  • I'll take Nils over shredders like EVH any day......Nils plays with soul.

  • There is no one to beat Bruce. OK, the guy is a milionaire, but who cares. He has earned every dime. When he makes these songs, it comes right from his heart. The unsung hero for me is always Max Weinberg. He never makes a mistake and the guy has gone through several wrist operations. "Born in the USA" was mainly made by him. Bruce just said:"give me a beat" and he did give The big Beat. I' ve sen the band in 2008 in Helsinki. The best gig I've ever seen. Lasted about 3hours and 30 min. At 29 C.

  • There are eight people walking this planet who bring shame to humanity!!!

  • Nice solo on that folk song!

  • Fantastic, just fantastic!

  • now that's a real music... all those so called "musicians"nowdays, who make they "music" only by singing about sexy asses or fuckin' another bitch will never be able to compare with someone as great as Bruce is : ) true emotions, passion... you can feel it so much even by watching this on youtube... I can't even imagine how it was like to be there and see it live : )

  • One hell of an amazing solo!!!!!

  • Truly an underrated masterpiece, I'd say

  • @Bugattiman1011 Saw this on tour several times and Nils' solo was the highlight each night. I shook my head at the masses heading for the bathroom. They had no idea.

  • IM FROM THE NORTHSIDE A RAYEN GRADUATE WHAT A VOICE WHAT A VOICE

  • I don't get why somebody even vote it down

  • Very, very nice guitarsolo. Sadly, his voice was once better.

  • It's almost as if Nils has been struck by lighting. What a incredible solo.

  • One stage, so many legends...

  • 5:40 a genious knows he's just made somethin' amazin'

  • WOW

  • I`m 39years now and started to play guitar from age of 15. Still this Nils Lofgrens solo is not from this planet. He´s talking to God or something with that unique gift one in a billion. Couple years ago I heard this here in Finland in Helsinki and I almost bursted to tears, this takes you speechels for a moment. Technique and improvising is almolst impossible to understand which hand is doing those harmonics and benging and which order. Also great melody, arr. , E-Street and Boss

  • The best of the E Street Band @ 4:16.

  • not really a big bruce fan, but i herd this in the car and the solo is fucking insane.

  • When will US workers stop fighting each other over race, gays and god, and instead ban together to make the economy serve us, instead of us serving the economy. "Those big boys" have got us divided just the way they like it.

    Arrest Don Blankenship!

  • i live in youngstown. it sucks.

  • @maddawgzzzz

but NILS ROCKS the guitar solo....so there's that....

  • Just blows me away!

  • His music keeps getting me all Bruced-up, and ready to have a good day

  • notes are flying out of Nils guitar likes bats out of cave!

  • @sophiesage I love Nils solo on this song. Just so powerful. Couple that with Bruce's voice. This is a true testament to the spirit of the working American that Reagan's America forgot

  • @sophiesage

    HOLY GUITAR SOLO BATMAN!!!

  • @sophiesage Yeah, but let's face it. Nils is no Eddie Van Halen. That's quite easy to play if U have palyed guitar for 30 years. Ed is one of my favorites. Doesn't make this solo any worse.. It is the freakin' band that makes this so good.

  • Nills, you're amazing man!!!!

  • Dobre!!!

  • YEEEEAAAAHHH

The E-Street Band rocks... BRUCE <3

  • HENDRIX IS ALIVE!!

  • la versione live molto piu rock e intensa che quella in studio è una della mie favorite dell ultimo periodo del boss..grande canzone

  • once I made you rich enough...rich enough to forget my name...impressive song and impressive Nils solo...just great.

  • about people being treated as expendable... said Bruce

  • Nills...

  • When I die I don't want no part of heaven

I would not do heaven's work well

I pray the devil comes and takes me

To stand in the fiery furnaces of hell

  • astonishing!

  • yes.. and NILS solo...sooooooo good

  • Que grande es Bruce!!!

  • This song represents everything about where our nation came from. It also paints a picture, respecting the hard working women and men, who did nothing more than try to provide for their families. When the day was done, the day was done.

I love this song for so many reasons.

  • This song get`s under my skin! Never thought, its possible to convey such a feeling by singing a song about this. Not bad!! Gratulation to the BOSS and his staff!!!!!!

  • His STAFF????

Do you speak of the earthquaking, window breaking....air conditioner shaking...LEGENDARY "E STREET BAND"?

    no staff here

  • OMG! How could I !!!!????

Of course I meant the great E-Street-Band, would say something like "his team". Never in my life I would offend the only band, which whole members I know by name. I´m buying a better dictionary!!!

    ( + . + ) ( - . - ) ( _ _ )

  • The finest musician ever to have walked the planet. No one can or ever will be able to touch the legend that is Bruce.

Long may he continue to enchant us.

  • agreed !

  • that solo is insane...

  • so true, nils is totally off the chain, like some wild burning bush with steel strings on a mountain top...

  • Yo BIGCHINASEAN the DICKHEAD. These are Springsteen brothers from other lands. Appoligise now dick, or i'll get nasty. Let me say 'sorry' 4 this section of the USA, they didn't graduate High school or their mothers beat'em. See, don't get me started Mr Bigchinasean, just say what u have 2 say...

  • una de mejores canciones del jefe!

se me ponen los pelos de punta cada vez qe la oigo

  • qu'est-ce que c'est beau :)

  • Consett...a town in County Durham UK.

  • hey superbruce where in the rds were you

  • niles rips it

  • Bruce Played This In Ireland Last Sunday Night. How Do I Know That? Well I Was There That's How I Know

  • yeahh....me too.. I was in that gig in Dublin...this is one of the best song of Bruce...boss n.1!

  • Everyone... The more I listen to this song the more it reminds me of small town America, Canada , Europe and everywhere else where we have "one horse towns". I can't stop thinking of where I grew up everytime I listen to this song!

  • I grew up in a Northern Ontario City called Sudbury Ontario. When I listen to this song it reminds me of home. We were a mining city with Interntional Nickel once employing as many as 25,000 employees in the mid to late 70's. Today less than 3500. I draw so many comparisons between this song and my home town!

  • yep

  • great song. dedicate this to bernard hopkins.

  • he sings it and they play it like they truely feel it from the heart. and that's why we love them.

  • @beltonmarty As a California resident, Bruce opened my mind up to the world of the Back east blue collar working man just like Robert Johnson opened my mind up to the world of the Delta sharecropper. Bruce has the true American Spirit and God Bless him for it

  • Great comments here, but I wish more people would talk about the lyrics...it really is ashame what greed has done to this great country...cities like Ytown have been destroyed by the great of big companies...all to the detriment of the working man, and our gov't hasn't given a shit about it....thank you Bruce for trying to stand up for all of us.

  • True. I don't live in Yongstown. Not even in the US, but even here on the other side of the atlantic ocean I understand the problem you got over there. 'Cause it's a problem here in Europe too that big companies destroy towns and ruin the hard working men and women. Hope Obama do something about this. It's the worker who needs to get honored, not his boss.

It's nice how Bruce always sing for the prey, never the hunter. (<--- Get my point?)

  • Absolutely....he sticks up for the common working man.

  • Well. There is a fine line between capitalism and governmental control. Your country chose the first one and the first one only.

  • I agree, we went too far in that type of policy, and now , we are making up for it by going a bit too far the other direction w/ gov't bailouts of the banksters that put us into this worldwide recession...IMO, there needs to be a good mix, the gov't shouldn't be bailing companies out, and yet, they should strongly regulate business so that workers and consumers aren't taken advantage of...

  • Bruce, if you for some strange reason read this...

Please play this in Stockholm Sweden the 2. night! This is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. Maybe this is the best song ever written in this world!

  • I agree, best song ever imo

  • What a fantastic solo by Nils.

  • that's why he was asked to join the E Street Band ;) he's awesome.

  • Un-fucking-speakable

  • Nils really let her rip on the solo....very nice.

    This song is soooooooooo POWERFUL..

  • i live in youngstown oh... hes talking about the rise and decline of our steel mills.... youngstown (the mahoning valley) used to be one of the biggest steel producers next to pittsburgh... used to have a population of 170,000 people in the city. now its down to 73,000, which doesnt sound like a lot, but its a big city, its just theres so much crime and drugs that no one wants to live in the actual city.. its a dangerous place to live.. i love my city, and i hear it used to be great

  • awsome

  • THE BOSS.

  • It's amazing how Nils plays the whole solo without a pick.

  • Nils is my uncle :)

  • if he is, thats awsome if hes not ur a sad lowlife prick who has to say stuff like that for attention

  • Yea sure ok and im gonna believe that. If its true though thats awsum and im sorry. I doubt it is.

  • Using a thumb pick. Look closer.

  • Just boss

  • Chilling. The sheer...meaning behind the writing (plus the awesome music) is incredible

  • Go KELLY i work in the MILLS of the valley for us do it.

Good luck and GODS SPEED !!!

  • wtf

  • goast of tom joad-one of his best albums. my sweet jenny im sinking in...

  • The Boss just gives me the shilver!!

  • It's a heart-stopping, hard-rocking, earth-quaking, nerve-breaking, history-making, legendary, "to tears-moving" performance. Bruce's THE BOSS!!

  • This gig still brings shills!!

And I've seen it about a million times!

    W O W ! ! ! :)

    Thanks Boss!

  • powerful....wow

  • wow

  • One of the best ROCK performances of all time is this Youngstown Live if you asked me. Pure ROCK.

  • Nils is really playing his heart out in this song. I`ve never heard such frustration and desperation in a guitar solo. Excellent!

  • You should have seen him on Because the night (Milan, 25. 06. 2008.), he completely lost control, incredible solo.

  • 7.28.08 at giants stadium tops everything. that front dive was too amazing for words

  • Great Song!

    Who wrote the song?

    Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Bruce Springsteen wrote the song. It was on his album The Ghost of Tom Joad.

  • I love Bruce's music so much, however I didn't like The Ghost of Tom Joad. It was just TOO different, I like Bruce's more powerful, upbeat rock songs. This song is awesome though.

  • Joebot64: I agree, I also like the more powerful upbeat Bruce songs. This is theYoungstown version on 'roids.

  • Who do you think wrote it? LOL

  • Now go and listen to the original under this title...(Springsteen "Youngstown" Montage) and you will hear the subtlety of that version I refer to and hear how effective it is without that solo.

  • Nils Lofgren, and this solo in particular, are beyond awesome.

As good as any rock guitar player ever.

  • Nills amazing! and soulful

  • thanks for the video.Beautiful song,beautiful singer,beautiful band.God bless Danny

  • Niiiiiiiiiillllllllllllllsssssssssssssssssssss !!!!!!! THE NEEDED GUITAR HERO !!!!!!!

  • Youngstown is awesome and Bruce Springsteen is the best, a true legend!

  • nils ftw

  • bbbbruuuuuuuuuuccccccceeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rock and roll, turn up the treble and crank it up. I'm here with you, doing the same.

    David

  • "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Live In New York City" the DVD is available.

The concert was his renunion tour.

  • Is it some way that i can get only the sound? So I can listen to it in my Ipod?

  • purchase Bruce Springsteen Live in New York City 1999 that is where this track is recorded.

  • This is the best ive ever seen!!!

  • Amazing! Where and when was this version performed?

  • Madison Square Garden, New York City, 2000

  • I think it was 2001.

  • Still good to me.

It tells a story larger than the song doesn't it? There is pain in his voice, there is pain in our nation now.

What about the election? Are we screwed or what? Who will you vote for? It is like "pick the best of the worst" isn't it?

Good luck to all of us and remember the truth is here somewhere.

We have all become Youngstown, a thing of pain and regret.

I don't normally sound negative but we are in trouble here. There are no good decisions, only options.

    Your friend,

    David

  • only options...

    well said

    like die, or die faster

  • Thank you brother!

    Your friend,

    David

  • your quite welcome

  • i live in youngstown

  • You can start to wonder... The solo is so perfect that you think it might is a playback. Not saying it is at all!!!!

But it is the most fantastic solo I have ever heard.

  • You can start to wonder... The solo is so perfect that you think it might is a playback. Not saying it is at all!!!!

But it is the most fantastic solo I have ever heard.

  • This the the E Street band at there best.. Nils is AWESOME...A Master Guitarist

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • Damn. The passion Nils shows in the solo. Stunning.

  • Excellent Springsteen. Born and raised near Youngstown, I watched the city die a cancerous death. Through the falling of the steel mills and the closing of doors, it never made it back and probably never will. Great rendition of the fall of a great city!

  • The BEST guitar solo I have ever seen. The guitar player (?) and drummer really have something happening there! Unbelievably Excellent!

  • agree.. get chills when i hear this version of the song, And the ending solo, damn!

  • What a tremendous band! What a wonderful voice on Bruce:) Nothing less than superb!

  • I love this song but that solo is just a bunch of soulless notes. No feeling to it.

  • you've got to be kidding..it is easily one of the best guitar solo's ever

  • No kidding!

  • You must be mentally challenged. Nils is one of the best in business.

  • Need he be mentally challenged to feel that way? I appreciate his guitar work, but as an ENORMOUS fan of the original version I feel that they lost the song in this version. Especially so in the solo.

  • Hey I appreciate you seeing my perspective on the solo. Even as a fan that doesn't mean every note, vocal, beat etc has to be liked. The solo sounds like he's trying too hard to have emotion & feeling while trying to be technical at the same time. It does get "lost" compared to the original. The whole song sounds too orchestrated and attempts to be BIG for the live performance. The subtlety of the original speaks louder than this without being loud or overdone.

  • Good thing these people don't know where we live.

  • nils solo makes me cry

  • it speaks to the average american who has lost their job to the exodus of manufacuturing jobs oversees and along with them the american dream great song bruce it the BOSS see you in march bruce rock om

  • Where is Youngstown?

  • Youngstown is in northeast Ohio. It's about an hour away from Cleveland and Lake Erie.

  • Being from youngstown I love this song but this song means just more to people from here. It's a song about many cities and the country after all the mills closed. Great song nills was sweet and bruce of course rules.

  • i think it means alot to anyone from around that part of the country. like from pittsburgh to youngstown ohio, this song can fit many of those people and how they felt and what happened to them following the closing of the mills.

i think its amazing and i love bruce!

  • amazing skills and technique from Nill. Maybe a bit underestimated by many Bruce fans... but he's the best!

  • Nils kills!!

  • USA USA USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Great song, and what an awesome guitar solo from Nils.

  • Does anyone know if this amazing show is available on DVD?

  • Yes it is it is on his Live in New York DVD...one of the great DVD's a must for Springsteen fans

  • Of course! This is from the greatest music DVD ever, Bruce Springsteen & the E-street Band, live Madison Square Garden.

  • better than anything that is on born in the USA This t me is real America and i am a Brit

  • Nils gives this a great rip. Like a Bach haunting melody with distortion. He knows what he's doing

  • Chills all over

  • Heart of gold, all seeing, loves life and hates the truth.

  • Tell it brother.

  • Born there.

  • love the song

  • Jwlly pavlik should use this

  • A CLASSIC

  • Keep guns god and gays off the plate kids, vote JOBS.

  • i also met nils. i was taller than him when i was 10 uears old haha

  • i love nil's solo

  • SOLID! SOLID! SOLID!

    What else can I say?

  • Singing about the toughest working city in america. Toughest city period. Eriee like the Gordon Lightfoot "the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"

  • Ben Stiller sure can lay down a tasty solo......rock on Ben......rock on.

  • top 10 best guitar solos in the history of rock

  • Also in my top ten, for sure!

Nils Löfgren has some serious skills, just listen to those harmonics.

-PS Mr. Springsteen does a very nice job as well =)

  • This is the best version I've ever heard of this song. Lofgrens guitar solo is amazing! Thank you Springsteen for giving me goosebumps all over!

  • This Nils solo is technically brilliant. When he and Max are jamming together the notes are flying out of his guitar like bats out of a cave!
