  • Ok, so I am 41 years old and I have developed a crush on Anne Murray.

  • I just love this song!

  • Comment removed

  • Canada at it's best. Voice like an angel, and not bad locking either.

  • Beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean The unborn grass lies waiting for its coat to turn to green The snowbird sings the song he always sings And speaks to me of flowers that will bloom again in spring When I was young my heart was young then, too Anything that it would tell me, that's the thing that I would do But now I feel such emptiness within For the thing that I want most in life's the thing that I can't win CHORUS Spread your tiny wings and fly away And take the snow back with you
  • Where it came from on that day

The one I love forever is untrue

And if I could you know that I would

    Fly away with you

The breeze along the river seems to say

That he'll only break my heart again should I decide to stay

So, little snowbird, take me with you when you go

To that land of gentle breezes where the peaceful waters flow

    CHORUS

  • My mom is almost 82!!! This one of her favs! She is a Coal-Miners Daughter from NE PA. I would do ANYTHING for you MOM!!!

  • What a great singer. A beautiful voice is timeless.

  • Very nice voice...Such a wonderful song.

  • She may be the greatest female volcolist of all time.

  • @JimmyLeeDean Well, second to Karen Carpenter

  • @Stevetheperformer Anne Murray is second to no one.

  • @NOUNZYKRANZA Hey, nothing against Anne Murray- I think she is awesome. I just think they broke the mold after Karen Carpenter was made.

  • @Stevetheperformer Karen=muzak. Anne= vocal perfection.

  • @NOUNZYKRANZA Why is it people just want to argue on Youtube? Karen Carpenter was hardly muzak. Look at her legacy- Number of hits, vocal range, other musical talents and abilities, fans, any category you want to name. Either you are not familiar with Karen Carpenter or you just want to be childish and immature and get all bent out of shape.

  • @Stevetheperformer »Like hell I don't know who Karen Carpenter is. She had a nice voice, but her voice is too schmaltzy. Anne is gravel and silk-perfect balance. It's people like you that troll on an Anne Murray song and say Karen is better. I beg to differ. Go listen to Karen and let me listen to Anne in peace. You are the one who picked a fight you insolent , inconsiderate troll.

  • @NOUNZYKRANZA Figures you would resolve to name calling. What is your problem? You prefer Anne Murray- Who I have allready stated I lke too- and I prefer Karen Carpenter. You don't even know me. How ignorant of you to call me a troll. It's easy to be brave on Youtube where everyone's a tough guy. I'm not trying to argue with you- what is the point? We are going to resort to personal insults because we have different tastes in music? Nothing more needs to be said.

  • @Stevetheperformer thank Gawd they broke the mold after Karen. Muzak and schmaltz crap. ANNE IS THE BEST. You may resume your trolling.

  • @Stevetheperformer second to no one. get over it steve.

  • @JimmyLeeDean I concur!

  • Might not be my generation of music....but so beautiful.

  • 52 people prefer frigid winters.

  • lmaooo she was shopping in my store today

  • I LOVE YA ANNE!

  • THIS WAS ON A K-TEL ALBUM I GOT MY PARENTS TO BUY ME IN THE EARLY 70S. I LOVED THE SONG. I THINK MY TASTES HAVE CHANGED A LITTLE, BUT IT STILL BRINGS BACK MEMORIES

  • A beautiful song. One of Canada's finest. Ann Murray certainly lead the way for female country / rock artists in Canada. She was picked by Toronto music reviewer Valerie McDermott as one of the Top Ten Canadian Female performers of all time. She will always be Canada's sweetheart.

  • Such a beautiful song by the talented Anne Murray. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • @paulaagraham Madam: I gather - from comments you have made on another 'You Tube' site - that you r one of those right-wing, Christian fundamentalists that believes evolution to be a myth. That explains a lot.

I would imagine u also believe that all Muslims, all Buddhists, all Hindus, all Sikhs, all Pagans and even all Jewish people are destined to roast in Hell-fire throughout all eternity, after their lives on Earth have come to an end. A remarkably caring and humane belief system !

  • Canadian Bacon Brought Up Here. The song was played during the credits.

  • the third verse of this song is missing by gene maclellan who was the original auther and singer of this great song

  • I love this song!

  • I played this one on my first country music radio show.

  • Look up Anne Murray and her Bio, what she has received from

Country Music. No offense to Patsy Cline A great singer in County Music BUT

HOLY SHIT alot of great singers who sang Country Music. Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Pam Tillis, Juice Newton, the list goes on and on.

  • used to play this on a 45 in my room, was only in grade school back then but I loved it then and I love it now.

  • @siledre Yes, me too! Played it over and over! I was either in eight grade or a freshman in high school. Many years later she handed me a yellow rose from the stage of the Holiday Star Theater at the close of a concert. What a thrill!

  • This is one of the most fantastic songs of all time.

  • Simply A great song and great singer!

  • What A beautiful gift Canada gave to country music. pure and gifted voice

  • @rintintin1960,

Was this song really considered Country Music??? Holy shit!

99.9% of what I've known as Country Music is stupid, twangy voiced, moron level lyrics sung by trailer trash losers for trailer trash losers.

The ONLY exceptions would be Patsy Cline. She's the only singer who I knew was considered "country" but truly had talent and sang intelligent, good songs. But I never knew Anne Murray was considered "Country". She's a great singer.

  • She makes singing look effortless.

  • @beerbellygdog you are not alone!

  • Contrary to what you may think, I am not "anti" young people/teenagers. Yes, I did say (perhaps somewhat cynically): "I have to say, Paula, that in my experience, most young people - i.e. teenagers - are pretty self-centred, shallow and uncaring". However, i ALSO said that most ADULTS have these negative character traits, too. I suppose it is true to say that I am no great fan of humanity. Although i do not believe in original sin, I have very little faith in human nature.

  • Quite frankly, ma'am, u strike me as a somewhat arrogant and self-righteous person, who has to have the last word, as it were, in an argument.

I notice that u haven't responded to a point I made in my most recent message to u. The point being that u should NOT confuse sensitivity with self-centredness. They are 2 entirely separate traits. There r plenty of sensitive people around who are selfless and caring in their dealings with others. Being sensitive is NOT some sort of character defect.

  • No offence, but it seems to me that u consider yourself to be some kind of expert on the psychological and social development of teenagers, and on their propensity to be "self-centred" and "shallow". If I may say so, it is a sweeping generalisation to label ALL young people - between the ages of 12 and 20 - in these negative terms. It is also a little patronising, I feel. Moreover, I wish to make the point that there are plenty of ADULTS around who are extremely self-centred and shallow.

  • @TheEctomorph If you are talking to me, I think you need to go back and re-read our statements. YOu are the one who said that teens were self centered and shallow. "I have to say, Paula, that in my experience, most young people - i.e. teenagers - are pretty self-centred, shallow and uncaring" I said they aren't any different than we were.

I have worked in a teen residential program for a decade. I dare say I am an expert on teen angst (however it's spelled). I also have seen them outgrow it

  • @paulaegraham Please do not message me again on this (or any other) 'You Tube' forum; your strong views - which I find harsh and unpalatable, if not abhorrent - are of no interest to me whatsoever. You have your own way of looking at things, and I have my (totally different) way of looking at things. I just thank the Lord that, when I was an adolescent, I did not have to come into contact with youth workers/"cousellors" as patronising as you. Have a nice day.

  • @TheEctomorph Why do you keep messaging me when you asked for the conversation to end?!?!?!

  • @paulaegraham For your information, childhood is that time when your parents take care of you. Adulthood is that time that you take care of yourself. Adolescence is a creation of Madison Ave.

So in our society we take people who are ready to care for themselves and force them into the role of children. Which is why childhood can be said to extend into the 30s.

  • @paulaegraham Madam: I refer to your recent statement (and I quote your exact words, verbatim): "Adolescence is a creation of Madison Ave." So ...... there is no such thing as adolescence, then? It doesn't exist, right? If that theory is correct, then it means that young people metamorphose from children into adults OVERNIGHT (quite literally).

I am not trying to be nasty or unkind (honestly), but it seems to me that you see things in black and white.

  • @paulaegraham Good question !

  • It sounds a good as ever! Go Anne!

  • @JackDRipperful And this is cyber bullying.

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • elvis presley is better singing this song peace x

  • @LimerickElvis You are incorrect there. Elvis was a huge Anne Murray fan and loved her rendition of this great classic. Not even the King can beat Anne on this one. Sorry Limerick.

  • @LimerickElvis Never

  • played this at my mothers funeral. She was a huge Anne Murray fan.

  • awesimes song

  • to the moronic idiot homophobs on here???SHUT THE HELL UP. SELF RIGHTUEOS ASSHOLES.GET A FRIGGEN LIFE,

  • @jengraywolf this is when music was music and not the crap and the rap crap of today! there is NO music today that even is worth mentioning! its ALL garbage. that is why all teens nowdays are listening to the greatest decade of all time. the 70's. also, check out grand funk railroad on you tube " inside looking out" and see what real music and rock and roll is all about. get a job and a life all u punks!!!

  • @HDPUMPINGIRON every generation is entiteled to it's own style as music is an expression of feelings. How much I love Ann Murray and other music from the past, I am not granted the right to talk down on modern artists ( or anyone else for that matter ). Who are you? Joda?

  • lol! I remember back, yes 1970 and or 71' in the day mom driving our 68' Bonneville, I would sit in the back seat of course and when she had this cranked on the radio... I was 2 maybe 3 yrs old, and I would just start CRYING! lol! As though someone took my candy away! My mom would stop the car: "Whats the matter!?" She had no idea that song made me CRY. Now "Joy To The World" was also popular, and I loved Roy Orbison's - "Sweet Dreams Baby" As a 2 year old, enjoyed that alot better. :-)

  • i love it

  • im 14 and I love this old country. Also from Nova Scotia Anne aha

  • she looks like Julie Andrews in this clip, GREAT SONG! EAT YOUR HEART OUT LADY GA GA THIS IS REAL MUSIC!

  • Geezzz I was 10 when this was done by the great Anne Murray and still remember it...what a simple but wonderful song....

  • This was my fiancé's Grandads favourite song.. We played it at his funeral last week. :)

  • I wish Anne Murray would spread her tiny wings and fly away.

Can't stand her sappy, syrupy music.

  • @cheeriosinabow this is from 35 years ago. why are you harping on this? She has a nice voice. Get a life. Go listen to gaga.

  • @000MrAnderson

Are you that immature that you can't listen to someone else's opinion and on top of that, you have to be insulting? Time for you to grow up, and stop distorting facts!

  • @000MrAnderson

... actually it is 41 years ago. This song was out 1970 and it is now 2011. Hence, 41 years ago, and not 35 years ago. You're welcome.

  • @cheeriosinabowl who pissed in your Cheerios? Anne Murray is a legendary vocalist. You obviously don't have respect for great music or great artists.

  • @NOUNZYKRANZA

I have my own opinion. You obviously have no respect for other's opinions. That should come with maturity for you one day, possibly. You have your opinion of Anne Murray and that's fine by me. Bye!

  • @cheeriosinabowl That's totally fine. I prefer Rice Krispes anyway. No hard feelings.

  • @cheeriosinabowl If you don't like Ms Murray's music, that's fair enough. Each to their own and all that. But why bother listening to her songs on You Tube if that kind of music is not to your taste?

  • @TheEctomorph

... I am allowed to comment, am I not ?

  • @cheeriosinabowl Yes, of course. I did not intend to cause you any offence or annoyance by my comment yesterday; I was merely making what I considered to be a reasonable point.

  • @TheEctomorph

    well okay, that's fine. Cheers.

  • what happened to music

  • I'm such a geek, I love this song. Another great singer from Nova Scotia along with Hank Snow.

  • she touches my heart

  • I wish I had her as my mom

  • that's the best video we can get from 1970??? LOL

  • @GRRAPTOR 1970 wasn't that long ago. (Although it probably SEEMS that way to you!) I would guess that you come from a younger generation than myself (I am 46 yrs of age).

A couple of weeks back, I saw some video footage [on 'You Tube'] of Edison Lighthouse performing their classic single "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" on Top Of The Pops. The footage I am referring to was recorded on 4th February 1970 - and is of a WAY higher quality (visually) than the footage of Anne Murray.

  • @TheEctomorph

    And your point is ?

  • @1973nitram That not all video footage from the year of 1970 is of poor visual quality.

  • @1973nitram The point that i was trying to make was a very trivial one, tbh. Sorry.

  • Always loved this song. Had the album she recorded it on. Thanks for posting it. What a beautiful voice. Not an easy song to sing.m She does it effortlessly.

  • Jesus, what happened to our country?

  • Talent without effort

  • I have always marveled how Anne Murray could just open her mouth and the words would come out so smooth and beautiful. Talent from within the heart will always be noticed and remembered. She would be a great person to sit around and have a sing along with. She would even make me sound good. Love the song and the post!

  • @hotstuffandicecream Could not have said it better.... Anne is one of the Great's...

  • She was a sweet little hottie!

  • I love you!!!!!!

  • A partner dance classic in Europe in the seventies ...

  • I first heard this song in High School. tI was one of the first 45's I ever bought.

  • Great blast from the past!

  • this is WMD

  • If you look @ my ipod, Metallica, motorhead, megadeth and...........murray! I love her music and this song especialy. Does it make me less metal? Who cares! Great tune!

  • Best song ever by best vocalist ever

  • She's a mix of Mary Poppins and Jane Hathaway....

  • I met Anne Murry when I was a teen. She was wasted out of her mind, it was funny

  • She sings right into your heart and her voice stays to chear up all your sad moments.

Thanks Anna for this gentle love song.

  • ...for the thing that I want most in life is the thing that I can't win.

  • @73MarkIV

Quality lyrics, eh Mark?! Sad, too (and when I say sad, i mean 'poignant' - not 'pathetic').

  • What voice!

  • The first song that I fell in love with! I was 10 years old. 30 years later it still lights my fire.

  • haha thats my cousins aunt

  • Love her voice. She makes it look so easy. Absolutely magnificent! When singing was just about singing and not about sex, drugs, etc. It's clear if you can't appreciate this kind of music (speaking of the 46 dislikes) you must be from todays generation. It's a shame the music that is thrown out at our kids today. So much filth.

  • @anitabreakone even though i am from todays generation, i LOVE this kind of music. I absolutely hate todays music! Long Live Anne Murray!!!

  • @anitabreakone I bet u r a Godly Saint!

  • @anitabreakone yeah i hate my gen

  • @anitabreakone

I don't understand this hostility to young people.

Kids have what their adults give them. So if they are obsessed with sex, drugs and violence it is because adults got rich on the shock factor and their parents didn't control their access.

  • @paulaegraham No hostility to young people, but to the people, any age, who make it so easy and addictive for young people to want to listen to todays music. It is full of sex, filth, and drugs. Not all but much of it. Kids need to take some responsibility themselves. It gets a little old having the blame placed on parents for everything. We all know parents can't control everything and the more they try, generally the more rebellious the kid becomes.

  • @anitabreakone True, but basic values are instilled in the home. If from an infant you teach your kids respect for themselves and others, they won't be drawn to sex, drugs, and rock & roll. However, most parents plant their kids in front of the TV and lament that they don't have good values. Not being taught discernment, the kids will naturally be drawn to the thing that is most attention grabbing.

  • @anitabreakone Well said, Anita.

  • @paulaegraham I refer to your comment: "I don't understand this hostility to young people".

I have to say, Paula, that in my experience, most young people - i.e. teenagers - are pretty self-centred, shallow and uncaring. In other words, they are not particularly pleasant or compassionate people. But, then again, most ADULTS are not particularly pleasant or compassionate people either.

Maybe I am becoming overly cynical and world-weary in my middle-age (I am 46 yrs of age now).

  • @TheEctomorph Teen-agers are supposed to be self-centered/shallow. So were we. Don't you remember how the whole world use to revolve on you and every small drama was a major event: When you were devestated by something someone said in the luch line.

Caring (and uncaring) are taught. If kids are looking at someone in pain and laughing they have been systematically desensitized, by media and lack of caring at home. Kids who visit Grandma in the nursing home have also been taught at home.

  • @paulaegraham Thank you for your comments, which I read with interest.

With regard to your statement: "Teen-agers are supposed to be self-centered/shallow", I am not sure that I know what you mean by that. Do you mean that young people are MEANT to be self-centered/shallow - and that, if they do not behave in this manner, they are somehow letting adults down?

As for your comment that "Caring (and uncaring) are taught", I agree ...... up to a point, at arny rate.

  • @TheEctomorph It is just part of human nature that we start out completely self absorbed (the infant who doesn't care about his mother's sleep if he is uncomfortable). With experience and maturity, we become more concerned and involved with others. The frontal lobes (center of empathy, higher thought, and conscience) does not develop until 30.

In our culture, kids are stunted. Childhood doesn't end until college graduation.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheEctomorph Sorry I didn't mean it like that.

Surely you remember 15? That girl would smile (or not smile) at you, and you would walk on air (or hate yourself and everyone else). You would overhear someone saying something unkind and hate them to the depth of your soul. If 2 people were giggling at lunch you would wonder if they were talking about you. All of your emotions were so strong you thought you could change the weather with them. Don't you remember being the center of the univ?

  • @paulaegraham Sure, I can remember being a 15-year-old youth (back in 1980). Whenever an attractive 'bird' smiled (however faintly) at me in those days, I would walk on air, so to speak. And, of course, whenever I said "hello" to a girl I fancied - and she cut me dead, as it were - it was a crushing blow to my self-esteem/confidence (and I would feel full of self-loathing - and hatred for everyone else).

I must admit, however, that I am not quite sure what POINT you are trying to make.

  • @TheEctomorph The POINT I am making is that all of that is self-centeredness. Really all of your classmates were worried about what you thought of them and didn't even know they were rocking your world.

  • @paulaegraham Madam: You should not confuse sensitivity and emotionality with self-centredness. There are plenty of sensitive people around who are considerate, unselfish and caring in their dealings with others. Sensitivity is NOT some sort of character defect/flaw (although some harsh, INsensitive people may perceive it as such). Nor is it a silly, ephemeral "phase" which children and young people go through, and subsequently "grow out of".

    Have a nice day.

Have a nice day, Ms Graham.

  • @TheEctomorph The POINT I am making is that all of that is self-centeredness. Really all of your classmates were worried about what you thought of them and didn't even know they were rocking your world. Your mother maybe even told you not to brood because you weren't that important (I have a German mother, maybe the English are kinder?) Now we are middle aged we see it in kids and see how silly it is, but we were there too.

  • @paulaegraham Yes, I can certainly recall overhearing young lads (and, on occasion, girls) - saying negative and cutting things about me behind my back, when I was a teenage kid growing up in East Anglia, England, in the late 1970's and early 80's. And yes, I would certainly feel a degree of hatred for the young people in question (at least for a time). Teenagers (of both genders) can b unkind 2 those less fortunate; that is something which remains indelibly etched on my mind, from my youth.

  • @paulaegraham I refer to your comment: "You would overhear someone saying something unkind and hate them to your depth of your soul."

Well, it may come as something of a surprise to you, hun, but i STILL tend to get very p****d off and upset when I hear people making negative and cutting remarks about me behind my back - and I am NOT a "self-centred" and "shallow" teenager; I am a grown man of 46 who is well into middle-age. You should NOT confuse being sensitive with being self-centred.

  • @TheEctomorph Being oversensitive to small unkindnesses and thinking you are the center of the universe is not sensitivity. It is selfishness.
