I keep hearing about people hating Elena for not going after Damon, but I don't hate her for it at all! I totally understand and love that she doesn't think that she's in love with him-- it makes it more real. She's simply in denial but it's plain to see she's just as in love with him but because she's such a nice person, she's fighting her feelings so she doesn't hurt Stefan's!

Yeah Elena, you're fooling yourself if you think you could not fall for Damon. Everyone knows that you're nearly mostly there and in the Vampire Diaries, Elena does fall in love with Damon and is with him for awhile, but then Damon becomes selfless/gives into his demons and leaves Elena to save her and she gets back together with Stefan, or at least it's assumed that she does.

He and Elena fell in love too quickly, i mean, they just saw each other and hit off. But damon and elena had time to get to know each other, they sometimes hated each other or liked each other or were thankful to the other one...their relationship prospered slowly but far more deeply!

@tinaluvu1 In the books Elena is in denial for the first half of them. She keeps in her mind "I love Stefan" and thinks that whenever she starts thinking of Damon. It is almost like an auto response. The second half of the series she finally admits she DOES love Damon. It will be a slow climb, with lots of buildup..but thats what makes this couple so great. The build up!! :O)

The books are VERY different from the show.

Latest: Stefan was the one who was supposed to become human to be with Elena, but accidentally Damon turns human instead. That's literally where the book finishes.

In the books there is a lot of Damon and Elena action, especially in book 5 and 6.

However they find themselves getting closer & closer every day. There are a lot of incredible scenes between them that you just think "wow, they were made for eachother" Damon says to her in that book they were meant to be & Elena agreed that it felt right with him but that she had something to do first which is free Steph
