hey i have a question. im 17 years old and my mri scan said i had a cyst in my fuckin brain and honestly im scared yo. wtf do i do. like should i do what you did and get it removed. like that shit looks horrible
@Jay1203461003 Listen to what you doctor is saying. If that doesn't make sense to you get second or third opinion. I'm sure once you get more info about your situation that you will feel a lot less stressed. Hang in there.
@MrPolskadupa No, but if the headaches are frequent, painful, over a long period, and don't respond to medicine it's probably a good idea to see a doctor.
@lindavz8 Hey Linda, It's all in the blog that's linked in the description. No damage, etc. Lost my sense of smell for a few days and that was it. Doing great. Thanks for your note.
@MFRoosy16 Yeah, they also use a coral-based cement that I'm told fills in the bone gap and eventually is almost undetectable. Not that anyone should be looking at my bare skull again.
@tracysigler i was diagnosed with whjat they said was a dermoid in betwen the halves of my bain they aid its an anomloy they see every so often,,imnow freaking out that something could happen its was then (would know if they grow )4mm back then 10 years ago, what are these things,,anyhelp would be apreciated.: )
@lynnej1970 Hey Lynne, I'm not sure I understand your question. Yes, I do believe cysts grow, but slowly. Dermoid cysts are just skin and related cells in the wrong place. I suppose the risk really depends on where it is. Only your doctor can tell you that though.
@tracysigler oh he said nothing to worry about but like i decied tojust look waht itmeant "he called it an anomoly that he sees in ppl eery now and then, but on the report it said dermoid,4mm.and i never thought tolook it up and then i panicked when i seen they grew, well i hope he was right, shouldnt they get checked?like its been 10 years since i had a scan.and was found by accident.anyway thanks for taking your time out to reply : )
@199291931 Not weird so much as being exhausted. Fortunately I did not have relearn anything. The whole story, with pics, is at my blog. See the link on my profile page.
Wow. How cool you got to have a video of it. I've never had surgery but if I did I would want a video too. And to keep whatever they take. I'm morbid, lol.
I had a brain surgery for one of my tumors senior year of high school- about 3 years ago- and always sort of wished I could have seen the process. This is amazing to me. Hope you're doing well.
Wow, amazing video. I have one question: did it freak you out a bit when you watched the video and saw how bad the person's hands were shaking that were holding the "tweezer" like instrument? Man, they had too much coffee that morning. I am so happy that you are doing well. Scary to have something wrong with your brain. Thanks for sharing the vid with us.
WOW, so weird!! I had the EXACT same thing! My surgery was back in 1991 and it was on the left side of the skull. It was about the size and shape of a hotdog. You are the first person I've come across that's had this too! The neurosurgeon told me that I had probably had it since birth and it had just been growing since then. I actually never had any symptoms from it. Mine was found by accident when I had a head xray because of a neck injury...... WEIRD!!!
@tracysigler Yeah, I haven't had any problems. Although, with my dermoid, it had been secreting something that had actually eaten a hole thru the skull bone, so I have a plate there now. I take it that this wasn't the case with you??
Odd trivia!.... the neurosurgeon said that the plate is made of a similar substance to kevlar, so if anyone ever tries to shoot me I just need to duck real fast and make sure it hits the 4 inch plate..... what a wise guy huh?! ;-)
@Masternayan117 See my blog for details. I had a shunt for a few days after the surgery to help with that. Part of this surgery was to remove a colloid cyst which itself presents a risk of hydroencephalitis. There is also a video here that shows the endoscope working on that. Thanks for your question.
Hey there i had surgery for the same thing except my dermid cyst was on the skull in side my head ofcourse, it was on my right side of the head and they had to make a insition like a horse shoe from the top of the ear to the end of the ear, it took me a year or two to recover. I still have 3 arachnoid cysts in my head two in my brain and one on the base of my head. Thank god they aren't too big and right know they don't want to remove them. Just though I would share my story thanks for listening
@fuge633 Thanks for sharing that. I think the horseshoe incision is more common. Mine is called a "bicoronal" and it goes from ear to ear over the top of my head. Maybe your cysts will go away altogether. Good luck.
Hey amartin, Check out the blog link in the description box on this page. More details than you'll ever want to know. ;) The biggest surprise afterward was the tremendous fatigue. I stay fit and didn't think this type of operation would make me so worn out, for weeks, maybe months.
truly amazing, even as a adolecent, i am fasinated by medical operations and information, i hope one day i can become a doctor, surgeon, or bioengineer
really interesting seeing it, my step mother has a cyst on the brain that keeps re-growing after 2 surgeries in a month, she lost most of her sight but hopefully it'll come back, the cyst is in a fragile area that'd cost her a large brain area if they get it all , they are trying to treat it with medication now but its good to see how you came through it , not sure what cyst she has but apparently its hair and teeth and things
This proves that I can never be a surgeon because as I was watching him/her gently poke pieces out I was itching to take a spoon and just scrape out the chunks =O
Eventually. The other cyst, colloid, was more immediately dangerous. It could block fluid, cause swelling, and sudden death if it had moved in the right way, or grew.
Sorry, I thought I had replied to this already. No damage as far as I can tell, but ask my wife for a second opinion. ;) This cyst wasn't an immediate concern. The smaller cyst, colloid in the third ventricle, was causing serious headaches and there was a risk that it could block the flow of fluid, causing swelling in the brain and even death.

Hey tracy! I have some questions.
When they removed your forehead skull what did they do to replace it? Did they put the skull back on?
Also It looks like after they removed the cyst a portion of your brain was missing. Was it?
Also was the surgery expensive?
Thanks for posting this video!
Totalwarfan1 1 year ago
@Totalwarfan1 Hey, check out my blog for lots of details. See the channel page for the link. Yes, they put it back with some tabs and screws.
The cyst just pushed the brain out of the way. Once it's gone the brain slowly goes back to where it should be.
Ha. Yeah, I think it was pretty expensive. Can't remember for sure but I think it was billed in the six figure range.
tracysigler 1 year ago
@tracysigler once they screw it back on the skull just regrows together hard as ever again right?
