  • 3 people are deaf as a hammer.

  • Wow, 2 of my favourite singers ever. Fabulous.

  • Simply beautiful. Makes you believe in the world.

  • My goosebumps are permanent...I'll need to see a dermatoligist.....

  • @timtipton5071256 I NEED TO SEE A CARDIOLOGIST

  • There is genius in simplicity. Not everyone can pull it off. These two can and always did. Thanks for posting!

  • @dnorv DELICATE AND SUBTLE

  • God, I love him. I cried at his live show, I wont even lie.

  • Love John so much! Musical hero of my life!

  • luv this song

  • I hope neither of them had bad breath.

  • what a gentleman giving her his jacket to wear as she must have been freezing.lol

  • My favorite song of all time. We love you John.

  • Its a great song and its fairly easy to play on the guitar. i sing it alot my self . its a shure winner everywhere.

  • Wonderful!

  • Fabulous stuff. I first heard of John Prine in a pokey lil upstairs bar at the junction of Exchequer St and Wicklow St in Dublin and was blown away by the tunes covered that night. Unfortunately, it was many years later when Philip Donnelly done a version of this that I "heard" it for 1st time. Another fantastic cover of this song can be heard by Alabama 3, a band of mad country acid house musicians(their own description)Alabama 3 for them as dont know, done the theme tune for The Sopranos.

  • John Prine and Nanci Griffith....It really doesn't get any better than this!

  • @joeyrock I agree ...

  • Beautiful

  • @artetarima You need help dude - you've taken a comment about emerging talent in the world by me and turned it into a scrap! My heart goes out to you dude!

@101truthhurts I feel her input is just perfect for a 2nd/harmony voice! But.... thats just my humble opinion though.... Less is more in that role.... ;-)

  • Nicely done. Nanci should've stood a bit closer to the microphone though.

  • @101truthhurts Wilma's Law: "If you can't say sompi nice don't say anything a tall..

  • Magic.

  • @artetarima What exactly about my very vague and positive outlook on the world and the harvesting of new musical talent did you think was a personal attack on you? You're tirade back at me hardly warrants a response... Anyway - I'm sorry for your financial plight but more sorry for what ever the reason you had to tell me about it.... I'm a travelling semi professional session musician and can tell you all's good in that world! Enjoy the $12k.... Jeez...... :-(

  • @Whippy930 U chose to wright how u are so open minded about music & on the state of the world on my comment,So I think for a semi pro whatever, u are full of crap! I said folks like Nanci ( who has been & still is an activist for human rights and a super generous humanbeing) not to metion her talent Is lost to this world she will be Irreplaceble & you opened your BIG ASS mouth & said I needed to open my ears eyes.Good folks are harder to find now adays. thts why I touchd on my pentioned ASSHOLE!

  • @artetarima My God dude... Where are ya and I'll come give you a big sloppy hug... You totally misread/misunderstood my comment, but thats not the point now, you've made this very personal, why man?... But based on your ability to spell I wouldn't imagine reading is your strongest point either dude! ....and that's with 52 years, many countries lived in, 3 languages, 30 years of corporate loyalty, 12 thousand(s) worth of shares, a million dollar CEO & a gallon of liquid bitterness! Great song!

  • @Whippy930 Just like your first and original comment all you have is put down ASSHOLE. Who judges writing skills on twitter or youtube when you have limited characters,Only a real jerk and yes I lived in Severall countries. I used to work with less fortunate people around the world that need help. Im fine with what I have contributed so far in my life time. Take your semi pro self and go post put downs.. well you know what it's a waste of time and energy responding to a jerk like you.

  • @artetarima I sincerely believe you are wrong! There's great people and great talent being born every day around the world... You've just gotta open you mind, eye's & ear's to discover it! :-)

    Try it....

  • @Whippy930 I can tell u that I have lived in several countrys during my 52 years of life & I am always amazed & enjoy the different cultures I have come by.Just take a look at my youtube profile, Im sure you never even heard of some the music I have there! Talent will eventually win over all different generations, just like folks like Marshall Tucker Band & Waylen & others won over traditonal country folks with their body of work and staying power for decades,NO uniqueness anymore,YOURE WRONG!!!

  • @Whippy930 If you think people & things are so rosy & we help one another out like when I was growing up. just take a look @ whats happening around you. I worked @ the same company for 30 years @ one point my shares with that company were at over a hundred thousand $, Today if I was to retire I will get less than 12 thousands. But the ceo salarys are well over a Million per year, & that is just one example..You are out your MIND! BTW I speak 3 languages & Im so close minded according to u anyway

  • Folks like John and Nanci are irreplaceble and when folks like that leave us the world seems doomed because honestly I dont see anyone in our new generation taking their places in Human compassion or talent. Everyone is out for themself and every Damn body sounds or want to sound the same as in IDOL... No uniqueness left in this once GREAT country!! We miss real country and unique artist... Where are you Johnny Cash and friends??????

  • @artetarima

I sincerely believe you are right !

  • John is the Mark Twain of songwriters ... humorous, witty, serious ... "you've broken the speed of the sound of lonliness" ... that line's hard to top.

  • I believe that Nanci Griffith has the biggest, warmest, most generous heart on the planet.

  • This is a great song, but the duet version with Nanci is the piece de resistance.

  • Awesome.

  • This needs to be officially added to the pantheon of great duets. It is unforgettable.

  • Another in a long line of John Prine great songs

  • the one person that dusliked this must not have actually listen to this song

  • @g420gb

There's no accounting for the tastes of some people.

  • @g420gb Prolly accidentally clicked the wrong button.

  • @g420gb someone bumped me as i was trying to hit like! hah ;)

  • stunningly lovely

  • Yessureee !

  • ...aw heck ! thanks for posting

  • Somehow, reminds me when two fools met...they are such leaders, inadvertently, of course.

  • love this song, thanks for sharing... COA ...

  • Ilove this song. Used to include it in my own set when I was a Musiker in Germany. Sang it a few times with my friend Bill Craig!

  • LOVE the song!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!

  • Gorgeous song. Two all-time greats.

  • I think I like this version better than the album version --with his voice singing the lead & her's doing the harmony --they are both amazing!

  • Perfect!

  • He should have shared the mic more , she is brill, nice anyway

  • what year was this

  • true artists

  • what show is this performance taken from?

  • Could this be one of the greatest all time duets? WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!

  • jphn prine, a home boy. raised around chitown, but family/musical roots right down the road in Kentucky. Nanci griffith, not sure where she is from, but she rocks. iris demente rocks with prine as well/

  • Nanci's from little town called Seguin, northeast of San Antonio, Texas. Isn't she fantastic?

  • @babykittensrock She is one of my favourite artists, along with Steve Earle among others.

A lovely human being. Just love her.

  • I Cant understand why someone would click that they dont like this!!!!!! FFS this is one of the classic songs of all time, sung by the genius that wrote it,and the angel who interprets songs like a goddess. P.U.R.E. C.L.A.S.S.

  • Great rendition. I've seen John Prine open his show a few times with this song and he always says "This one's for you, Nanci."

    Thanks for sharing.

  • It just doesn't get any better than this. Two great singers singing a beautiful song.

  • Better than making -heaven-its there/here on earth!

  • perfection

  • Maybe,if there was no horror to human nature, there wouldn't be beauty like this.

  • A beautiful duet. John Prine is peerless.

  • they are good together.

  • Feeling grateful. Thanks.

  • Wow... what a difference 20 years makes in appearances. Glad I don't age! LOL

  • Not technically perfect, but who ever expected that from John live?

Adorable - and I love the harmony, which is missing from the visually moving produced video of this song.

I'd have leaned over and smooched her...

  • @hrothgleas Right at about 2:15 she becomes irresistible...

  • i love great songs thats magic

  • Beautiful!

  • It's a mighty mean and dreadful sorrow, that's crossed the evil line today. KILLER!!!

  • @dewittguero yup. good stuff!

  • I like the version with Nancy singing much better...

  • Simply a wonderful performance!

  • Great John and Nancy! Thanks.

  • Awesome. Classic.

  • I wish the world was made up of John and Nancies! There's a certain something about seeing these two Greats share the mic...this is beautiful. Thank you.

  • Shure there others too, that's not reason to give some cruel comments.

  • I have as an outsider (from Finland) read the comments on videos for some weeks. I think there is a group of artists beloved by americans:

they never get a cruel comment. To that group belong E-L Harris, Nanci Griffith, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Iris DeMent, Allison Krause, John Prine, Roy Orbison, Chet Atkins, Mark Knopfler,Bobby Bare, Jackson Brown. I think they actually are good musicians, but there are others too.

  • @JyHiable Their music lasts while the "hits" mostly fall by the wayside over time.

  • @JyHiable They got there the old-fashioned way. They earned it, as have some others (e.g. Johnny Cash, Carter Family, Joan Baez.) Some are pure genius, in their own way. What more would you need?

Are you referring to the angelic Alison Krauss? (Easier to search on that name.)

  • I shot some hi-def footage in the scrub deserts of Nevada, and set it to this song. Feel free to take a look!

  • really good !! :)

  • best version

  • Is she flirting with him?

  • @grundoon51 Hells yes!

  • "pick it, John"

  • Woo- hey. Thanks for posting this fantastic version of one of THE great songs. The single mike adds so much to it... sometimes it's not technical perfection we want but atmosphere in a song.... sigh.

  • Very enjoyable. Thanks for posting.

  • Get them another MIKE for pete's sake!

  • this is definitely the best version of this one and the one mike makes it!!!!

  • @hoakiss99 Hells no - much more fun to have her lean in like this.

  • I like this one very much.

    Thank you.
