You guys don't get it. There is a womens version of Mt. Athos. If she wants to go to Athos then she can go to the female monistary. Her issue is that she is thinking wickedly and using secular ideology in a real reserved for religion. Be worldly or be Godly, but don't mix the two. As for my earlier post anyone disputing women covering their head as not being Orthodox, can't claim to even know the Holy Scripture. Reasearch this for yourself. I will not argue with ppl who draw uppon thier own idea
Women should get the same respect as men do.For those people who think women are less then a man and should be treated as such.Let me remind you there were many famous Greek women heros who fought for the freedon of Greece from the Turks during the Ottoman Empire.I think first of all the Greek people shouldnt pay for theses monasteries through tax money, the church should pay for these manasteries from there collection plates.
I agree if a women pays taxes to this monastries they should also have the right to be able to see it.First of all why is the people of Greece paying taxes for these monasteries?
Absolutely not. As a female orthodox christian I do not feel the need to visit MT Athos. It is a place of worship not a tourist attraction for westerners who have no concept of what monastic life is. We MUST respect the wishes of the monks as we expect others to respect ours when they enter our home. Before we make comments we should do some research first and at least be informed.
Must we really succumb to all-popular political correctness, pop psychology and west Euro demands? Looks like money is definitely the lord of this world. So what, sister, if you pay taxes for Mt. Athos??? Do these people even know fundamentals of Orthodox monasticism and the whole purpose of Mt. Athos? Feminist lobbying is definitely at work here. For thousand years it was like this, why abolish it now, it makes no sense -- ohh but but does when you think about it.
This woman is clearly not Orthodox. If she were her head would have been covered and her humility would keep her from such thinking. She has as much chance of getting into a government restricted area as athos and she pays government taxes. She could complain about that as easily. Humility is the key. if she wants to be around male monks, let her go live monasticly in the mountians. Maybe she will see a hermit and have the humility to walk another way.
@hooty42079 "Her head would have been covered"??!?!?!?!? Im Ortodox, I live in Ortodox country and our brother nations are Russia and Greece, also Ortodox....I have never heard or seen in my life Ortodox woman that has her head "covered"?!?!??!?! And 90 precent of women I know are ortodox...
What are you talking about...We are not muslims, we have no such rules for women.... Im really interested what is your nationality, which Ortodox church allows women to "cover their head"?!?!?
What we are dealing here is not a women’s rights demand but an ideological outburst of a very resentful secularizing agent. Monks of Mount Athos has right, as me in my own house, to set up the rules they consider appropriated. If you don’t like the way I do things in my home, don’t ring the bell and just stay away. Leave our Orthodox Church alone and pay more attention to women’s rights were they are really needed like home violence.
I wonder if the women in this video knows of the "female" Mt. Athos: It's called Ormylia and it's a fascinating place. If you ask me, that place is just as interesting and they are doing the Lord's work there as well. it's really too bad secularists ignore women's contributions while trying to tear down the men's. Both are equally as important in God's sight.
I agree, since it's a holy mountain and only men were blessed to be there by the Virgin Mary, who blessed this mountain to be her home on earth. I know it's annoying for women not to go there, but there is a holy wisdom in there, monks would not be thrown into temptation because of them.

@bitterice Why would you call women stupid? Is your mother not a woman? what about your sisters? What about the Theotokos? These are ALL WOMEN! You really ought to think before posting.
i dont think the monastry should be abolish....im from Eritrea and also a Christian Orthodox....there is a similar monastry only for men in Eritrea the point is that the Monks could live without inteferance from any worldly beings and especially women even Female animals are not allowed to go through there....why cant we just let them be and pray for their sin and of course they are praying for everyone in there not just themselves
Lets say that teh president of the country has an offical visit in Greece with his wife and he wants to visit Mount Athos. What will say the greek officials to the presiden't wife...Miss your husband will visit Mount Athos and you have to visit Meteora...Men are not prohibited to visit the monasteries of nuns in Meteora. Second question: from where have the greek monasteries of Athos the funds to survive? From the greek goverment? Taxes in Greece are paid by both men and WOMEN...I'm orthodox too
It's not an island, it's just only accessible by boat. Leave the monks be - it's private land anyway so tough luck haha. Pretty low to try to push your freak-o hippie beliefs on a bunch of kindly old monks. Shame on you. Whats next, are men gonna whine and moan in the streets about their "right" to invade the nuns traditions?
No Mr.this is a tradition over 1100 years. If you think this is worst that talibans, these people didn't kill didn't torture, didn't rape and I find more crimes. Worst than talibans. What is worst than talibans?
