Has anyone thought about asking the V&A or the 02 music museum if they can check the labeling? every costume I've dealt with from Angels/bermans is always very well labelled with the actors names.
Out of interest I calculate there is 10 or so Adam Ant '5 button' style dolmans 2 of which are higher rank and have different cuff tracings. and approx 70 of the lower rank '3 button' style.
@bluestone2001 All I know is that the Ant Jacket donated by Adam to the V&A isn't the one worn by David Hemmings. I don't have the time to research it further. The jackets are pretty cool though! :)
Wrong! Captain Nolan had two jackets, one had fur collar (worn by Hemmings in this video), and it was the other one owned by Adam later. Go and check out the film!
Finally, compare the backs of the dolmans. The russia lace at the bottom of the neck in the back is missing on both copies. Anyone doing historically accurate copies would ensure this lace was in place, as is on my dolman. Anyone interested in obtaining their own copy, it can be done. I'm currently having a new 11th dolman made for myself as I'm not the same size I was in 1983. ;)
@FuckYouToobbb Just seen your comments, so apologies for the delay in replying.
My point is not the screen accuracy of the dolmans in CotLB, but only that the dolman owned & worn by Adam Ant, is not the same one worn by David Hemmings in the film, unless the dolman was radically picked apart & redesigned between the end of the filming, and the purchase by Adam.
If you really want to learn more about the pieces used in the film, find Timothy Pickles on IMDB or on his own webpage. Google Hand and Lock or Hobson and Sons. John Fabb is retired now, but Mrs. Quick was still working at AR Fabb last year when I spoke with her. The gold B&S lace, tubular lace & russia braids used in the main character movie pieces weren't all gold either. They had black threads woven into them which helped make the pieces film better and have a deeper 'gold' look to them.
500 characters isn't quite long enough to respond to this, so I'll try to make this short. 11th kit consists of a dolman and pelisse as referenced above. Find Boris and John Mollo's books on Light Brigade or British Cavalry equip't & uniforms. Watch the film before declaring that this isn't one of the pieces worn by Hemmings. I have a copy of an 11th dolman I had made up by AR Fabb Bros. in 1983. The movie pieces weren't 100% historically accurate either, but very close.
I guess the next step would be to see if we can spot the person wearing the correct jacket. Is the one in your pics got fur collars and cuffs? its a long time since I watched it. if so then its a 'Pelise' which is worn usually as a cape rather than a jacket I think. ( the jacket is reffered to as a dolman) this could explain the difference. Also knowing angels they regularly alter bits of costume to suit particular productions, I had a dolman which had been changed to a pelise at some stage.
I don't own a copy of the film, but I'd always known the 'Hemmings' story. I guess it got built up via the old 'chinese whispers'.
The only pics I have of the jacket, are the ones in this video, & it's certainly not the jacket worn by Hemmings. Weird that I could spot that, but the V&A couldn't! lol. I looked at the odd clip of the movie on YouTube, but spotting the exact jacket from that was impossible. I'm sure it probably was used in the film though.
@bluestone2001 Neither of the jackets (Hemmings or Ant) have fur trim. Both are of a similar style, but have obvious (when you look) differences.
I doubt that the differences in the two jackets are due to alteration. The cuff embroidery alone would be a pig to redo, and a bit pointless, as they're both quite similar.
If you get anymore info, I'd be interested to hear it! :)
very interesting, I know the guy that supplied the jacket to adam and have chatted to him about the jacket in the past. he seemed to confirm it was a charge of the light brigade jacket ( there was tons of them in the film) hes a costume guy in the film industry called David Charles Whiting, he worked for the costume company 'Angels' in london, at the time it was called 'Nathan and Burmans'.
@ThatTresses I'm not sure about the collar. Hemmings seems to always wear some form of scarf, and has extra bits of gold wrapped around his neck. Could well be differrent though! I'd not be surprised!
Adam has said in interviews that Dave Whiteing got him the Hussar jacket which was used in the film Charge of the Light Brigade.

does adam say it was the jacket or made to look like it.i cant remember.ill watch the dvd.

@duranasty Adam said it was the one worn by David Hemmings in the movie.
The V&A recently had an exhibition of clothing, and displayed the 'ant' jacket alongside a still from the movie, stating it was the same one.
Amazing that people blindly accept what people say, as being fact, without researching.
I'm sure Adam believed it was the same jacket, but it clearly isn't.

@conversely123 Go and watch the film please!
0509112x 1 year ago
@0509112x what would watching the film prove, that the stills do not?
You've said that there were 2 jackets. One with a fur collar, and one without.
I've found pictures of both, and both are different to the Ant jacket.
