Very good point. We only had a 3 man ladder crew and they were assigned to vertical ventilation. Ground ladders were never reassigned. Our SOGs call for at least 2 ground ladders to every upper level (including the roof). This is especially important since we had crews operating on the 2nd floor. Thanks for the comment!
Becarful shooting from the outside in. It has the effect of pushing the fire through the house. Really try and work from the uninvolved to the involved. Good job considering vertical vent. especially since this looks like a balloon framed building. Vent should always be as important as the interior work.
Bigger hose, more water on the first line shown, pressure seemed to be a issue also. Later in the vid at the front door....ppe control of the persons at the scene. Alot of people running around with out full PPE. How did the vertical vent go? What changes in the conditions were seen with respect to the balloon construction and the wall fire?
Vertical ventilation was the only way to relieve the heat and smoke built up in the attic. Our interior crews had the walls and ceiling pulled inside and vertical ventilation worked well.
Who is the guy in the yellow shirt? In your helmet cam vid he tries helping pull off the hose. Is he just some civilan getting in the way or is he a off duty fireman? In this vid he looks likes he is trying to help the ladder company too. Just wandering because if he is a civilian with no ties to your F.D. wheres law enforcement?
I assume Wellston is a volunteer department. Ques; I wonder why they put the Tower up...looks like a slate roof, and the fire "appeared" to be getting under control from a "interior attack?" Nice video...keep up the good work. :-)
We are a combination department. 1 FT guy per shift. The roof is asphalt shingle and we ended up ventilating the roof due to vertical extension. This was a balloon frame house and fire was located in the attic just after knockdown.
great video!!
