How about this? 60 Days in the SHU (so he can't get a hold of ANY drugs, not even cafeinne or nicotine) followed by 120 days in a residential treatment center with daily drug tests and group therapy sessions. One bad urinalysis and off to Prison for 3 years. My idea might seem "light" but it might save a man's life AND save the tax payers thousands to imprison a person who's problem is addiction. If you got a better idea, let's hear it...
How about legalizing drugs? The two most extremely addictive and harmful drugs (Ethanol and nicotine) are already legal so wouldn't it be a good idea to decriminalize less harmful substances like cannabis, cocaine and heroin? These can actually be medically useful as pain killers or anti-nausea medications as an adjunct to chemotherapy. Tell me what is the use of a cigarette except for killing thousands of people everyday? Population control? Don't get me started on ethanol….
