I've got an edited version of this on one of them K-Tel multiple hit LPs that I bought in the seventies. It is a nice cheery song and always makes me smile and think of a girl I used to like at school when I here it. Thank you for taking the trouble to upload it. Wish I know how to do it coz I have a few gems I'd love to share with you all.
OMG thank you Elofan I have had this song in my head since the 70's I couldnt remember who did it I was 18 and clubbing when this came out , great memories , thank you so much x
This was a great record and for writers Ron Roker and Gerry Shury their first top ten record together. The song was even covered by Philladelphia soul girls First Choice but this version is favourite and the Pearls were two great singers.
I had this song on the brain ever since the summer of 74 when I was 7. From my crackly old radio I could never quite figure out the lyrics - I thought they sang about "Down on the corner was a serious cry". So I could never find what this earworm was. Then thanks to the internets I found it. It seems that in the NW London suburbs, this and Andy Kim's Rock Me Gently, and "Down on the Beach Tonight" were the main hits that summer.
The single i have credits Johnny arthey as arranger but whichever of them it was they did a great job and i agree that Gerry shury is very underrated.
Yes I am still confused as to whether Gerry had a hand in the production, although it does not say so on the label. What I do know is that Gerry was a genius and is sadly overlooked. 70s pop and soul from the UK would not have been half of what it was witholut him.
I have been waiting a long time for this to appear on YouTube. What a lovely record and a hit from 1974 on Bell. Do you know if this was arranged by the late Gerry Shurry. It sounds like one of his orchestrated productions so loved back then. I really liked this song. I also think it was a great influence on Pete Waterman who used the theme of this song and turned into 'Love in the first degree' by 'Bananarama' a few years later.
Yes thanks for that. I think it was definetly written by Gerry Shury and Ron Roker though. Gerry was a great loss to the UK sould scene back in the '70s, and Gerry was instrumental in bringing the wonderful string arrangements to so many 70s soul hits for acts such as Tina Charles, Biddu, etc. He was a sad loss to music and largely overlooked. Before him the UK soul / pop scene was undergound.
What they said! Had this on the Bell 7" back in the day but misplaced it somewhere along the line and have been waiting for years to hear it again. Made my day, thanks! :-)
Ahhhhhhh, brilliant ,at last some nice person has uploaded it ,thank you, thank you , one of my all time favs from the 70s .Great lyrics ,backing track ,drums , strings Supremeeeeeeee !

Good singalong soft soul. So many good 1970s records like this never get airplay.

Some talented individual should do a mash-up of this song with Bananarama's 'Love In The First Degree'.

Found this by accident, much better than The Banarama "Love in the First Degree". Less annoying jangily bits & better voices.
Singers will be the same age as my Mum, but they look lovely on that Album cover & have nice cheeky voices.
