WOW! An exceptional piece, that a select few will totally understand than most. I've watched it over a few times, and each time, I saw and felt something different, but overall there is a lasting feeling of Hope! PS:...love love love the spaghetti bowl hat (collander) on the lil' fellas head! lol Thanks to the creators!
Attachment and suffering. Great theme, set to soulful music, topped with a dismal situation. I honestly don't completely understand the film, but I still enjoyed it.
I find it so beautiful how this film conveys the raw grief and emotion of Katrina without ever explicitly mentioning anything. And the symbolism, the burning of the church, the dragging of the car so like a New Orleans funeral procession, and the boat near the end, lit up like a funeral pyre. It was very moving. I teared up a little at the end when spaghetti kid embraced his father.
If this is double posting, then I apologize. From my end it seems not to be posting at all...

the movie is, just like a song, left up to the viewer to decide what it means. The fact that everyone is arguing about it is a great sign. Great production. I enjoyed it. The piano jam as the boat sunk was awesome. It reveals the power of music.
fellas, it has nothing to do with religion, its an interpretation of Greek myth (in general, not a specific one) through a modern scope, it doesn't necessarily depict the writer's faith or anything like that, its just a fantastic tale
The video shows what an impact music has on a video. -The video without music and the music without the video can't stand alone. Together, they have an incredible emotional pull
the movie was about katrina yes, but in its own description on its own site it says " a group of mourners and a man SPAT FROM THE DEPTHS OF HADES..."
this scenario is impossible, although it may be possible to come back,
but if you are Christian, or have Christian values, then we cannot decrypt, or receive his message...
if we could decrypt it there is no use arguing your Christian interpretation of a movie about a man spate from hell who wants to go back to find his girlfriend
oh wow that was incredible... but does anyone else find it morbid that they found eachother but all dies... I mean if that was where the dead people go how are they not dead
I believe this movie was on youtube about a year ago.For whatever reason it was taken off of youtube and now is back up. I do remember it being longer as well. This time around I see that it was edited a bit differently. While it is still a great short film, the additional editing removed (or shortened) some key parts that made this film more moving.
This film is beyond beauty. The musical score is a true treasure. Superb is an understatement. Beecels, you must be a very cold, unlikable type of being...
wow brought tears to my eye.. this movie gives example of hope and team work to bring about a miracle. that anything is posible when we work together.

coming together in faith and hope with one purpose. to bring life back to our drowning country. no wonder this was the theme of our president.
you idiots cant just enjoy a good movie you have to clutter the whole lower part of the page with stupid comments about stuff nobody really wants to talk about anyways.
I wish people would stop LOOKING for God, as if he were a person. And for the Christians Dont look at the father, son, holy spirit. There is only one God. The son (Jesus) just showed you the way. And was an example of what you can be. The holy spirit, is just your consciousness. The Father is all knowing, and is everything. Meaning you are God, because God and self are one. Anything is possible if you believe in yourself. The bible was a wise mans knowledge, being misinterpreted.
Raping and marrying your own daughter wtf are you talking about cute? Deuteronomy 22:28-29 is what i'm referring to. If your daughter is raped and shes a virgin the rapist must pay you (the father) 50 shackles and his punishment is to marry her and he can't divorce her ever. I'm talking about that shit. Also I think it would be a stretch to say Mary was raped, because if she knew, it could be argued, she would have consented.
chadb1992 have you even read your bible? 4jonah is right do you want me to post the bible versus you seemed to miss? And don't cry discrimination like a 4 year old. When someone has a different view then you it isn't discrimination the US is 90% Christian and the majority discriminates against the minority, not the other way around. Now I realize Christians don't follow the word of the bible why don't you show me a benefit of being Christian that CANNOT be attained through secular means.
I bought this film on DVD... one of my most favorites in my collection. I am so glad to also be able to see it here on YouTube! Thanks for posting! * * * * * & Fave!
this film was incredibly fucked up. can somebody please explain to me what the justification is for killing all the survivors so prematurely so they can be reunited with their loved ones...why did god kill the people in the first wave at all? and of course the priest--a man of god--is spared from dying.
It's so the families can reunite. It's not supposed to be a totally happy ending. And earlier the priest said, "what god can spare us from the forces of nature?" meaning God didn't do it necessarily.
And the priest wasn't spared; he lost his whole "family" because they all drowned; he was the only one who wasn't reunited.
that still doesnt justify god killing the children in the first place. by your own interpretation, death / dying is better than living. so if an eternal afterlife (fine, call it heaven) is better, than life here and now is meaningless. the movie is bullshit. "god did it"....thats the explanation for everything by Christians.
It's about Hurricane Katrina, stupid. The filmmakers didn't invent that; nor is it a statement about god. People DID drown. No one--in the film, or in the real world--thinks that the victims are better off. There's no justification. it was a TRAGEDY.
Glory at sea is about dealing with grief. It's a fantasy about reuniting with your loved ones. Rather than living in a world without them.
And the priest, in case you missed it, is totally ineffectual, and consistently wrong. He alone misses the beauty and meaning at the end of the film. That the people we love--not God--are worth living and dying for. That's why he ends up adrift and alone.
but he did not kill himself to bring back what cannot be brought back...
however remember this... the authors interpretation or faith is different than yours or mine, and so using our logic to justify or not the things in the movie is if not impossible, foolish
im not calling you a fool by no means, im just sharing what i realized
We live in a world of life and death, happiness and sorrow, joy and pain. That is the challenge of this life that we live: how do we survive all this with compassion and love in our hearts? God doesn't "kill children" as it death is part of the nature of life.
We Americans don't have many skills in learning to accept death. This helps in the medical field to prolong life, but it doesn't help us learn to accept the inevitability of death. We need to learn how to do both.
Well I already accept the inevitability of death. Dying doesnt scare me. To blame or praise "God" is absurd. He does not exist. People die. Shit happens. But if "god doesnt kill children" than god doesnt save them either because life is part of the nature of life. This notion of God is more destructive to society than any dictator was to his country.
4jonah: I was raised Catholic and I don't go to church anymore. It's true that "Religion was planted at the point of a sword." The truth of this breaks my heart, so I do not belong to any organized religion. But these words keep me going: (see continued)
God in and of itself is not destructive. However the holy books that allege what that god dictates is destructive. These religious "laws" are 2000 years old. And still people from many religions are murdering and hating and damming each other over some retarded book of fables. The Koran says to kill an nonbelievers. Their god approves of this. the god of the bible hates anyone who isnt a xian. so...these gods are destructive to the mind and to society. but go on. keep praying to your sky daddy
I believe the notion of a God is much more helpful to society than it is destructive. Personally I am a Christian and the belief in God not only gives me hope and purpose but it also shows me morals and makes me a much better person.
so even now, you need God to be a decent person? Which morals makes you good? Is it the one about beating your children, owning slaves, allowing a man to rape your daughter and then forcing her to marry him, or condemning all non believers to eternal hellfire simply for not agreeing with you?
ok obviously u you havent study the Bible at all, your just going on what you have heard from other non believers. Before you start to discriminate against Christians you should study our beleifs and find out what were about.
Haha, "keep praying to your sky daddy". I'm actually agnostic. I don't think the beliefs of moderate theists are necessarily destructive. The belief in a god can give people a sense of purpose; purpose often being a positive and unifying force in society. One might say the purpose it gives people is often hate. Religious texts, like most written works, are open to interpretation. Most contemporary theists don't buy the radical interpretations of their faiths preached by the few extremists.
there are so many examples. but lets go with the most recent: women being arrested in islamic countries for showing their face, a british couple jailed for kissing in public, the fucking pope hiding and protecting pedophile priests and rehashing blame at the people trying to bring these criminals to justice...to name a few recent ones. religion is horseshit.
Try not to interpret religion by looking at a group, do it by looking at individuals who are truly faithful
this world will end someday and just because hes the Pope doesn't meen he cant be corrupt... the bible says to watch for evil where it shuold not be, and that even the "righteous" can be wrong or evil
Either that was really crap, or it just went over my head. I'm going to go with it went over my head :). Anyone wanna help me out here? Is this supposed to be like a Jackson Pollock piece?
nawlens? katrina? or just symbolic of any flood? was it filmed in the 9th ward? i noticed the old six flags in the background of one scene....looked familiar is all
Brandon1234567, you obviously don't understand the meaning of beauty. This film is beautiful. Learn the meaning, I just ask you to appreciate something that many other enjoy.
Except the preacher. Notice he had no family of his own except the 'congregation' whom he felt was his duty to guide, protect and give hope. As it seems, they put aside their perceived false 'hope' in the church (the burning of it) and cast out on their own...to their end. Yet ironically, with an outcome they had yearned for; the reuniting with those they had lost. Though dead, were happy. The preacher, though alive is left alone.
words cannot describe..... i do love the ending how they drown and are symbolically reunited with loved ones lost in those very depths, sort of like limbo, or maybe heaven; not sure which they are portraying here.
there is a great song that actually fits the vibe of this film. waaaay too original. this band called 'Toy Matinee' the song called "Last Plane Out" very interesting idea to play with.
a solid film. reminds me a bit of the robin williams movie "What Dreams May Come" without all the descriptions of hell and more surreal and original for sure. I dig the southern/new orleans style street parade very tasteful.

But these words keep me going: (see continued)
catherinetodd 2 years ago
How is the notion of a God destructive to society? How can you compare the idea of God to what a dictator does in his country?
isninja 2 years ago
God in and of itself is not destructive. However the holy books that allege what that god dictates is destructive. These religious "laws" are 2000 years old. And still people from many religions are murdering and hating and damming each other over some retarded book of fables. The Koran says to kill an nonbelievers. Their god approves of this. the god of the bible hates anyone who isnt a xian. so...these gods are destructive to the mind and to society. but go on. keep praying to your sky daddy
4jonah 2 years ago
I believe the notion of a God is much more helpful to society than it is destructive. Personally I am a Christian and the belief in God not only gives me hope and purpose but it also shows me morals and makes me a much better person.
chadb1992 2 years ago
One doesn't need a god to have morals. Also, how has your belief made you a better person. In what way are you better with religion than without?
isninja 2 years ago 5
so even now, you need God to be a decent person? Which morals makes you good? Is it the one about beating your children, owning slaves, allowing a man to rape your daughter and then forcing her to marry him, or condemning all non believers to eternal hellfire simply for not agreeing with you?
4jonah 2 years ago
ok obviously u you havent study the Bible at all, your just going on what you have heard from other non believers. Before you start to discriminate against Christians you should study our beleifs and find out what were about.
chadb1992 2 years ago
Raping and marrying your own daughter...
Gotta admit... that is pretty far out.... Hows this one for you....
God raped Mary, because he only told her about it after he done it... Not like he asked her for permission is it???

@CuteBadger
she had the ability to say no... and please dont interpret her impregnation in mortal/not divine ways...
dudeinasuit321 1 year ago
Haha, "keep praying to your sky daddy". I'm actually agnostic. I don't think the beliefs of moderate theists are necessarily destructive. The belief in a god can give people a sense of purpose; purpose often being a positive and unifying force in society. One might say the purpose it gives people is often hate. Religious texts, like most written works, are open to interpretation. Most contemporary theists don't buy the radical interpretations of their faiths preached by the few extremists.
isninja 2 years ago
@4jonah
how has it been destructive tell me... please exclude any extremism
dudeinasuit321 1 year ago
@dudeinasuit321
there are so many examples. but lets go with the most recent: women being arrested in islamic countries for showing their face, a british couple jailed for kissing in public, the fucking pope hiding and protecting pedophile priests and rehashing blame at the people trying to bring these criminals to justice...to name a few recent ones. religion is horseshit.
4jonah 1 year ago
@4jonah
Try not to interpret religion by looking at a group, do it by looking at individuals who are truly faithful
this world will end someday and just because hes the Pope doesn't meen he cant be corrupt... the bible says to watch for evil where it shuold not be, and that even the "righteous" can be wrong or evil

I agree that it is an amazing short film.
However like some have said the message is a little cloudy.
Personally I think its depicting our addiction to our material possessions and our endless mourning for our loved ones.
Except not in the classical condemning perspective.
This film shows an unbiased perspective of human nature, not condemning or awarding.
Just an exposition.
Or i could be totally wrong.
Overall, amazing short film. The narration and dialogue capture your heart.

(Aaannnd I could be wrong :9)

there is a great song that actually fits the vibe of this film. waaaay too original. this band called 'Toy Matinee' the song called "Last Plane Out" very interesting idea to play with.

a solid film. reminds me a bit of the robin williams movie "What Dreams May Come" without all the descriptions of hell and more surreal and original for sure. I dig the southern/new orleans style street parade very tasteful.
