sometimes I think the amish have it right... Just look at the damage we've done in the past 100 years with autos and electricity. were fuckin choking ourselves out with all the shit thats being made!! just think theres a factory polluting the air churning out rubber dog shit as I type this.. do we really need a thousand fuckin choices of toothbrushes
@sincityskywalker sorry to break it to you but thats a LIE, 1 volcano puts out more CO2 than EVERY CAR SINCE FORD's MODEL-T. There is global warming look @ mars, the polar ice caps are melting there too so I guess Al Gore thinks we did that too.... The Government doesn't care if you drive a hybrid or an suv, they want the TAX'S and even want to add an extra tax on electric/or hybrids because the tax on gas for the roads will decline if you don't buy gas. Learn the truth not the HIPPY HYPE
They use lots of mechanical means, however there are certain things some Amish shun; .like rubber tires, plastics, and electricity. Some Amish do use regular tractors.
and i see u have comments pending approval. must get a lot of hate about slavery of horses u filthy bastards. what if we went to a horse world and they used us like that huh? exactly go fuck urself white boy farm boy red neck hick
My dad had to drive a hay wain like this on his half-brother's farm when he was like 12 or so -- Back then, hay balers were uncommon, and expensive and the hay was commonly put into the barn loft loose. Tractors were very expensive too, my Dad said -- This was before WW2.
I am calling BS on the Amish here. They are using technology that is 50 years old, but refusing to use modern equipment? In 50 years they will be using today's equipment? Why wait? That old diesel power-unit is way dirtier and less efficient than anything "modern". The horse-drawn balers you see on Youtube have engines inside the baler. They aren't powered by the baler-wheel. You all should come to Iowa for a steam show or similar event. Heck come volunteer a day.
@atcaleb Actually no, they're using natural methods to farm. It doesnt matter if its 50 years old, its natural. Now if that thing had an engine. GOOD FUCKING GAME AMISH.
@TekBubs You didn't see or hear the engine on the baler in the second half? It's the thing with the exhaust pipe and big belt powering the baler. Natural?
@atcaleb NO ITS NOT RUNNING ON OIL ITS MAN MADE IDIOT LEARN THE ROPES OF OUR WAYS. JUST BECAUSE WERE AMISH DOESNT FUCKING MEAN WE CANT USE OUR OWN STUFF YOU IGNORANT
@Plum369 Each amish community has different rules to what they consider an exception in technology for them to use. Some drive cars but it has to be all black. Some have community phones in case of emergencies to call the cops or ambulance. Others do not allow any exceptions at all.
@yakyakyak69 well you can always sell an old tractor and use the money to buy some food, or if you wish, one of these contraptions... and Oil will not be running out ANYTIME soon guys, you just all believe whatever the media tell you, this earth has HUGE reserves of oil still!
@BeAnBeAn22 You guys do know that my comment abut eating the old horse was supposed to be a joke. However I do have great respect for the traditional methods of "getting-er done".
Why spend $4 a gallon on gas (more for diesel) powered heavy machines, when you can use a horse that can do just about any kind of job you put in front of it? That, in my opinion, is more "retarded" than paying a few grand for a tractor that'll break down in a few years, after putting in a couple million dollars of fuel and parts into it. Just remember, history has this nasty habit of repeating itself. Draft horses have been used for farming/logging since 3,000 B.C. Don't judge the wise Amish
being from enland i didn't realise amish people actually exsisted, what a bunch of retards! i think whatever device those horse's were pullin along classes as a form of modern technology not to mention that even newer jd conventional baler and the engine running it that your using, why do you people insist on being a century behind the rest of the planet, get with the times!!!
A bit like the old man, he likes to make jobs twice as hard as they need be for no reason as well...! Why not just take the baler round the field behind a tractor and be done with it? If the Amish object to "modern" technology, why aren't they living in caves and throwing stones at wild animals? All technologies are "modern" at some time
waw i see this stile first time

lol they use horses to collect the hay then take it over to a gas powered bailer ??

They use horses to make the hay but they have an internal combustion engine to power their hay baler? That doesn't make any sense.

@waveman1500 Perhaps there's a horse on a treadmill behind that hay bales. ;-)

Now that is an old fashion way of doing it. I wonder if they salt it down when they put it in the barn. Nevermind I see they use a baler later.
