L'un des films les plus émouvants de Pasolini... et donc de l'histoire du cinéma. Il y a là des choses essentielles liées à une musique, une image et aussi, il est vrai, l'extraordinaire présence d'Anna Magnani.
This movie and music are haunting, but incredibly moving and beautifully done. I just recently seen it on TCM which was shown for the first time. Anna Magnani is magnificent and a classic.
Scene finali di un intenso film osteggiato, criticato, vilipeso. Grande Pasolini ed una Magnani, ad un secolo dalla nascita, che rimarrà per sempre nella storia del cinema.
Can anyone tell me the name of the piece of music heard each time the character Carmine (Franco Citti) appears in this film? I believe it's by Vivaldi.
But what is the piece playing in this clip? Is this Boccherini or vivaldi? Do you know? If you do, please tell me, coz I've been trying to find this version for so long
Yes. Actually I meant the piece in this clip. It is on the cd Vivaldi Concertos for Lute & Mandolin Il Giardino Armonico track number 5, Concerto in D minor RV 540 - Largo.
The piece of music you are looking for is Vivaldi of course (all the movie is with his music) and is "largo in Mi minore dal Concerto in Do maggiore per flautino, archi e basso continuo RV 443"
Explain the ending? It has many possibilities (like life) She stares at Rome- new Rome. Not of the Popes or Emperors. Like her. Her name is Mamma Roma. In the middle of this new Rome is a new church building. Where does she fit in? How did her son die? Where was the church? How could all this happen? What now?
I'm not sure if it is the deft music of Vivaldi or the direction or Magnani se stesso, but this ending always leaves me greatly moved.
I admire and adore Pasolini's films the way iin which the interesting faces and expressions of the actors who were mostly amateurs add reality to story. This expression brings to light the cruelty of the class structure and the plight of the poor and underpriviledged communities represented in this film.
Que maravilla. Sencillamente genial. No se que puede decir, solo silencio parea escuchar y tranquilidad para ver esta maravilla. Gracias Mitenka. Gracias Dios-Pasolini
I have not seen this film but I have heard of it and I remember Anna Magnani from Rome Citta Aperta. She is a wonderful actress and thank you for posting this!

uno dei finali più tristi della storia del cinema. Pietra miliare del cinema italiano. Grazie Anna e Paolo!

Antonio Vivaldi Largo Concerto C-Major, I believe. In any case I know for sure it's on the cd "Vivaldi Giardino Armonica for lute and mandolin".

Yes, that's the piece, of course. I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to finally know. Thank you so much!

the ending is a masterpiece. It has much to do with the camera movement as much as with her performance
