Navy OCS 12-98 Drill Practice Week 4

Can someone answer this.....are these guys Sailors, Marines or both mixed? I'm just confused as to why it says "Navy OCS" but they have Marine DI's. I thought DI's were just for boot camp? Anyone fill me in?

Marine DI's have been training the Navy Officer Corps since 1947. First it was the NAVCAD's, then in 1956 AOCS was added, along with MARCAD's and AVROC's over the years. In 1994 the Navy merged the aviation element and the surface Navy into one school, Navy OCS. They kept the Marine DI's because no one can do it better than Marines when it comes to developing leaders and applying stress.

@crouchje That just seems so odd that they wouldn't use Navy DI's...or better yet Navy officers. Weird that a Marine NCO trains Sailors to become officers.....

Marine Corps Drill Instructors use close order drill to develop DISCIPLINE, SELF DISCIPLINE, ESPRIT DE CORPS, TEAM WORK, ENTHUSIASM and SELF CONFIDENCE. They do this by creating an environment of pressure and punishment if you fail. If you want to earn your commission in an academic environment find another institution that does not use the Marine Corps Drill Instructor. I can only assume you are not a Marine, and if you are a Marine then obviously your Drill Instructors have failed you.

Ive tried to replicate the commands and how you shout it many times cause im going to be in a play at the theater in the role of a Marine Drill Instructor.

Stand 25 paces from a tree or person and begin chewing them out in as loud a voice as possible. You will lose your voice, but then take the pain and continue yelling. It comes from the gut, not the throat. You need to lose your voice and have a reason to still communicate, thus you succeed at learning to speak from the diaphragm. It should feel like a thousand situps cramping your stomach. However, don't bother unless you have three or more weeks to recover your voice.

YUT! As a member of OCS class 12-98 it was a pleasure to serve with such people (graduating 19 strong). As the guideon I felt especially proud. People who watch this video can not appreciate the hours of hard work that went into this drill. Thanks to the training I have received and the dedication instilled in me I am now a LCDR training future Sailors. Thank you and YUT!
