no conocia este grupo , es la caña , me ha gustado mucho y ademas es de los 60 o 70 , es que el rock sinfonico me encanta , pues un saludo a todos los que os aya gustado este grupo, adios
This song was left off the original release because it was written as the single...which the band hated, since they were entirely resistant to the industry. It has been released on subsequent reissues. Personally, I love this song and it doesn't sound nearly as poppy as their later material. Though I don't agree with nixing this one, the integrity is refreshing.
@Lepretr0n When this "bonus track" first came out, we freaked! I had it on my reel to reel for years, then on cassette and now on CD! Great song from a great Prog band!
They hate this track so much that I bought the most recent release of the album and it was not included. It's very catchy and shouldn't have been left off, but I would hardly consider it their best song.
is this the single that their record company forced them into making in order to satisfy commercial demand? Didn't they hate this song? Weren't they ashamed of it? The tracks on the album The Power and The Glory are so much better. Proclamation! SO good.
I´ve always loved this little tune cause of its dizzy harmonic lines and dynamic. If someone asks, what is it with Gentle Giant, maybe I would simply refer to 0:55. What other band would resolve a refrain like this? It´s like an ass getting kicked. GG is unique, ever-different and charming music, that kicks ass, too.
I think the unfounded hype that GG was the reunited Beatles was that they were so *not* that. I wouldn't listen until I found out about where they were really at.
Trust me on this, we saw them in 1972 at MSG. There were 6 of them on stage. 3 of them brothers. 4 of them playing a drum solo in synch. As a group they outplayed Tull, Queen, Yes, etc. I have seen hundreds of progressive bands, since I've always played the style. Gentle Giant live was the greatest performance ever!
I read that they pulled this song from the album because they thought this song was too "pop", but that was their intent when they wrote it -- to please the label. I, of course, also love the song.
It was not really pulled it. Actually it was written after the album was completed.
It's a nice little song, certainly not their best, but not among their worst anyway. Much better than anything on "Giant for A Day" for example, or even "An Inmates Lullaby" on "In a Glass House"
its a good song and i like how kerry plays on this one. but i dont think this is the greatest song but that's my opinion.. Gentle Giant is the best!!!
Aye, I totally agree with Sam81292's sentiment, this is a good song, I love the emotions it evokes and that makes it a good song in my humble opinion. Far better than what the industry produces these days
It takes a few listens to finally like them, but you'll like them!

WHY ON EARTH WAS THIS LEFT OFF THE ALBUM? DOES ANYBODY KNOW?
martynhanson 1 month ago
@martynhanson This single was written after the fact to "promote" the album. Too bad as it would have fit quite nicely among the P&G tracks.

Great music and song. Although, they may not have been fully satisfied with it, it is still one of the best singles I've ever heard

The band hated it because their record company told them to go and write a hit single. They went and wrote this song which they called "atrocious".

3 minutes with the most exciting and complex arrangement as possible. That´s why i love the Giant.

I made a new GG epic by combining Proclamation - The Power and the Glory - Valedictory. It's a winner, just put the 3 in a row on your mp3 player...

I don't think it's their best song. Not at all bad though. Not sure why the band hated it and didn't want it released as a single.
