@imperceptibleme eight days?! Do you have a wood burning fireplace to offer any heat? All I can think of is if that happened in Minnesota in December (or January) when the temperature drops below -0F for days... well we'd be huddling by our wood burning fireplace (hoping there's nothing blocking the chimney because we've never even used our fireplace!) ...now I just remembered we don't have firewood. Hah - but we have some outdated encyclopedias next to the hearth! :)
Hello, John. brojoghost. It is kind of cool to have the power out in the evening/night. You get to use candles. Our power was out yesterday morning from about 5 am to 10:30 am. No coffee. Coffee isn't as important in the evening as it is in the morning! Just look - you can work the way the monks used to - by candle light. It is good to see you! - roc
Power went out briefly at my house yesterday afternoon, but I was not home. It stayed a comfortable 23.3 degrees Celsius in the house.
During a power outage last summer, I found that 5 candles is a good number to read by. I set them all on a chair next to my favourite reading chair and it was nice. That was when I was reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for the first time.
@Cadwaladr A couple years ago we lost power and I needed a shower, but our bathroom has no windows. No matter how many candles I put on the counter, it still wasn't very bright. It could just be me, but showering in the dark is unsettling.
@brojoghost Yeah, I wouldn't like showering in the dark. I'd probably have my Maglite in there with me. It's waterproof, so no worries about that, and when you set it down, standing on end, pointed at the ceiling, it really brightens a room.
@vclamp I blame my neighbors, because there is relatively little power consumption at my house. My lights are CFLs and LEDs and we didn't have much running when we plunged into darkness. Damn neighbors! :)
I was wondering if any other Minne-Tubers had lost power. We lost power for an hour in Medicine Lake. But that was at 1pm when everyone had the AC on full blast... Kinda strange yours went out after dark... OH! I know. Massive solar flare happened earlier... maybe some strange surges are still running through the system. Well hey, I normally been living rough. Some rechargeable batteries and a Walkman are all a guy needs to get through the night. Candle light is peaceful. Looks like my RV ;)
@rayofminneapolis and when I went to bed the power was still out, and I realized how dark night is. I grew up in the rural fringes of Stillwater before it had any subdivisions, so it was actually dark at night. Since then, I moved to suburbia, and after 9 years, I STILL haven't gotten used to city lights shining around my curtains. It was nice to lay in bed and not be able to see a difference when my eyes were open or closed. :)
Dang! Everyone with their power outages and all! Roc lost power today after talking about power outages in her videos. lol. Been forever since I've seen a video from you. Good to see you, hope you're doing well.
@DanielSayWhat I was surprised how long we were in the dark, being in the suburbs. It happens from time to time, but usually for just a few minutes. When I was growing up in rural Stillwater, it was fairly common and sometimes was out for days, other times like windy days when tree branches touched the power lines, it would be on & off rather chaotically.
I have been doing well, still working at the Cross that is Red. I hope y'all are safe from all that severe weather that went through. :)
Hi John... so good to see you. We went without power for 8 days once in December. NOT FUN! haha. Hugs1

good luck. Given the record heat & rapidly growing population, I would guess that the camel has a fractured vertebrea.
