I have a possible theory as to why there's so many new weapons and equipment: alot of it might have been just experimental or just in it's prototype phase and some was left behind while the planet was being glassed while the rest was being upgraded to the finished product like the DMR, Assault rifle , S-Laser and so on.

If you have the limited edition and read Halsey's journal it will become apparent as to why there are armour abilities. It seems that ONI make their own Spartans that can use armour abilities. In noble team all the spartans are fake... apart from Jorge.... note, you also never see him use an ability. These are test spartans that have nothing to do with Halsey's experiment, however MasterChief in the rest of the Halos follows Halsey's armour to the extreme, which cannot use armour abilities.

The Reach version was the Army's version. But you see the marines in the closing cutscene of Pillar of Autumn (level) use the MA37 when they should be using the MA5B. The changes are more likely due to balancing the gameplay.

I think the reason there is better stuff in reach is because they are spartan 3's and MC was a spartan 2. The pillar of autumn had only stored a few guns which might be why halo 1 had less guns than halo 2( I know they werent thinking of putting in other guns at the time). MC gets better armor in halo 2 which is why his health recharges. The DMR was upgraded to the BR(stronger & faster) and the Assualt rifle was upgrade too. I can't explain the elites, But who cares It's just a video game!

lol, S-IIs were better equipped than S-IIIs. You got it in reverse.

Also, yes, the PoA only had a few guns, they barely got away as it is without spending time on finding some Spartan Lasers to take with them. Also, no, the AR wasn't "Updraded" that was merely technology improving in RL. Back when Halo: CE was released, Bungie didn't have the tech to make the AR look that good, since graphics weren't that good.

@TacoTown254 No, the Spartan III's (if you read the Ghosts of Onyx) didn't have shields, they didn't even have the same armor. They had a weaker varient to the S-II's armor called the SPI armor

my theory of why there are more stuff in reach than the other games is that they left in a hurry chasing the covenant ship going to the first halo and master chief was in cryo sleep or something and the pillar of autumn was not stocked recently. And for 2 and 3, reach probaly had more resources than wherever they were in 2 and 3 and again all ammo for the other ammo was out and since most of the spartans were dead they didn't give a shit about armour abilities though i don't claim to know much.

I don't really like the armor abilities. Halo is IMO about gaining power weapons, these boosting orbs (eg overshield) and equipment (eg bubble shield), and working together as a team. Armor abilities kinda ruin that a little bit.
