You don't hit a horse on the neck with your reins to make it go faster.. that's why crops and spurs were invented. Or, you know, you could always just use your legs. That usually works, too.
@ridexonxstars actually the reins work fine. I was taught by a woman that had worked with horses for thirty years, and she said it really didn't make a difference if you used your reins or a crop. She also said, however, that spurs should be banned from equestrianism.
@angela122345678 You just tap your horse with spurs, you dont KICK them so theres nothing wrong with them. I dont atually use spurs but i think they're better than scaring your horse by smacking it with a crop or whipping it on the neck with the reins. @skyeriders Yeah, I don't like spurs ever since I watched a girl repeatedly kick her horse with them till he almost bled. It's just a bad image I get whenever I think of them, so I strongly dislike them. My horse is afraid of crops, but she isn't afraid of the reins so that's usually what I use.

You can swing the reins around on their neck thats how my friend gets her barrel horse to open up. (I run barrels too but my horse is alot more willing to go around the last barrel than hers is so i just hold on, give him his head and cluck around the last barrel and he does his thing.)

@jukka2311 riding for just six months does not prevent a horse from possibly spooking and bolting causing you to fall and break your skull. no matter the experience, or circumstance, you should ALWAYS wear a helmet. I think it's common sense to have a helmet. I don't know how I would have been today if I didn't wear a helmet when I fell off, hit my head and passed out (that means it was a hard fall). Accidents happen. Don't really care how the person is riding, but if he's going to ride around crazy like that - at LEAST wear a helmet!

If you do this often that poor horse's mouth will be so torn up no one will by her. They are lovely beautiful animals especially your palomino but take a little better care with who rides them.
For someone who's trying to sell one of these horses this was a terrible idea. Not just posting this video, but letting someone ride the horse like that. I hope you don't put the horse through that repeatedly. You'll wreck her mouth. Try selling a horse with a bad mouth... not going to be easy. @diamondpfarms When a horse is tired, it will stop. If that horse had had enough work, it would have let him know, trust me. Horses have brains, they can somewhat reason, and they have their own way of telling people when they don't like something. I rode my coach's mare for 3 hours the other day, loping for the most of it with lead changes, rollbacks and sliding stops. This is coming from someone who has been riding 7 years and handles horses on a daily basis. Horses were built for these things

in England, [we live near Badminton,] there simply is no arguing about which discipline is best- it seems so strange that people will waste time squabbling about western versus ''English''- in this heart of horsey country, no- one calls riding ''English'' anyway, it's simply ''Riding'', divided up into ''hacking, hunting, x-country, long distance, dressage, and it's the same in the jewel in the crown of fine thoroughbreds, Ireland.. ride with respect for your horse:-)
I find English saddles more comfortable but i use to show with my aunt and shes a Nazi. so i guess i just mentally relate English riding with yelling and stress. lol. But i find western more relaxing :)
its true in english you dont have a nice omfy saddle lol , i have never actually ridden in western though but i ride english andi think the saddles in english are more for movement e.g jumping whilst western saddles are alot more comfortable and safe :)
I ride/show english and western, and in my opinion english is a lot more tedious. With english you and the horse have to be the complete package or don't expect to bring home a trophy. Now with western, you have to have the look but the appearences of your equitation don't matter so much. It's more about the horses training and skills. There are, of course, a few exceptions to what I just said with both disciplines.
These men were not wearing any safety gear such as a riding hat or body protector. if they fell off at that speed then they could seriously hurt themselves! i would have thought they would have the common sense to at least wear a hard hat!
You guys who are all saying that no one rides perfectly the first time are absolutely correct. However, it seems dangerous to let someone with that level of training--none--cowboy around a farm, no helmet, jouncing on the horse's back, tearing at the horse's mouth. I think it's fantastic when people show an interest in riding. But tearing around willy nilly on a thousand pound animal, putting yourself, others, and the horse at risk, is not the way to gain experience.
personally i think you have to have balance to ride in an english saddle. lets face it, that dude would have dirt up his nose if he was in an english saddle.

I think english AND western people are snotty! Everyone rides different, no matter what dicipline or show or trail or ranch riding you do! We all have our own secrets and our own comforts, and horse people in general are snotty because things arent done excactly as they would do it themselves! @MosloTR I have to agree with you, anyone who says another discipline is uppity or snotty, is someone who is usually snotty themselves. A saddle is a saddle, if you know how to ride, you can ride in any saddle. Balance and a good seat is just as important in western pleasure as it is in dressage or jumping. And the need to hold on can happen in any english discipline as well, ( I end up with a handful of mane in those situations). Stop putting other people down, and get some class people.
It doesn't matter what style you ride, I always where a helmet and I ride english but half of my friends ride western. Like cuttinghorse22 said we all share the same passion for horses and I love them like crazy!

I think it's common sense to have a helmet. I don't know how I would have been today if I didn't wear a helmet when I fell off, hit my head and passed out (that means it was a hard fall). Accidents happen. Don't really care how the person is riding, but if he's going to ride around crazy like that - at LEAST wear a helmet!

For someone who's trying to sell one of these horses this was a terrible idea. Not just posting this video, but letting someone ride the horse like that. I hope you don't put the horse through that repeatedly. You'll wreck her mouth. Try selling a horse with a bad mouth... not going to be easy. If this guy wants to learn to ride he needs to find an instructor who can teach him the basics in an appropriate, safe manner. In other words, not like this.

@diamondpfarms When a horse is tired, it will stop. If that horse had had enough work, it would have let him know, trust me. Horses have brains, they can somewhat reason, and they have their own way of telling people when they don't like something. I rode my coach's mare for 3 hours the other day, loping for the most of it with lead changes, rollbacks and sliding stops. This is coming from someone who has been riding 7 years and handles horses on a daily basis. Horses were built for these things

in England, [we live near Badminton,] there simply is no arguing about which discipline is best- it seems so strange that people will waste time squabbling about western versus ''English''- in this heart of horsey country, no- one calls riding ''English'' anyway, it's simply ''Riding'', divided up into ''hacking, hunting, x-country, long distance, dressage, and it's the same in the jewel in the crown of fine thoroughbreds, Ireland.. ride with respect for your horse:-)

its true in english you dont have a nice omfy saddle lol , i have never actually ridden in western though but i ride english andi think the saddles in english are more for movement e.g jumping whilst western saddles are alot more comfortable and safe :)

I ride/show english and western, and in my opinion english is a lot more tedious. With english you and the horse have to be the complete package or don't expect to bring home a trophy. Now with western, you have to have the look but the appearences of your equitation don't matter so much. It's more about the horses training and skills. There are, of course, a few exceptions to what I just said with both disciplines.

You guys who are all saying that no one rides perfectly the first time are absolutely correct. However, it seems dangerous to let someone with that level of training--none--cowboy around a farm, no helmet, jouncing on the horse's back, tearing at the horse's mouth. I think it's fantastic when people show an interest in riding. But tearing around willy nilly on a thousand pound animal, putting yourself, others, and the horse at risk, is not the way to gain experience.

I think english AND western people are snotty! Everyone rides different, no matter what dicipline or show or trail or ranch riding you do! We all have our own secrets and our own comforts, and horse people in general are snotty because things arent done excactly as they would do it themselves! Every rider is different, every horse is different. It all works out. Get over youself.

@MosloTR I have to agree with you, anyone who says another discipline is uppity or snotty, is someone who is usually snotty themselves. A saddle is a saddle, if you know how to ride, you can ride in any saddle. Balance and a good seat is just as important in western pleasure as it is in dressage or jumping. And the need to hold on can happen in any english discipline as well, ( I end up with a handful of mane in those situations). Stop putting other people down, and get some class people.

lol he looks like he had a very fun time...not that bad of riding either lol! as for the whole 'english is better' you're all open to your opinion...I truly think it depends on the rider though, the best riders are the ones who enjoy what they do and can respect the styles of other riders/drivers etc. You just have to enjoy your horse!! :)
