, please let me know.

The nuance of your delivery on this piece is just flawless. The RH melody sings beautifully. *****

Nice. YOu might like to hear Charles Rosen playing it on his "Romantic Generation" CD.
