As you mention Lee strobel, can you sum up the major arguments put forth FOR the existence of God? I'm sure you're able and willing to do that. As for the spiritual "evidence", I could quiet easily say that I feel at peace in Budhism. I can go point by point at different times etc..First you may have known that Buddhist do not consider the material world real but "illusory" they may find "peace" but the question arises how they will know that the peace they have is real and not an illusion? A topic for another day. Christianity doesn't deny the material world but asserts that God created it.

@arabie2006 I have to slightly beg to differ in your thinking that we should not use the Bible to prove truth. We are educated through books in one form or another. Almost every product has a set of instructions or manual. Our government and court system depends heavily on records or laws in a set of books etc...The Bible, I submit falls into that category as a set of instructions for our aid while we live here on earth. Yet we can examine history, archeology, and other sciences.

Science does create a problem for the creationists, because now they have to choose between what is a fairytale (Genesis) and what actually really happened. But my point is that many were Christians because they actually believed it and wrote in their journals about their faith in God. Consequently, it motivated them to discover God's handiwork. There are of course "theories" as to the Origin of the Universe but even then it cannot be "verified" as you said. It is taken by "faith" that there must have been a Big bang etc...by "inferences" not actual facts. Therefore, if we are to talk about God we MUST use what we know to be reality. For example: for every effect (event) there was a Cause or source. This is a common sense approach...

Big Bang has been verified as a fact, and not taken as a "faith" as you put it. The red light shift, the hubble telescope, the rate of which the galaxies move away from us at an increasing rate. The role of God in explaining how the universe began has never been so insignificant.

I can go point by point at different times etc..First you may have known that Buddhist do not consider the material world real but "illusory" they may find "peace" but the question arises how they will know that the peace they have is real and not an illusion? A topic for another day. Christianity doesn't deny the material world but asserts that God created it.

The sacrifice itself was to redeem mankind from their original sin which they allegedly inherited from Adam. To enter the mysterious world of the Sub-atomic particle to prove your point misses life "as we know it" The Law of Non-Contradiction works 100% of the time in reality. It was recorded for our understanding that Man cannot keep God's law perfectly, so God in the O.T. pointed of the coming Messiah who will save the world from their sins. The slavery, the expulsion of people from their homes and war all the time. and only after a couple of centuries he decides to send his son (or himself, depends on what you believe) to go on a suicide mission. This is the unique aspect of Christianity that no other religion asserts--not one! This is the challenge and the beauty to find out that Jesus Christ called himself the Truth. By "everyone has his own truth" i meant to say that it differs per person. To me, truth can be entirely different from what you perceive to be the truth. @arabie2006 I have to slightly beg to differ in your thinking that we should not use the Bible to prove truth. We are educated through books in one form or another. Almost every product has a set of instructions or manual. Our government and court system depends heavily on records or laws in a set of books etc...The Bible, I submit falls into that category as a set of instructions for our aid while we live here on earth. Yet we can examine history, archeology, and other sciences.

@arabie2006 God created the whole universe in such a way that when you as a sentient being can enjoy it and "learn" about the Creators attributes and nature. In other words, science is a tool to understand God and his diversity and immense scope. You said that evidence gained by the scientific method is the "only evidence" that can be verified. This creates a problem as to the Origin of the world and the study of God who is a Spirit (John 4) because science cannot time travel and "observe" God

Science does create a problem for the creationists, because now they have to choose between what is a fairytale (Genesis) and what actually really happened. Much of the explaining of the ancient world has been done in the "God dit it", but as science grows ever more, we have a much better grasp of reality around us.

@MrExcelsior2009 Sure, such as I would be point to numerous Islamic scientists who have made discoveries or contributed greatly to the scientific community. Does that mean that Islam is right? Besides, in those days (medieval times), you've better be a christian, otherwise you'll end up being burned at the stake or banished altogether or put under housearrest. Although some might have been genuinely christians, I have no doubts that others were agnostics but couldn't come forward with it.

@arabie2006 Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are often called Monotheistic. They agree that God Almighty exists--right? The difference is as to the "nature" of God. As scripture teaches that the Light of God has come to humanity and that spark is in the conscience. So to answer your question Islam is right as to the existence of God, but almost immediately disagree with Christianity when God the Son became a human being to bring redemption and revelation.

The divinity of jesus falls immediately because humans are not descendent from Adam but we've evolved. Even the late Pope accepted evolution to be a fact. @arabie2006 If you slice the Universe to its minutes quantity, that quantity does not have a explanation for itself! This is a fact. Ultimately the whole Universe cannot explain its origin--right? We do that--aren't we?So whatever the explanation for the material world it is coming from outside itself and would-be a non-physical starter(since the Big bang asserts that the material world had an actual beginning). The other theory you mentioned is the eternal physical universe that always was.

Which in turns OBSERVERD that the particles popped up and reappeared somewhere else. The universe as we know it wasn't there at the big bang.

In other words, the Webster Dictionary for example didn't evolve from an explosion, but rather it required an outside Mind to put it together and make it understandable and usable. But my point is that many were Christians because they actually believed it and wrote in their journals about their faith in God. Consequently, it motivated them to discover God's handiwork. It propelled them to expect the world to be "understandable" since God made it so according to the Holy Bible. But my point here is that these great Scientists saw the Universe as God's handiwork (Genesis) and therefore they proceeded to "believe" that the Universe has a "logic" by which to study and eventually benefits the human race. There are of course "theories" as to the Origin of the Universe but even then it cannot be "verified" as you said. It is taken by "faith" that there must have been a Big bang etc...by "inferences" not actual facts. Therefore, if we are to talk about God we MUST use what we know to be reality. For example: for every effect (event) there was a Cause or source. This is a common sense approach...

Big Bang has been verified as a fact, and not taken as a "faith" as you put it. The red light shift, the hubble telescope, the rate of which the galaxies move away from us at an increasing rate. The role of God in explaining how the universe began has never been so insignificant.
