I am nearly 70. Since childhood, I have firmly believed the Barcarolle from 'The Tales of Hoffman' to be by far the finest music ever written. It touches my soul.
@wossip123 10 years ago when i first started messing around on keyboard i popped off a few notes and ended up getting the sequence for this. no more than 15 notes. I always thought it was from valse des fleurs. Tonight i was messing on youtube and came across this. i couldnt believe it, moved me to tears. truly does touch the soul. x
Yes, and something else-in the Nazi concentration camps where many members of the Berlin Philharmonic, incarcerated themselves, were forced to play as the condemned walked to their deaths, the Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffman was once of the pieces played. Chilling.
Anecdotal thought. When the Titanic was slowly slipping beneath the seas, passengers heard this piece being played by the band. Years after the sinking, one of the survivors was attending a party and they played Tales of Hoffman. This caused her to have a complete break down. She eventually remembered that it was because of Titanic.... and the power of music.
that was cavallera rusticana.. no? I used to call that the kleenex music.. I remember sharing it over my earphones under my umbrella with my gf one night as we walked home from college. I'm sure she's forgotten, but I haven't.
nisam sigurna da postoji nesto ljepse od ove kompozicije.i ja prosto ne mogu da nadjem rijeci da opisem kako se lijepo ocjecam dok ovo slusam. or ..... i m not sure there is something more beautiful ,as this melody is. and i just cant find the words to describe how good i feel when i m listening this melody . :))
This is so very beautiful! I see that Andrea Bocelli also sings it, but, must confess, I dread hearing it! It was meant for a Soprano and an Alto Soprano to sing it! Some other day, perhaps, I will create courage to listen to his version!
Zéphyrs embrasés, Versez-nous vos caresses, Zéphyrs embrasés, Donnez-nous vos baisers! vos baisers! vos baisers! Ah! Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour, Souris à nos ivresses, Nuit plus douce que le jour, Ô belle nuit d'amour! Ô belle nuit d'amour! Ah! Souris à nos ivresses! c'est nuit d'amour, ô nuit d'amour! Ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! ah!
this is the music I want to hear as I pass to the next world. so peaceful, yet so powerful!

@wossip123 Me, too. It always makes me think of candy canes and sugarplum faeries. It is one of my favourite orchestral works.

heard this in the caves of drach in Majorka
and loved it ever since. It was played by musicians in a boat sailing down a vast under ground lake . Brings back many memories.

Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour,
Souris à nos ivresses,
Nuit plus douce que le jour,
Ô belle nuit d'amour!
Le temps fuit et sans retour
Emporte nos tendresses,
Loin de cet heureux séjour
Le temps fuit sans retour.
